President’s Column

May was a busy month ending with a celebration of Shavuot. Thanks to the efforts of the Program Committee, Marian and Svetlana, May and June were packed with interesting events such as a preview of “Survival of a Nation” presented by Rabbi Mendy Blachman and Rabbi Kliel telling us How to navigate the Kosher Maze, our Open House, Tea at the Legislature and a highly successful Jamaica Day. The last week of June was also busy with a Multicultural Day in collaboration with the Canadian Multicultural Education Foundation and ending with Birthday Thursday when we recognised not only our members’ birthdays but also the one hundred and fiftieth birthday of Canada. Don’t miss our annual picnic which will be on Wednesday 19

th July in Hawrelak Park.

I have long felt that in a Centre such as ours we should have access to a Defibrillator if

the need should arise. I am delighted to inform you that thanks to the generosity of ORT and

doctors in the community we now have a defibrillator and staff members trained in its use.

I am sure that you have noticed Stuart Blower who joined for a short while to help us

with our communications and the new face in the office is Erika Damjanovic who will be with

us for the next three months.
