Jeppesen Launches New Version of FliteStar and FliteMap Jeppesen recently announced the latest release, version 9, of its leading flight planner and moving map applications. FliteStar and FliteMap 9 feature numerous product enhancements, including the ability to download and graphically display Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) NOTAMs. Other features include the display of cloud bases in the profile view, wind aware routing, a new radio frequency report, improved terrain depiction, more robust fuel-planning capabilities, and several aircraft modeling enhancements. FliteStar/FliteMap 9 allows users to download TFR NOTAMs with the touch of a button. The applications then graphically depict TFRs on the electronic map display, providing a clear picture of their dimensions, locations, and their affect on the planned route of flight. Users are assured of the latest TFR information because FliteStar/FliteMap downloads the data packets directly from the source—the FAA. Cloud bases are now displayed in the profile view, giving users a comprehensive picture of cloud base heights over the entire route of flight. The cloud base depiction is derived directly from Jeppesen’s or DUAT’s weather data and is especially useful for planning flights in visual flight conditions or for avoiding possible icing situations. Wind aware routing, a feature typically found only in high-end flight planners, is now available with FliteStar/FliteMap 9. This feature optimizes a flight for time, fuel, and distance, both vertically and horizontally, based on forecast winds aloft data. Wind aware routing adds another level of functionality and accuracy to the flight planning process. The radio frequency report gives users quick and easy access to communication and navigation frequencies for any planned route. And it can be customized to include varying radius search patterns around towers, airports, VORs, and other navaids. The terrain shading within FliteStar/FliteMap 9 (lower 48 states only) is now displayed at a nine-arc second resolution, which dramatically improves its definition and appearance. Previous versions of FliteStar/FliteMap relied on 30-arc second data only. This enhancement is especially useful to those using FliteMap as an in-flight moving map reference. With the improved fuel planning capabilities offered in the corporate version 9, operators can compute the minimum fuel load required to meet reserve requirements or select this feature to compute necessary fuel loads backwards from the destination. Building specific aircraft models is now made easier thanks to a new wizard that guides users through the data input process. This functionality is especially useful to those who fly unique types of aircraft that may not be included with the standard applications. FliteStar/FliteMap users who are subscribers to one of its update services receive program updates automatically along with their NavData updates. Users of earlier versions of these programs who do not subscribe to an update service can easily upgrade to version 9. Please contact Jeppesen customer service for assistance. FliteStar/FliteMap 9 allows users to download TFR NOTAMs with the touch ofa button. The applications then graphically depict TFRs on the electronic mapdisplay, providing a clear picture of their dimensions, locations, and theiraffect on the planned route of flight. Users are assured of the latest TFRinformation because FliteStar/FliteMap downloads the data packets directlyfrom the source—the FAA.

Cloud bases are now displayed in the profile view, giving users a comprehensivepicture of cloud base heights over the entire route of flight. The cloud basedepiction is derived directly from Jeppesen’s or DUAT’s weather data and isespecially useful for planning flights in visual flight conditions or for avoidingpossible icing situations.

Wind aware routing, a feature typically found only in high-end flight planners,is now available with FliteStar/FliteMap 9. This feature optimizes a flight fortime, fuel, and distance, both vertically and horizontally, based on forecastwinds aloft data. Wind aware routing adds another level of functionality andaccuracy to the flight planning process.

The radio frequency report gives users quick and easy access to communicationand navigation frequencies for any planned route. And it can be customizedto include varying radius search patterns around towers, airports, VORs, andother navaids.

The terrain shading within FliteStar/FliteMap 9 (lower 48 states only) is nowdisplayed at a nine-arc second resolution, which dramatically improves itsdefinition and appearance. Previous versions of FliteStar/FliteMap relied on30-arc second data only. This enhancement is especially useful to those usingFliteMap as an in-flight moving map reference.

With the improved fuel planning capabilities offered in the corporate version9, operators can compute the minimum fuel load required to meet reserverequirements or select this feature to compute necessary fuel loads backwardsfrom the destination.

Building specific aircraft models is now made easier thanks to a new wizardthat guides users through the data input process. This functionality isespecially useful to those who fly unique types of aircraft that may not beincluded with the standard applications.

Jeppesen Preferred Ground HandlerSpotlight: Athens Aviation Services –Athens, Greece

Olympic Games 2004 Athens AviationServices and the Jeppesen Global GroundHandling Team have been preparing for theAugust 2004 Olympic Games to be ready tohelp you plan for this world event.

Jeppesen has been working with AAS, whohave representatives at airports throughout Greece. OperationCenters have been set up by AAS at all alternate airports aswell as Athens International Airport (LGAV), which will utilizespace for the parking of GA aircraft.

From February 2004 onward, the Hellenic Civil AviationAuthority will be announcing which alternate airports aregoing to be used for the parking of GA aircraft, as the parkingspaces at Athens International Airport are going to be very lim-ited. Please contact Jeppesen for the current notifications anddecisions made on GA aircraft parking at Athens Internationaland other Greek airports for this period.

To cope with extra demands, twenty new staff members havebeen employed and fully trained to cover the workload expected.New luxurious vehicles for transfers, for both crew and VIPpassengers, have been put in place. AAS will have aircraftsecurity available as well as personal bodyguards on request. To facilitate expected catering demands, catering companiesbased at the airport have invested in extra equipment and staffand have put heightened security measures in place.

AAS have blocked booked hotel rooms all around the Athensarea. There is a high possibility that aircraft will have to berepositioned to alternate airports for parking overnight, whichmight not be within mainland Greece. Availability of hotelrooms for crew in all areas will be announced later this year.Advanced pre-booking is advised, so please contact JeppesenInternational Trip Planning with your requests.
