CONVENTION DATESARE APPROXIMAT'E
Eleventh Convention TentativeJanuary First and Second
With Kallikrates
From The Editor's Mail BoxT¥herein We Recount Things and Though~s
J;Vhich Come To O'ur Attention.
Alpha Rho Chi delegates vvill prohably meet in convention Ja:nuary 1st and2nd the dates now tentatively set by theent~rtaining chapter, Kallikrates, U niversity, Va.
1"'he attention of the several chaptersis called to the fact that but one activedelegate's expense will be pa!d to this, the Fraternity's Eleventh N atlonal Convention. Each paid delegate will hayethe chapter's two usual votes, unless achapter elects to pay the expens'es of asecond 111an. The status of the alumnidelegate rell1ains the same.
It vvas consideration of ways to reduc'econvention expenses, by the Tenth convention delegates, that brought aboutthis plan of restricting to one delegatefroD1 each chapter.
Nominate Gregory PresidentWord from Kallikrates chapter states
that Fendall L. Gregory, '25, R'ichmond,Va has been selected for conventionpre'~ident and O. B. Flannagan, '26, s'ccretary, to be placed in nODlination.Delegates at the Ninth and Tenth conventions will remember Brother Gregory, who is well fitted to preside at the forth-corning convention. .
Two D1ighty important 111atters \vlllcome before the Virginia convention. The first will be the consideration of thepetitio:n filed last year for a new chapter\vhich will conle up for vote this year.
Two A P X aluD1ni, one a MnesiclesInan and the other a:n Anthemios grad, sponsor a second petition, concerningwhich the chapters will be advised inthe usual confidential channels, and thef'2seems to be some, grounds for their urging cOinsideration of the waiving of. t~eone year probation rule. However, It IS
som'ething for the actives to considercarefully.
MNESICLES SELLS OUTA quick settlement with the U niversi
ty of lVlinnesota, $30,000 cash, and a clearfield in which to select a new lot andstart construction seemed the \visepolicy to the MnesiclesAlumni Association. The other alternative, a legal fightand comdemnation proceedings did notse'em to be vvorth the difference.
We are offering no apologies for thisissue only an explanation. I t is lateand ~ctual ne\vs space is limited. Limited becausethis is the directory issueand we are striving to be conservative. At this time we caninot afford two 12page issues in succession. The issue isseveral days behind time because of theunusual number of address changesamong A P X men within the last sixmonths. It has taken a great deal oftime to correct the rolls but we feel th'et'ime 'has been well spent.
Because of the limited space this issueis rather condensed and the make-up isunusual, but we hope to return to nor11lalcy next issue. Speaking of the December number, this 'edition will followrather closely on the heels of this copyfor two reasons, first, to get to theactives b'efore the Christmas holidaysand, second, to carry news that shouldhave appeared this month.
Patterson Designing NowIn the Decell1ber issue \ve will present
a new monthly featur'e by the GrandLecturer, Jos. J. Patterson. BrotherPatterson has bee1n and 'is devoting agood deal of time to a series of historical sketches of the old arch'itects after\VhOlTI our chapters are named. Watchfor the story of Anthemios in DeceDlher.
Incidentally, the G. L. is on a year'sleave of absence from teaching at Oklahoma A. & M., and is designing fromSanquinet, Staats a:nd Hedrick, Ft.

Another thing we will attempt to pr'esent in the December number is a symposium of ideas on the question of"rough stuff" at initiation time. Thequestion is quite pertinent in many institutions in particular and in the fraternity world in general. D K E Quarterlysays: "There is no better way to starta fraternity man wrong than to givehim the impression he is joining ahazing club." Alpha Rho Chi leaders, alvvays conservative, have expressedthell1selves to your editor.
A Friend Passes
It is \vith genuine sorrow that vve areobliged to chronicle the death of a manloved and respected by hundreds ofarchitectural students and alumni of Illinois and Minnesota. Coming to Minnesota froln Illinois with the establishment of the Department of Architectureat Minnesota eleven years ago, Prof. J as.H. Forsythe won an e'nviable place in theresp'ect of his students. Under his guidance the Frosh received their Eleme'ntsand the Sophs their introduction toarchitectural history. 11any a tin1e his'eves reflected n1emories as he told ofFlorence and Venice and Italian D100nlight.
"Jimrnie" Forsythe passed to' his rewardNov. 1st at his home in S1. Paul.tIe was survived by his widow, a sister-of Bro. Wm. Kirchner, 11necicles, hisparents and a brother and sister. In addition to his duties in the department atl\1innesota, Mr. Forsythe was consultingarchi tect for the Board of Regeints, theliason officer between the administration and the state architect.
Bro. F'. M. Mann, 11nesicles honorary, Head of the Department at M'innesota since coming from Illinois, willsucceed 1\I1r. Forsythe as ConsultingArchitect. Bro. Ma:nn graduated fron1Minnesota in civ~I engineering in 1892and Mass. Inst.~f Tech. in 1894, and hasbeen head of the ,department at Minnesota since its establ'ishment.

The Grand Council's DirectoryCORREST TO NOV. 20 1925
Only such men as have been initiated andhave a directory card in the Grand Councilfile are included. For example, a man stayson the pledge, list until an approved directory card is received by THE ARCHI attesting to his initiation. This plan is the onlyfair one.
To the users of the directory we call attention to the fact that this will be the lastcomplete directory until next spring, keepit. Changes of address, supplementing thisdirectory, will continue to be published eachmonth. To all men we suggest, that youscan the whole list for men of other chapters in your vicinity, forge the links offriendship in Alpha Rho Chi.
