It will set the tone for what East Naples looks like far into the future. The Collier County Commissioners voted to do a very impor- tant Corridor Study and we’d like your input. With all the great investments in residential development taking place, we need to be sure the commercial development and re-development supports all the residents of East Naples and continues on the path to making our community the best place to live in Collier County. We reached out to our commissioner, Donna Fiala to see what her thoughts were, what prompted her to ask for the study before it’s too late. “I was talking to the people in Luigi’s restaurant and they said someone had already purchased the building next door to them to build a 3-story self-storage building, and they thought their building was also being looked at to purchase. All I could think of is that there is nothing in self-storage that encourage merchants to move to the area, nor encourage shoppers to come to the area, and we would again have a dead zone. How can the people in our part of the county enjoy life here if we don’t have locations for retail stores and restaurants to occupy. No one is drawn to a self-storage. “A main street in the community should be to encourage people to stay in the area to shop and eat rather than drive to another part of town. A main street is also am impulse shoppers paradise and should contain things like a Dairy Queen, a shoe store, a restaurant, a clothing shop, a children’s shop, etc. Self-storage belongs BEHIND those buildings, not in front of them. Does anyone ride by a self-storage area and think – “Oh, I think I’ll see if I have something in this car to store here?” Nick Casalanguida, Deputy County Manager and the head of the Corridor Study for the County’s Growth Manage- ment Division will speak at the ENCA luncheon on March 16 th at 11:30am at Hamilton Harbor Yacht Club (reserva- tions can be made by calling 434-1967). Donna Fiala Town Hall GatheringWater Conservation Efforts Very ImportantFollowing three months of dry conditions, including a record-

dry November, the South Florida Water Management District(SFWMD) is urging South Florida families to boost water conserva-tion efforts. A total of 1.49 inches of rain fell District-wide inJanuary, representing 76 percent of average, or 0.47 inches belowaverage for the month.

All South Florida residents and businesses are urged to followyear-round landscape irrigation rules (see chart for Collier County& Marco Island below).

“Extremely dry conditions set in early in the dry season andhave not let up,” said SFWMD Governing Board Chairman DanO’Keefe. “Water conservation is important all year but especiallynow to help sustain the regional water supply.” No additionalwater conservation rules are in place at this time.

Donna encourages everyoneinterested in what’s going on inprograms, events, and facilities toattend our town hall gathering, wherecitizens will hear directly from countystaff as they address what is happen-

need for more restaurants that people can actually sit down andenjoy a meal in, rather than just take-out. Texas Roadhouse isabout ready to make an appearance! They are planning onopening Monday, March 20th! The good thing is, it will still beduring season, so some will get to enjoy this new venue beforeleaving to go back up north. They have been hiring people, trainingthem, working with chefs and purveyors, and getting ready for thebig day. Let’s give them a royal welcome!

Carrabba’s & Outback have not only opened for lunch toaccommodate the needs of the area, they have even startedHOME DELIVERY. And the new Stock plaza on Collier Blvd. nowoffers Skillets for their famous breakfasts and lunches, 5 Guys, and Palumbos (NJ style pizza and entrees). And don’t forget 21Spices at the corner of US41 and Lakewood Blvd and Eurasia atthe corner of St. Andrews and US41.
