Father’s Day, D-Day, Inde-pendence Day! These holidays and observances, at their core, mean something very special!

Father’s Day in June is a day to celebrate and THANK your dad/grandfather/uncle/husband for all they do – give them a call or Facetime them! Activities staff are always willing to help with any phone calls, Facetime, Zoom calls, etc. for family to see their loved ones. We can also read or write letters back to families. With summer starting, picture taking is also a wonderful way to communicate with our loved ones. Send a picture of your garden and give updates on the back, send pictures of family pets, or projects you may be undertaking at home.

And, we all know the history behind Inde-pendence Day and why it is truly a cause for celebration! During these unparalleled times, don’t forget that it is always meaningful to thank a Vet the next time you see one or place that call to your family member and thank them for their service.

These last many weeks have been challenging to say the least. We all have made sacrifices to

keep each other safe. With every new development and challenge posed by COVID-19, I have watched those who work closest

to our clients give so much of themselves.

I am continually moved and impressed with the ease and warmth these folks go about meeting the increased needs of those most vulnerable citizens we serve. These caregivers have taken on multiple roles and duties as a result of increased safety measures. They have become our clients’ connection to the outside world, their surrogate families, their hairdresser and even their bingo opponents.

This is all done with a loving spirit and a light heart. They put on their best-masked face, so our clients feel comforted and not scared; so they feel loved not alone; so they are connected with their family and friends and not isolated.... continued at right.

I would like to welcome Morgan Anderson to our Chippewa Manor family!

Morgan has assumed the new role of Nurse Schedul-er and will be working full time. She will be the first

person you see when you walk through our front door.

Believe it or not, scheduling is a very time consuming, complex task. There are regulatory staffing requirements on every shift and Morgan ensures that we meet these requirements on a daily basis with the proper number of RNs and CNAs.

Morgan has experience in schedul-ing as she came from a large Illinois hospital and was responsible for schedul-

4Cookbooks are Part of Our HistoryBy Tristi CrawfordChippewa Manor Social Worker

Did you know that the oldest known recipes were recorded on three clay tablets called the “Yale Culinary Tablets” dating back to 1700 B.C.? The first known recorded cookbook was written in 4th century A.D. Rome titled, “The Art of Cooking”, and has over 500 recipes. The oldest known English Language cookbook, “The Forme of Cury,” was written

in 1390 by the Master Cooks for King Richard II and had over 205 recipes. Both are still in print today. The oldest known recipe is thought to be for Nettle Pudding from Britain, dating 8000 years ago. The recipe contains the ingredients of sorrel, water-cress, dandelions, nettles, chives, flower, salt, and water.

Chippewa Manor also has a history of recipes and cookbooks! These cookbooks are a collection of favorite recipes from residents, tenants, family, and staff. Accord-ing to Cindy Tewalt (Retired Activity Director), the first Chippewa Manor Cookbook was created in 1982 with 124 recipes and typed out on a manual typewriter. Volunteers assisted and it was sponsored by the Konsella Drug Store. The money raised was used for projects to benefit the residents. It was known as the “handiest cookbook ever” because the design/ size didn’t take up much space. The second volume in 1997 was similar but had around 282 recipes, which were typed by Cindy on her home computer. The third volume in 2002 was a combination of recipes from the previous cookbooks and new ones, with a grand total of around 423 delicious recipes.

After 18 years, we are excited to announce that Chippewa Manor is creating another cookbook! If you would like to share a favorite recipe for our cookbook, please con-tact Social Services, the Activity Department, or Shannon Small. We are excited to see how many recipes we can gather. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Celebrating anniversaries has always been an exciting time at Chippewa Manor and this year we will be celebrat-ing Residential Living’s 35th

anniversary! Since the beginning, Chippewa Manor made its mission to provide quality senior living and 35 years later, we are still living that mission.

Residential Living has seen many updates and changes throughout the years with the future in mind. We’ve seen the addition of assisted Living Services, a back-up generator, Health Link services, an upgraded fire alarm system - extending into each apartment and a new bus!

Another recent update is the café in our upgraded dining room! The café is often highly praised by residents because it allows for great conversations with friends and neighbors while enjoying coffee and treats. Another exciting upgrade at Chippewa Manor was the expansion of The Salon in 2014. Re-located to an entirely new area on our Third Floor, The Salon boasts a serene atmosphere with beautiful ammenities.

Our dining room and kitchen have also had a complete makeover - from the walls and floors to all of the equipment, tables and seating. We’ve also seen the addition of a second elevator, a northern main entrance, light-filled lobby, updates to apartment kitchens and bathrooms, re-decorating of our library and community room and even Chip-pewa Manor’s own dedicated TV channel, CMtv, available to each resident on Channel 900. Over the years, many exciting changes and updates have been added to Residential Living and there’s even more in our future!

ing the Nursing Department including ICU, Telemetry, 2 Medical Pediatrics, an Ortho/Neuro unit as well as the Observa-tion unit. While scheduling at Chippewa Manor can be challenging, I believe she is up to the task!

