jeffrey's first day @ school

On the night before I went to my new school, I couldn’t sleep at all. I rolled around in my bed trying my very best to get to sleep. However , I was unsuccessful as I was too excited to go to my new secondary school. I spent the whole night th inking about what would happen the next day. Finally, it was 6.00a.m in the morning. The moment I opened my eyes, I felt this surge of energy as it dawned on me then that since I was going to a secondary school, I was no longer a child and should learn to be independent henceforth. With this newfound confidence, I announced to my mother that I would be going to school on my own but she insisted on bringing me to school. When I realized it was pointless arguing with her , I decided to let her have he r way . I hung my head low as I entered the MRT as I felt all eyes were on me but I ignored them. Out of habit, I examined my uniform to see if everything was in place when I found out to my horror that my zip was undone! Imagine my mortification and dismay then. Without drawing too much attention to myself, I immediately zipped my pants up. I took sidelong glances to check if anyone had witnessed my shame and was glad that I was alone in my suffering. When I reached school, I felt rather embarrassed because I was the only one whose mother had tagged along. After I sent her off, I took a good look at the surrounding and I found that the school was extremely beautiful. But all that surrounded me were unfamiliar faces, faces that I could not plce a name to. I felt all alone and was overcome by a sense of longing as that was when I began missing my primary school friends and teachers. I was lost and I didn’t know where to go next. Should I report to the hall, the parade square or the classrooms? If so, where were all these places? After studying the surrounding, I saw many students sitting at the parade square and so I followed their lead and located where my class was supposed to sit and sat there silently. After the pledge-taking exercise, we headed back to our classroom. The classroom I was assigned to appeared very conducive as it had two air- conditioners and the whiteboard was huge. When we had settled down, we were told to play some games but I kept quiet throughout the activity as I didn’t speak to anyone. Then, our facilitator instructed us to introduce ourselves to each other and it was a scary experience as I had to speak to a group of strangers. Finally we had recess and I discovered that the food sold at my new canteen was very delicious. After that, we headed back to our class and our form teacher told us the achievements of the school, her expectations and the programmes we would be having to orientate ourselves to the new school.

At exactly 1.30pm, the school released us. As I walked out of school,I reckoned that I love this school, its conducive environment, the activities

and the people. Although I have yet to make any new friend, I was confidentthat I will make some soon!
