BIBLE TIMEWhat did Jesus ride into Jerusalem? A donkey! What did the people lay before the donkey? Their cloaks and palm leaves. When Jesus came into Jerusalem, he went into the Temple. The Temple was a special place that people came to worship God in Old Testament Bible times. The temple was a special place to worship God, and learn about Him. When Jesus walked inside, he saw a lot of noise and fuss. There were merchants all over the place selling people animals to purchase to be sacrificed at the temple. The people came from very long distances, so they would have to buy a dove, or a lamb to sacrifice when they got to the Temple, because it was too long of a trip for the animals. The people who sold these animals to the people charged way too much money, and cheated people. This made Jesus very angry. He did not like that there was cheating and lying going on in his Father’s House which was the Temple. Jesus made a whip and began to crack in in the air and flipped over all of the merchant’s tables, telling them to get out of his Father’s house! “You will not steal from these people!” Jesus shouted! The merchants ran off, and the sick people came to Jesus to be healed, and many came to Jesus to learn more about God and His love for us.

Jesus was very excited to be able to visit the Temple in Jerusalem and to be close to his Father. He got very angry when he saw that people were using his Father’s House to cheat and steal. Jesus always stood up for what was right.

BIBLE TIMEOne day, Jesus and his disciples were all sitting around the entrance of the temple in Jerusalem. They were watching all of the people come by and give their money to God at the Temple. There was a big metal box outside of the entrance, and they would come up and make big noisy bangs and rattles when they put their money in. The rich people would bring a lot of money, look around, and make sure that everyone around saw how much money they had to give. Everyone would look at the rich people and talk about how much money they were giving to the Temple. Most of the rich people, who did this, only did it so people would talk about them and how rich they were.

Jesus watched a very poor woman tip-toe up to the metal box. While she did this, Jesus whispered to his disciples to pay attention to the woman and her gift. She dropped in two small coins. Jesus said, “This woman has given more than any of the rich people!” The disciples were confused! They just saw the rich people drop in huge bags full of money, and the woman just gave two coins! Jesus explained, “The rich people gave just a small part of their riches, the woman gave everything she had to God.”

God loves a cheerful giver! We should always give God the very best we have. We too can be like the woman and give to God trusting that He will supply us with all we need. How can you give your all to God? (Explain ways other than money, the children can give)

BIBLE TIMEJesus and his disciples were having dinner at Simon the leper’s house. While they were eating, a woman named Mary came to the house carrying a large alabaster jar full of very expensive perfume. She came to Jesus and poured the perfume all over Jesus’ head! Why do you think she did this? In biblical times, this was called anointing. It was like a way to show respect and honor to someone. The disciples were angry with the woman! They said, “Why are you wasting that expensive perfume on Jesus? Do you know how much we could have sold that for to give to the poor?” Jesus said to the disciples, “Don’t make her feel bad, she has done such a beautiful thing for me. You will always have the poor with you, but I will not be with you for very long.” Why do you think Jesus said this? Jesus knew that soon, he would have to leave the disciples. Mary then stooped down at Jesus feet and began to wash them with her tears and her hair. The house was full of the sweet smell of the perfume. Mary knew that Jesus was very special. She wanted to show him love and kindness by giving him her expensive perfume. What can we do to show others how much we care about them? (Let the kids explain acts of kindness) We don’t really pour perfume on people’s heads anymore, or wash people’s feet like they did in Biblical times, but there are always things we can do to show our love to people. Jesus asks us all to love one another and take care of one another.

CRAFT CORNER

Have the children to color the coloring sheets as they arrive today.

Each child will take the soap and break it a part to place in their containers. Do not allow the children to take the containers home however, because they will use their soap to wash each other’s feet on Wednesday night. You can have your helper microwave the soap as you teach the lesson. This is a great activity to do outside of weather permits.

BIBLE TIMEJesus and his disciples were all together getting ready for their Passover meal. The Passover was a special holiday that the Jews celebrated to remember when God sent the plagues to Egypt but saved the Jews from them. Before they began to eat the meal, Jesus took a towel and wrapped it around his waist, filled up a water basin with water, and began to wash his disciple’s feet. One of his disciples, Peter felt embarrassed that Jesus was washing his feet. Peter said, “Lord! Why are YOU washing MY feet?” Jesus said, “You may not understand why I am doing this now, but you will later.” When he was finished, he asked them if they all understood why he washed their feet. Jesus explained that he did it as an example. He wanted them to serve others just like Jesus had done. He told them that he has always given them the example to put what others need about what we need, and they need to do the same. Jesus was the son of God. Sent from heaven to take on the sins of us all by serving us all. He had been getting his disciples ready to be the ones to tell of all the wonderful things Jesus had done to others. He wanted to make sure that the disciples understood they were to serve the people, and not boss them around. Jesus washed his disciple’s feet to show that they should all be servants to the people as they tell others about Jesus. How can we show Jesus’ love to others?

