JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL EAGLE NEWS
APRIL 2020
Counseling Department Memo
Week of March 30
AP Testing Info: Mr. Dinkel has sent information to AP students and parents regarding AP testing. According to the CollegeBoard, testing will continue although it will be in an online format with modified exam content. More info will be shared in the CollegeBoard’s update to schools on April 3.
Junior Conferencing: Because the majority of you will be unable to have a face-to-face junior conference with us, we still plan to provide you with step-by-step information and strategies to get started on your college/career journey. This week, we ask that you try to write a tentative post-secondary goal statement. Examples:
“I plan to attend a 2-year tech school for a degree in graphic design.” “I am interested in joining the Airforce and going to college after that.”
“I plan to go to a 4-year university to study something in the medical field.”
Public vs Private Colleges Wisconsin Technical Colleges
Navy Army
Marines Air Force
Once a tentative goal is reached, please view the Post-Secondary Flow Chart in Schoology for college options.
Update on Office Hours: Zoom will no longer be an option for direct communication with counselors; however, Google Voice is an option for a telephone call. Additionally, counselors will check email throughout the week for individual responses.

Seniors Admitted to Madison College for Fall 2020: Scholars of Promise will be extending their interest form deadline to April 17, 2020. If you have not submitted an in-terest form, you can do so here. You must have all Scholars of Promise application materials (Madison College appli-cation, Free Application for Federal Student Aid, high school transcripts, and ACT/Accuplacer scores) submitted by May 15, 2020. Madison College plans to work remotely with students who may qualify to make sure deadlines are met. Please let us know if you are struggling to get needed materials to Madison College.
If you would still like to apply to Madison College, you can do so here.
Individual/Family Needs: We understand that moving to a virtual learning environment is difficult and stressful for both students and fami-lies. Furthermore, we know that many families may be struggling with unemployment and/or other family hard-ships. Please reach out to your counselor if you or your family have any unmet needs with which we may be able to assist with. Examples: inconsistent internet access, lack of food/meals, lack of personal care/hygiene products. We are here to help.

Make Campus Tours a Part of Your Plan
Figure Out the Cost for College There are a lot of aspects students need to consider when determin-ing the actual cost of college – tuition and fees, scholarships, grants, loans, and much more. Each school will have a different way of de-fining cost, and that’s why some students struggle with finding out how much they’ll actually be paying. But with this interactive tool students will be able to calculate ex-penses and find the cost for each school they’re applying to. Then, through a simple side-by-side comparison, they can determine which college or university is the most affordable option. Use this tool as you weigh and compare your college options.

The UW HELP website has an Advanced Place-ment (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) search tool you and your students can use to see how their courses will transfer to a UW System campus. Select the campus and/or courses, click submit, and see the course equiv-alencies. It's as easy as that! Bookmark and share the AP/IB search tool!
START YOUR UW JOURNEY
UW Journey guides potential students on their venture to college. The goal is to inform pro-spective students and their families of the tre-mendous opportunities that exist at our UW campuses. Prospects can find the UW campus that best fits their individual needs, navigate the application process, and explore options to pay for college. UW Journey enables users to view and compare all campuses’ offerings, including both academic and campus life char-acteristics, to create the most informed choice about which campus to attend. Finally, UW Journey guides prospects through the entire college process, showing the steps to take, and enabling further direction in the form of re-minders, checklists, and calendar events.