Morgan has been married to her hus-band, Saige for 2 and a half years and they have a 10- month- old baby boy named Barrett. They moved to the Chippewa Falls area to raise their son and enjoy the many activities of Northwoods living. They enjoy fishing, hiking, kayaking and watching sports, with football being their favorite. They are Green Bay Packers fans!

A fun fact about Morgan is her brother played on the offensive line for the Dallas Cowboys football team for a year. I’ll bet she was a Cowboy fan for a while as well. Please say hello and welcome Morgan!

We are excited to intro-duce CMtv, an important, additional method of keep-ing our residents informed, engaged and connected as

we continue to adhere to “Safer at Home.”CMtv is a dedicated channel for CMRL

residents to see and hear announcements, engage in games, win prizes, view menus, hear poetry readings, and listen to devo-tionals and hymns. Personal messages from Rev. Carl Trapani, Chaplain and other Chippewa Manor staff are prepared

weekly. All of the information appearing on CMtv has been developed and/or approved by Chippewa Manor for our residents.

And it’s easy to access CMtv! Our resi-dents simply select Channel 900 on their cable remote. Channel 900 is accessible 24 hours/day and repeats itself automatically if the channel is not changed, giving our residents the opportunity to not miss a thing!

In the near future, we will be expanding CMtv to include our clients at Chippewa Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation.

At Chippewa Manor, we will continue doing all we can to support the physical and emotional well-being of all those in our care.

Although The Salon is closed for services right now, you still have the opportunity to purchase hair care and skin care products.

For your hair care needs we have mousse, spray gels, and firm hold gel, which will help hold your hair style longer. We also have hair sprays, shampoos and conditioners. All products are certified organic for your

safety and include rich formulas to ensure healthy, shiny, hair, with proteins to strengthen hair. These certified organic products are also great for sensitive skin and scalps.

If you are struggling styling your hair these days, following are a few tips: gently pick out your hair, and if that is not enough, use a water mist or gently wet the hair. Use a gel, mousse or spray gel (available for purchase through The Salon). Comb your hair into place and let dry. Try to stay away from combs or brushes that can add static and make the hair appear fuzzy and frizzy.

4Life is a Journey and God Provides Along the WayBy Rev. Carl A. TrapaniChippewa Manor Chaplain

Ralph Waldo Emerson ranks among my favorite authors. He was truly a literary genius and philosopher. Emerson is

credited as the author for the quote “Life is a Journey, Not a Destination.” But the truth is, after lengthy research into the source, there is no proof that Emerson ever spoke or wrote these exact words, but that doesn’t make them any less true.

Life is a journey filled with lessons, hardships, heartaches, joys, celebrations and special moments. Life’s road is not always smooth and easy-going; in fact, throughout our travels, we encounter many rough places. Some of them test our courage, strengths, weaknesses, and faith. The rough places – the difficult times that happen to all of us, are not placed in our way to destroy us or stop us in our journey. They are there to develop us further; to increase our faith, strength and determination to go on. In order to

continue our journey, we must overcome them. It is only after overcoming the tough times that we see they were really blessings in disguise. How we react to what we are faced with determines what kind of outcome the rest of our journey through life will be like.

When things don’t go our way, we have two choices in dealing with the situations. We can focus on the negative aspects and dwell on what we lost or, we can make the best out of the situation and know that these are only temporary setbacks. Then apply what we have learned and keep on going.

God’s word has encouragement for us. His plans are ultimately for our very best interests. Jeremiah 29:11 says, ”For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

When we go through tough-times and rough-places, God’s word tells us exactly what we should do, and how God will respond to us. “…Call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You

C H A P E L O F T H E R E S U R R E C T I O N

will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:12-13).

In these days of the Covid-19 global pandemic, many people have been overwhelmed with worry and fear. There are millions of people who don’t know where to turn. Their plans for the future have been changed by recent events. Their journey on the highway of life has been obstructed and they feel very unsure of what to do next.

Here’s the answer to this problem. Remember God is still watching out for you. He has good plans for your life. So, turn to him with all your heart. Really pray and ask God for the reassurance you need. His promises are already given. Make the most of every day, but always remember, “Life is a Journey, Not a Destination.” It’s important to view life as an adventure not a routine. Days should be filled with joy, smiles and laughter. And remember - God provides!

For more verses proving God will provide read: Philippians 4:19, Matthew. 6:33, Matthew. 21:22, John 14:13-14, John 15:7 and Matthew 6:25-34.