BIBLE TIMELast week, we talked about how Jesus and his disciples were all gathered together to eat a meal called the Passover. Do you remember why they did this? To remember how God protected them from the plagues in Egypt. Before the meal, what did Jesus do for all of his disciples? He washed their feet! Why did he was their feet? To show them that they all needed to learn how to be humble and serve others, just as he had served them. After he washed their feet, they all sat down for their meal.

Jesus knew that is was almost time for him to be captured, and he wanted to give the disciples a special commandment before he had to go. He took some bread from the table and said, “This bread represents my body, when you eat it, think of me.” He then passed it out to the disciples. He then took a cup of wine, which is like grape juice, and said, “This juice represents my blood that will be shed for all of you, when you drink it, think of me.” They then all drank the juice. What do you see your parents doing every Sunday morning when the plates of bread and juice are passed around? They all say a prayer, eat the bread, and drink the juice! Do you know why they do this? Because Jesus has asked all Christians to eat the bread and drink the juice to always remember his sacrifice. This is a very important part of our worship to God.Jesus wanted a way for people to sit with each other and take the time to remember him, so he asked people to share this special thing together. We call it the Lord’s Supper!

BIBLE TIMEOn Sunday, we talked about how after Jesus washed the disciples’ feet. They all sat down to eat the Passover meal together. As they were eating, Jesus wanted to make a way for everyone to take the time to remember the sacrifice he was about to make. Do you remember what he did next?

He took some bread from the table and said, “This bread represents my body, when you eat it, think of me.” He then passed it out to the disciples. He then took a cup of wine, which is like grape juice, and said, “This wine represents my blood that will be shed for all of you, when you drink it, think of me.” They then all drank the juice. What do you see your parents doing every Sunday morning when the plates of bread and juice are passed around? They all say a prayer, eat the bread, and drink the juice! Do you know why they do this? Because Jesus has asked all Christians to eat the bread and drink the juice to always remember his sacrifice. This is a very important part of our worship to God. Jesus wanted a way for people to sit with each other and take the time to remember him, so he asked people to share this special thing together. We call it the Lord’s Supper!

After Jesus died on the cross, when the first group of Christians, which we call a church, gathered, they would all enjoy the Lord’s Supper together and be thankful for what Jesus did for them. We are still following this example today!

BIBLE TIMEAfter Jesus and his disciples ate the Lord’s Supper, they went out to a garden to pray. While there, some Roman soldiers came and arrested Jesus. There were many people who did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God and wanted him to be put to death. Jesus went with the soldiers, knowing everything would be ok.

The disciples were very scared! They knew the soldiers would probably put Jesus on a cross, and they didn’t want it to happen to them too!

One of the disciples named Peter, snuck into town to see what was going to happen to Jesus. While there, a servant girl asked him if he was one of Jesus’ friends. Peter was scared and said, “No! I don’t know that man!” Did Peter know Jesus? Yes! He was one of his disciples! Later, more people saw Peter and asked him if he knew Jesus and again, Peter was scared and said, “No! I don’t know what you are talking about!” Peter did this three times. He told three lies about knowing Jesus. Is it ever ok to lie, even when we are scared something bad might happen if we tell the truth? Maybe you did something wrong, but don’t want to get in trouble so you lie. That is not the right thing to do. The lies Peter told made him very sad. He loved Jesus very much, andwas very sad that he had lied about knowing him. Peter went outside of the city and cried for lying. Peter learned that even though it is scary, we must always tell the truth.

SUPPLIES NEEDED• Peter Lying coloring sheet• Rooster template• Googly eyes• Construction paper• Glue

CLASS SCHEDULE1. Welcome/Books of the Bible2. Singing/Memory Verse3. Bible Lesson4. Craft Time5. Snack/Prayer

CRAFT CORNER

After the lesson, give each child the coloring page to color. Retell the story as they work and ask questions about lying. When they are finished, pass out the rooster template for the children to cut out and decorate. Help them glue the googly eyes and wing onto their roosters. When finished, glue the rooster onto the construction paper.

BIBLE TIMELast week, we talked about how the Roman soldiers took Jesus away while he was in the garden with his disciples. They brought him to a man named Pilot, and they had a trial. Pilot didn’t see anything wrong with what Jesus was doing, but was very scared of the large crowd of people who didn’t believe Jesus. Pilot asked the crowd what they wanted to do with Jesus and the said, “Crucify him!” This made a lot of people sad! Jesus never, ever sinned or did anything wrong! Pilot gave Jesus back to the soldiers, and they took him to be placed on the cross. The drove nails in his hands and in his feet, and hung him high up in the air on the cross. Many people who did not believe he was the Son of God were glad to see him there. Jesus’ friends, and family, and those who did believe in him were very sad. Jesus was sad too, but he knew that it all would be ok. Why did Jesus know it would all be ok? Jesus knew that he would come back to life again!

