• in november 2012, along with aipaC, adl stand with us and FidF, Federation’s JCrC rallied more than 1,500 members of the san diego community to stand with israel when she was under attack by hamas rockets. Through the efforts of our Jewish Community relations Council, we brought seven elected san diego officials on their first trip to israel. our chaplaincy program comforted hundreds of Jews in their time of need. we strive to make new connections with Jewish young adults with our nextgen efforts.

• Federation engaged thousands of san diegans with our newly structured flagship events, men’s event and options, by making them more about engaging the community. we welcomed a record-breaking 5,000+ people to our annual Yom ha’atzmaut Festival, officially decreed by the city as “san diego Celebrates israel”. The result has been an enormous success!

Young adult divisionFederation’s Young adult division (Yad), is the nexus of san diego’s vibrant community of Jews aged 21 to 45.

Yad offers various channels of engagement in order to be the most diverse young adult group in the county. our mission is to encourage young adults in san diego to connect to the Jewish community in ways that are most meaningful to them. Through this strategy, Yad is able to attract many brilliant and creative minds in san diego and connect them to our Jewish community.

Jewish Community relations CouncilThe Jewish Community relations Council (JCrC) is a strategic resource that serves as the point of connection between the Jewish and greater san diego community, fostering enhanced relations with local and national organizations.

JCRC in ACtion: 2013-2014•lead a mission including seven local elected officials to israel to promote greater

understanding and support for the Jewish state •initiated the san diego Jewish advocates Fellowship, a cohort of 12 highly accomplished

young professionals, in partnership with JFs, JCF, nextgen, leichtag and the California Jewish legislative Caucus

•partnered with Jewish Family service to launch Community Connections, a new initiative to bring the Jewish community together around critical public policy and governmental issues

•Educatedrepresentativesfrom27differentJewishcommunitypartnerorganizationsonkeyeconomic and social challenges facing our growing aging population

•Joined 100 Jewish community leaders from across the state to support policy priorities during sacramento advocacy day

one happy CamperCountless studies have shown that Jewish overnight summer camp has lasting effects on campers, inspiring a lifelong commitment to Jewish life.

This past year, Federation’s one happy Camper program provided grants for 163 kids to attend residential Jewish camp.

resident camp needs-based scholarshipswe added four new camp partners and additional funding to our program as well as a volunteer arm for campers to give back to our community and stay involved all year long. we provided more than $35,000 in needs-based scholarship funds directly to camps. Your Federation dollars provide these kids an opportunity to connect to their Jewish heritage, build our community, and change their lives.

sha’ar hanegevHometo7,000residents,Sha’arHaNegevisbravelysituatedjustkilometersawayfromtheGazaborder.Federation supports economic development, people-to-people exchanges, and provides social services for its residents. we are honored to nurture this 15-year-strong dynamic relationship and thus far have provided more than $11 million in funding to the region. in 2013, san diego was host to three sha’ar hanegev delegations that impacted more than 1,000 san diegans, and sha’ar hanegev was host to 300+ san diegans who visited the region. This year’s san diego Jewish Film Festival featured a screening of sha’ar hanegev sapir College Film school’s “a day in the negev,” which exposed our community to six short films about life in the negev region.

san diego Celebrates israelThanks to your generosity, Federation hosted the 2013 san diego Celebrates israel Yom ha’atzmaut Festival, commemorating the 65th independence day of israel. The 5,000+ people in attendance created a strong feeling of community and warmth that filled our new location, nobel athletic Field. The dozens of synagogues, organizations, merchants and vendors who participated in the event underscore the local community’s deep commitment to israel. we have received tremendous positive feedback about the san diego Celebrates israel Festival, and recognize that it was because of the community’s participation and partnerships that this dream became a reality.

ChaplaincyThe Jewish Community Chaplain responds to the acute pastoral and spiritual needs of unaffiliated Jews who are ill, at end of life, or experiencing life crises, including those in hospitals, long-term care facilities and prisons.

Your Federation dollars ensure that every Jewish person in SanDiegohassomeonetotalktointimeofneed.Injustthe last year, our Community Chaplain served more than 260 clients, officiated at or arranged more than 45 funerals or memorial services, and visited more than 590 Jewish patients in the hospital.

women’s philanthropy CaresThis was another red-letter year for women’s philanthropy, highlighted by the unparalleled success of opTions. The extraordinarily generous underwriting of pauline Foster and the Foster Family Foundation made it possible for the event to be accessible to all, resulting in record-breaking participation. opTions was the largest gathering of Jewish women in san diego history, engaging hundreds of new and younger women for the first time.
