Solid-State Chemical Sensors

• Metal-oxide semiconductor layer– Usually tin dioxide (SnO2)

• Apply heat – In air

• Surface oxygen increases (negatively charged)• Resistance increases

– In presence of deoxidizing gas• Surface oxygen decreases• Resistance decreases