It was a terrible, terrible thing that happened to Jesus. He never did anything wrong, but was put on a cross for something he didn’t do. Have we ever done wrong? Yes! We all have, and Jesus allowed himself to die on the cross because of the wrong things we have all done. God and Jesus want us to be in heaven with them someday, so God sent Jesus to die for us so we could be there with them! I am so thankful that Jesus chose to do this for me and you and our friends, family, everybody! We can be thankful every day for Jesus!

BIBLE TIMELast week, we talked about how Jesus was hung on the cross for the sins of all people. Do you remember why he allowed himself to die for you and for me? So we can be children of God! So we could one day be in heaven, the most amazing place, with God and Jesus one day! I am so thankful for the promise of heaven!

After Jesus died, his friends took him to a large tomb to be buried. They wrapped him up, and poured spices on him, then rolled a really, really big stone over the entrance. Three days later, Mary came to bring more spices and perfumes to Jesus’ grave. But guess what? She got to the tomb and found that it was EMPTY! When she looked inside, she saw two angels! They asked, “Why are you crying?” She said, “Someone took away Jesus’ body!” She was very sad. Mary turned around and saw a man standing behind her. She said the man, “They took Jesus away! Please tell me where to find him?” The man said, “Mary.” She looks up! Could it be? The voice! It sounded just like Jesus’ voice! To her surprise, it WAS Jesus! Alive! Jesus was alive! She was so thankful, and in awe of the miracle that Jesus had been dead for three days but then rose again! Jesus told Mary to go tell the disciples that he was alive, and was ready to see them. Jesus rose from the dead! He died for our sins, and then rose again to show us all that he had won the battle against sin!

All of a sudden, the disciples looked up, and there was Jesus! Right there, in the room with them. He just appeared! Jesus said to them all, “Peace be with you.” Do you know why Jesus said this? The disciples were all very scared! They though Jesus was a ghost! Jesus said, “Why are you afraid? Why don’t you believe it is really me? Reach out and touch my hand, you will see then see that I am real.” Jesus showed them his hands, they still had the marks from the nails. The disciples were so happy to see Jesus! Jesus explained to them that he had to die so that he could win the battle against sin. His death made it possible for all of us to be in heaven with God one day. Jesus rose again to make sure we would all know how much God loves us. Jesus also rose again to show us how powerful God is! Who all can remember some of the miracles Jesus performed with God’s power? (Walking on water, feeding the 5,000, raising Lazarus, etc.) Let the children discuss. Is God powerful? Yes, He is! BIBLE TIMELast week, we talked about how Jesus came and showed himself to the disciples. He stayed with them and traveled around with them for several days so everyone could see that Jesus was alive! He continued to tell all the people how much God loved them, and taught them God’s word. Jesus and his disciples went up to a mountain called Mt Olivet. While up there, Jesus told his disciples to go out to the entire world and tell everyone about God, and about how Jesus died and rose from the dead to save everyone from their sins. After he asked this, a cloud appeared, and Jesus was taken up into it and floated back up into heaven! The disciples were kind of scared! They just got Jesus back! Before Jesus left, he told the disciples that a special helper called the Holy Spirit would be sent to them soon so they needed to be ready.

The disciples just stood there, looking up into heaven thinking maybe Jesus would come back down. Then, two men appeared before them in bright, white robes and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into heaven? BIBLE TIMEWhat did we talk about last week? Do you remember how Jesus went back up into heaven? He went back on a cloud! Jesus and his disciples were on the Mt Olive and Jesus had just given them some very important jobs. He asked them to tell the whole world about God’s love and how Jesus died and was raised from the dead for everyone’s sins!

After this, the disciples went back into Jerusalem and stayed in a house. They were all gathered in the upper room of the house, kind of like a house that has two stories in it.

All of a sudden, a strong wind came blowing in the room and something that looked like little fires rested on the top of the disciples heads! What? Fire! I wonder if they were scared! The fire was the special helper called the Holy Spirit that came to help the disciples teach about Jesus. Do you remember Jesus promising the disciples that he would send a special helper for them? Because of the Holy Spirit, the disciples were able to speak in different languages, and perform miracles like Jesus! Many people were able to understand all that the disciples were telling them, and believed in Jesus because of the miracles they saw. They were very thankful that Jesus gave them this gift to tell others about him.
