I AM ABOUT TO DO A NEW THING

Once again December comes with the most intense and profound

spiritual event retold and re-enacted. God became flesh. He lives with us and He is one among us. “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life” (John 3:16). Don’t you remember that angel who brought the good news for the world? “Do not be afraid; for see-I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

In December 2018, we have a wonderful gift from God, Jesus: The SoulMate magazine. Why the title Jesus: The Soulmate? A child of God gives us the answer from a real life experience, “I fell in love with Jesus because He loved me when I could not even love myself ”.

Jesus: The Soulmate is an evangelization magazine from Vincentian ministries. We want to preach through it that Jesus is the only Saviour of the world and if you believe in Him and accept Him as your personal redeemer He can be your soul’s sweet love and life’s best companion. As I introduce to you this spiritual magazine that we publish after a lot of prayers and intercessions please join me to praise and glorify God, for all what we have heard and seen like the shepherds who were invited by heaven to see that miracle called Jesus Christ.

cards, Christmas carols, Christmas cakes, Christmas gifts, Christmas parties, Christmas celebrations and Christmas shopping. Christmas has gone through a lot of changes over the years. In fact, it is observed, at present Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon.

But, there are Christian movements who encourage us to shift our attention to the real and amazing cause for Christmas who is Christ himself. Without Christ there is no Christmas. The message and values Jesus brought to this world must be the focus of the Christmas. Pro-Jesus and pro-poor Christmas is the meaningful and fruitful Christmas. Give spiritual preparations, prayers and worship a prominent place. Keep Christmas plans, decorations and celebrations simple. Focus on the need of the struggling poor around us. Find a way to share what we have. If we want to make Christmas spiritually significant for us we need to discover the spiritual aspects of Christmas we are most passionate about.

There is a poem composed by Howard Thurman which teaches us the real spirit of Christmas. “When the song of the angels is stilled,/ when the star in the sky is gone,/ when the kings and princes are home,/ when the shepherds are back with their flocks,/ the work of Christmas begins:/ to find the

lost,/ to heal the broken,/ to feed the hungry,/ to release the prisoner,/ to rebuild the nations,/ to bring peace among the people,/ to make music in the heart.”

Since the New Year also approaches us, let me bring for your reflection a popular poem written by British poet Minnie Louise Haskins. “And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:/ “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.” / And he replied: /“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God./ That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”/ So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night./ And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East./ So heart be still: /What need our little life Our human life to know, / If God hath comprehension? / In all the dizzy strife/ Of things both high and low,/ God hideth His intention./ God knows. His will/ Is best. The stretch of years/ Which wind ahead, so dim/ To our imperfect vision, / Are clear to God./ Our fears/ Are premature; In Him,/ All time hath full provision./ Then rest: until/ God moves to lift the veil/ From our impatient eyes, / When, as the sweeter features/ Of Life’s stern face we hail, Fair beyond all surmise/ God’s thought around His creatures/ Our mind shall fill.”

“Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and the rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:18-19).

I pray and wish, May your Christmas season be filled with Christ and his Joy and Peace. May the New Year bring to you abundant blessing.

Fr. Martin Chittadiyil V.C.

Editorial

Let us begin this new spiritual journey with a Christmas reflection. When Christmas season approaches, many of us promise ourselves every year that we will do things differently, but we don’t. Two thousand years later there is still no room for Jesus amongst the crowds of people who have forgotten why they celebrate Christmas. The world has shifted attention from Christ to Christmas

JESUS THE SOULMATE

What will separate us from the love of Christ? (Romans 8:35)

The Word of God says, “Do not be ashamed of the testimony about

our Lord” (1Timothy 1:8).

You are encouraged to send your testimonies to us for publication

if you are certain by faith that a miracle (blessing, breakthrough, healing, deliverance, conversion etc) has been granted to you by Jesus. Traditionally understood, a miracle is a supernatural sign or wonder, brought about by God, signifying His glory and the salvation of mankind.

The Church teaches, “If anyone says that all miracles are impossible,

and that therefore all reports of them, even those contained in Sacred Scripture, are to be set aside as fables or myths; or that miracles can never be known with certainty, nor can the divine not can the divine origin of the Christian religion be proved from them: let him be anathema” (Vatican Council I, Dei Filius, no.3).

Please note, “Society has a right to information based on truth,

freedom, and justice. One should practice moderation and discipline in the use of the social communication media” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2512).

We will try to publish as many testimonies as possible for the

glory of God and to deepen the faith the children of God.

Publishing your testimonies is done as part of the spiritual services

of Vincentian ministries. We do not demand or accept any fee to publish the testimonies.

However, we recommend to get some copies of JESUS: THE

SOULMATE and distribute them because this work of evangelization will not only encourage those who already know Jesus but also engage those who have not yet recognized Jesus as saviour in their lives.

If you own a shop or business, consider putting a display of this

magazine on your counter to resell to customers.

Give the magazine to your family members, church members,

workmates, friends, especially people in hospitals and schools as a gift.

Send your testimonies with a recent photograph to: jesusthesoulmate@

gmail.com or Whatsapp to 0766929181.

RETURN TO YOUR HOME, AND DECLARE HOW MUCH GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU (LUKE 8:39).

EVERYONE WHO ACKNOWLEDGES ME BEFORE OTHERS, I ALSO WILL ACKNOWLEDGE BEFORE MY FATHER IN HEAVEN (MATHEW 10:32).

JESUS THE SOULMATE

What will separate us from the love of Christ? (Romans 8:35)

COME LET US ADORE HIM

The birth of Christ was revealed by three kinds of witnesses

first, by the shepherds; second, by the Magi; third, by Simeon and Anna. Their lives chat out for us the path to a rich, personal God experience.

The Shepherds say: Be humble before the Lord.

These were people who kept the attitude of humility. They did not have a single speck of pride in the heart. God reveals himself to people who are humble. “The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself; so that you will find favour in the sight of the Lord.” (Sirach 3;18). A humble person submissively listens to God and obeys Him unreservedly.

The shepherds were at work - watching their sheep - when the angel appeared to them and announced the birth of the Lord. Casting aside their fear, they left the familiarity of their workplace. Their humility was the foundation upon which their belief in what

the angel announced to them was anchored; this same humility gave them a sense of courage and urgency, causing them as it

were, to travel “in haste” to visit the newly born Saviour. What joy must have been theirs when they saw the Saviour! Upon their return, Scripture tells us, “they glorified and praised God for what they had seen.” (Lk 2:20).

As long as your hands are full you cannot be in a position to receive. You can’t receive gold if your hand is full of pebbles. Equally, you can’t cling to the cross of Jesus, if your hands are full. Only those who come to God empty-handed can cling to the cross.

Very often our pride gets in the way with the undesired result that it blocks us from a genuine God experience. When we are full of ourselves (which is what pride essentially is) we will not be listening to the voice of God. St. James writes, “Receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (James 1:21).
