ELECTRONIC VS PAPER
Professor Sheila Bolduc-SimpsonCRN 10844
Issue
Amount of paper printed in general How much paper FGCU wastes How much money FGCU wastes on paper FGCU representing the sustainability rep
while using a lot of paper.
Did you know? 40% of wood goes to making paper? 10 mins of reading on computer runs
more carbon than print paper? Japans use of paper declined since 2008 Apple use 10.2 million tons of
Greenhouse gas emissions. Each paragraph you read, 20 football
fields long of trees are cutdown. Because of technology, there will be a
gap in history that are overseen.
Although....
there are many good benefits to having paper to use, it might possibly be a good idea to diminish the amount of paper is used and start either recycling paper or going electronic especially for the time period we are in today.
Audience
Students, staff, faculty, and administration of Florida Gulf Coast University
Potential students coming to FGCU, Visitors who come to the FGCU campus FGCU Board of Trustees, FGCU Board of Governors,
Purpose
Inform everyone about how much damage paper does.
Show the cost of paper Revolutionize from paper Eliminate the use of paper to help
sustainability.
Assumption
People know that FGCU is a sustainable campus.
Give the option that paper could be just as vitrual.
Some may think paper is even better than virtual.
Electric
POSITIVE NEGATIVE More efficient when
turning things in. More urbanized
because of schools. Faster to turn things
in. Easier to research
and turn things in.
Requires more technology.
Costy for the technology.
Has to be charged. Sometimes problems
with tools.
Paper
POSITIVE NEGATIVE Cheaper for
materials. Can write or use at
anytime. More effective for
learning(opinion) Becoming more rare
to do. Dependable for any
occasion
Not as fast as electronic.
Sometimes run out of paper
Don’t always have a untesil to use.
Hurts the earth if people don’t recycle.
Destroys forests for paper.
Paper’s P.O.V
Using paper is better than virtual/electronic.
Banning the use of paper may contradict the freedom of choice and could hurt the overall school's reputation.
Continued
Eliminating the use of paper from campus decreases the ability to turn in assignments and get information out to the public.
Everyone on campus might not have the ability to use electronics to do assignments
Electric P.O.V
Going virtual is cheaper More sustainable than paper. Turning assignments in online is easier More compatible.
Continue
Printing gets costly Quicker/less messy turn ins Easier to use electronics than paper.
Solution/compromise
Have middle ground on paper usesage Allot days for paper use and days for
electronic use Don’t use any in excess Recycle papers and conserve energy.
