Hello Jefferson JAGS, We are excited for our upcoming start of the school year. While it will look a little different, we are looking forward to connecting with all of our students. Below is a short list of the things necessary for students and families to prepare for the first week of school. THINGS TO NOTE: Schedules - Parents and students will be able to view student schedules via Skyward starting at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 3rd. If you are new to Skyward, please click this LINK for instructions. School Supplies - Please do not worry about your student having all the required school supplies for the first few days of school. The only supplies they need for the first few days are a notebook or binder with paper in it and something to write with, pen or pencil. Teachers will let students know which supplies from the list they will need to bring as the year progresses. If you are unable to afford school supplies please contact the school counselor, Teri Peterson, at 360-596- 3204 or [email protected]. Masks - All students, staff, and visitors must wear properly fitting masks at all times except while eating. Masks must cover the mouth and nose. Students who refuse to wear their masks properly will be sent home. Distancing - Students will continue to sit 3 feet apart in classrooms and 6 feet apart at lunch. Movement around the building will be limited and supervised. Daily Attestations - We will no longer take student temperatures daily or ask for attestations. However, we will still have a COVID isolation room and continue to have a nurse on-site everyday. Chromebooks - Students are reminded to bring their fully charged Chromebooks to school each day. Chromebooks will be issued to new students through the district office technology department. Please contact them at 360-596-8530 or schedule a pick up time at this LINK Back to School 2021 Jag Chronicle Jefferson Middle School September, 2021 Back to School Event: *Virtual Back To School Event September 7th 3:00 PM (Pre-Recorded Event) Please click here to go to our website to view our Back To School Event beginning at 3:00 PM.

Attendance

Lockers

To meet social distancing requirements of 6 feet while eating, we must offer lunch in chairs only. Each student’s lunchtime will take place during their 4th period. Students will receive their lunch assignment on the first day of school. Students may go outside after they finish their lunch. We encourage all students to bring a raincoat to school in the event there is inclement weather.

Please call the office at 360-596-3200 or the attendance line at 360-596-3203 by 10:00 a.m. to notify the school if your child will be tardy or will not be in attendance. Messages can be left on the attendance line 24 hours a day. When leaving a message, please state the student’s full name and a brief description of the absence (illness, dental appointment, etc). The Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County will be returning to Jefferson Middle School. The Club offers programs and positive adult relationships for middle school aged youth in an environment that is safe and fun. The Club at Jefferson Middle School is similar but smaller in scale to the three other Clubs in Thurston County (Tumwater, Lacey and Rochester). The Club is staffed by Boys & Girls Club youth development professionals, and supplemented by the support of volunteers. Programs include: Power Hour (homework and tutoring), Club Tech (technology instruction and use), Triple Play (social and physical recreation), Torch Club (leadership development), and many more. All of the Boys & Girls Clubs programs are designed to be both fun and rewarding. The program operates during the school year, Monday through Friday serving youth in grades K-8. The Club will follow the school year calendar – closing on the days the school is closed. The Club is available to all eligible students for a minimal annual membership fee. Please contact the Boys & Girls Club for more information on pricing and times available at Jefferson Middle School. As a community leader in youth development, Boys and Girls Club believes in providing Olympia’s middle school students with a positive place to go after school. Their goal is to offer children and teens the guidance they need to stay on track in school, stay out of trouble and to set goals for a promising future. For more information, please contact the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County at (360) 556-3715 or go to www.bgctc.org.
