MATTHEW 27-28; MARK 15-16; LUKE 23-24; JOHN 19-20

God’s gift to us is eternal life because Jesus took our punishment!

At the beginning when God created people, He made them perfect. But sadly, all people have sinned against God. All people have sin in their hearts. • Do you know why sin is a problem? (Sin separates us from God, because God is perfect; God never does wrong.)• If we want to know our wonderful God and be with Him in heaven one day, then we need God to make a way because

we all have sinned. Do you know of anything that God has done so that we can have our sins forgiven?

Because God is full of love, He did a most amazing and wonderful thing because He loved us. God sent His Son, Jesus, to earth to be our Savior.• When Jesus lived on earth, He taught people about God’s love for us. But sadly, some people didn’t like Jesus and

wanted to kill Him. Jesus let these people hurt Him very badly and kill Him on a cross. Do you know what a cross is?

When people were killed on a cross, it was to punish them for doing something very bad, but Jesus had NEVER done wrong. Jesus is perfect.• Was Jesus being punished for His sin? (No, Jesus never sinned.) Whose sin was Jesus being punished for? • The Bible says that the punishment for sin is death . . . who died in our place?• Think about the love of God for us! Jesus came to earth to take the punishment that we should have received . . . all

because He loves us and wants us to be with Him!

After the soldiers captured Jesus, they took Him to the ruler.• Could the ruler find anything wrong with Jesus? What did the people say to the ruler?• The people beat Jesus, made fun of Him, hurt Him very badly, and then took Him away to be killed. Before Jesus died,

He said that no one was taking His life from Him, but Jesus was giving His life for us. (John 10:18)

When Jesus died on the cross, some of the soldiers realized that He really was the Son of God.• As Jesus was dying, what happened to the sun for three hours? What happened to the earth?• What was the name of the place where Jesus died?• Two men were crucified next to Jesus. What happened to the one who believed in Jesus?• Pilate, the ruler, had a sign made to put above Jesus as He died. What did the sign say?

After Jesus was dead, a man named Joseph came with Nicodemus and lovingly wrapped Jesus’ body in cloth and laid it inside of a tomb cut out of the rock. A large stone was rolled over the opening of the tomb.• A few days later, who came to the tomb very early in the morning? Why were these women coming to the tomb? What

did the women see when they came to the tomb? • What did the angels say to the women? Was Jesus dead or alive? How was Jesus able to come alive?• Who did the women tell this good news to? Is this still good news for us today?

UNDERSTANDING THE STORY:

“For God so loved the worldthat He gave His only begotten Son, that

whoever believes in Him should not perishbut have everlasting life.” John 3:16

AND REMEMBER... MEMORY VERSE:

Because Jesus died on the cross and came alive, we can have our sins forgiven.• Each one of us needs God’s forgiveness. Jesus is the only One who can save us and take us to heaven when we die. If

you want to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, you can! God promises eternal life to those who are His children!• Let’s pray and thank Jesus for loving us enough that He would die for us and take our punishment!
