Dave HelfrichNancy Becker is an artist working primarily in the medium of glass. She has a wide range of skills and techniques which she uses to communicate her absolute love of the natural world. Color, texture and attention to detail mark her pieces. “Art is a language, a communication everyone knows at a deep level and I love to speak that language. My main art vocabulary exists in glass – a complex and mesmerizing material. Glass is either a solid or a liquid, changing properties as it changes temperature, it offers unusual challenges.”

Nancy Becker

Dave Helfrich is an artist of the Willamette Valley, working in the medium of Oregon grown hardwoods. “My inspiration comes from the natural beauty of the wood’s grain. Each piece is unique and beautiful and as it transforms into one of my hand made wood urns, that unique character is exposed. I’m proud of every piece that leaves my shop.”

Dave created his first wood piece in 1976 when he made a cabinet for a neighbor. He started out with basic tools: a router, a shop smith and an electric drill. In 1978, Dave built his first woodworking shop and he hasn’t stopped making beautiful pieces of art since. Dave and his wife, Bunny, owned a retail shop in Albany called “Bunny’s.” Both Dave and Bunny created artistic pieces for the store and Dave’s woodwork mostly consisted of duck decoys and jewelry boxes. Today, Dave makes a variety of shapes and sizes of cremation urns. His favorite woods are Myrtle, Ash, Maple, Walnut, Oregon Oak and Alder.

Jason and Angie Pope are a husband and wife team that specialize in custom rock and granite memorials. Jason began working in the memorial business almost 30 years ago as a fine arts artist. In 1999, he decided to start his own memorial business. Angie joined him in 2004. Their family philosophy is that everyone deserves a beautiful, custom memorial, no matter their price range. Jason specializes in hand drawn portraits and personalized artwork. Both Angie and Jason were raised in the Northwest and love the chance to use local rock products, as well as granites from around the world. They are grateful every day to be able to help families memorialize their loved ones in unique and special ways.

Neal Galligan

Neal Galligan was introduced to wood-turning at the young age of 15. With the mentorship of a high school woodshop teacher he began turning bowls, candlesticks and lamp bases. After high school Neal followed in his father’s footsteps and served 25 years as a firefighter on the Phoenix Fire Department in Arizona. After his retirement in 2001, Neal moved to Oregon settling in the Tualatin Valley area with his wife. Still today Neal is awestruck by the beauty of this state.

In 2004 Neal was given a very old wood lathe. He had not turned wood since high school and quickly remembered how very much he enjoyed this art. He loves watching a piece of raw wood, complete with its bark, metamorphosis into a stunning piece of art. He says “Each piece of wood I turn is different and individual. When I turn a piece of wood it is like a new discovery. I believe the wood is the art, and I am the medium that has the pleasure of uncovering its natual beauty.”

Recognizing the importance of paying tribute to a lost loved one, Neal takes great pride in creating his urns. His urns can be made in all sizes, from keepsake urns to companion urns. Occasionally, Neal will purchase a unique piece of wood that is not native to this area, but primarily uses native woods of Maple, Oak, Myrtle, Cherry and Walnut.

Neal’s urns are individually priced depending on the uniqueness of the wood and the time spent creating the urn.
