Jesse G. Brown and Family Born 1842 and died 1900 (both in current-day Douglas County, Missouri) He was the son of eastern Kentuckians Lyhue and Elizabeth (Hall) Brown who migrated to the county in circa 1837. Married Mary Burton (1842-1881) about 1862 — they had six children (Louise, George H., Mar-tha “Frankie”, Isaac, James L., and William Samuel). Married Mary Beers (1842-1914) in 1882 — they had two children (Louis Paul and William Mari-an). Before marrying Jesse G. Brown, Mary was married to and widowed by first, Zachariah Wells, and then Joseph Dotson. She bore children in each marriage.

“Elder” Isaac Brown and Family Born in 1846 in current-day Douglas County, Missouri, and died near Cleveland, OK in 1909,. He was buried in the Union (Brown) Cemetery near Quinlan, OK. Isaac married Mrs. Caroline Frances (Morgan) Morgan in 1865 probably in Taney County, MO. He and Caroline were living with their family in Indian Territory near Lenopah, OK in 1893 south of Coffeyville Ks. By 1895, the family had settled on land near Quinlan, OK in Woodward County OK, and re-ceived land patents on the parcels in 1905. The Union (Brown) Cemetery sits on this original parcel of land. Isaac, Caroline, and many of their descendants are buried . After Caroline died in 1905, Isaac married Emma E. (Webb) McClurg in 1907.

Isaac S. Brown and Family Born 1870 in Douglas County, Missouri. He was the fourth of six children born to Jesse. G. & Mary Burton Brown. “Uncle Ike” died at nearby Ava, MO in 1961. Married Margaret Manning Burton in 1900 at Squires, MO. They had nine children all born at Squires. But in the late 1920s, the couple took over the Springcreek store previously owned by Uncle Ike’s half brother, Lou-is Brown, who opened up a store in Ava. Ike and Margaret spent the rest of their lives at Springcreek.

James Lihu & Amanda Melvina “Aunt Mel” (Morris) Brown

James Lihu Brown was born in Douglas County in 1873. He was the fifth of six children born to Jesse G. and Mary (Burton) Brown. In 1891, he married Amanda Morris, the daughter of John W. and Caroline (Honeycutt) Morris at Isabella, MO. Together they had 12 children all pictured below except for Vernie who died as a child. Jim and Mel raised their family on a small farm five miles south of Ava. Grandpa Brown died in a truck accident in 1935 at the age of 62. Grandma “Mel” Brown died in 1959 at the age of 82.
