NEW DELHI, July 28:

The Centre today asked allstates to offer power to indus-tries at a fixed rate for a fixedperiod to attract investments.

Power Minister PiyushGoyal said in Lok Sabha thatthe country was producingsufficient power and henceefforts should be made byState Governments to attractindustries by offering unin-terrupted power.

"Industries need uninter-rupted power. If we can guar-antee power, investment willcome for industries.Therefore, I would like torequest all members to per-suade their respective stategovernments to offer regularpower to industries for a fixedrate like Rs 4, Rs 4.5 or Rs 5per unit for 10 or 15 years," hesaid during question hour.

Goyal said as per informa-tion reported by the states toCentral Electricity Authority(CEA), energy shortage atall- India level was reducedto 2.1 per cent during 2015-16 which is the lowest in lasttwo decades.

The power supply position

is monitored by CEA and ithas been observed thatdemand-supply gap exists inthe states and UTs despiteavailability of adequatepower in the country.(PTI)
