UPPER WEST SIDE APARTMENT

Project ArchitectDavid Hotson Architect2014

This gut renovation of a 1,500 square foot Manhattan apartment was an exercise in careful detailing. Every room features custom millwork including cabinetry, PTAC enclosures, flush har-mon-hinged doors, and curtain pockets at the windows. A consistent formal lan-guage was maintained through precise calibration of reveals and alignments. Concealed LED lighting was incorporated into soffits and cabinetry to serve as cove lighting, downlights, and task lighting.

BROOKLYN TOWNHOUSE

Project ArchitectDelson or Sherman Architects2011

Although many of the original details of this Park Slope townhouse were intact when the owners purchased it, its age was evident and it had gone though a number of partial renovations over the years.

In this project, the living, dining, and bed-rooms were restored while the kitchen, bathrooms, and garden level were fully modernized. The garden was completely redesigned to incorporate built-in seating and a masonry planter. One of the parlor floor windows was enlarged to accommo-date a new stained glass door leading to a new cast iron and glass deck.

FIRE ISLAND ADDITION

Project ArchitectDelson or Sherman Architects2012

This addition and renovation of an existing beach house on Fire Island was designed for hurricane-zone code compli-ance and as a result emerged from Hur-ricane Sandy unscathed. Despite its calm aesthetic, every component, from its foundation to the framing of the break-away structure of the pool embodies a response to the challenges of building along the shore.

CHELSEA LOFT

Project ArchitectMatthew Baird Architects2008

This 5,000 sf loft was the result of com-bining two apartments. The industrial origins of the space are expressed in a perimeter of exposed concrete at the floor and ceiling. The renovation is con-ceived as an additional layer applied to this existing shell.

The center bay of the apartment is main-tained as an open loft while the side bays serve as bedroom suites, a home office, and a glass-enclosed sun room. Walnut, white matte lacquer, stone, and stainless steel are used throughout.

Highly-detailed custom millwork serves multiple functions: a writing desk, coffee bar, and drop-down projection screen are all housed within a wall of cabinetry that establishes a rhythm and material consistency along the main axis.

HUDSON VALLEY HOUSE

Project ArchitectMatthew Baird Architects2009

Built on a hilltop overlooking adjacent farms and pastures, this project draws inspiration from the industrial simplicity of its prefabricated steel structure as well as the rusticity of its immediate environs.

The envelope of the house, constructed from COR-TEN steel, polycarbonate panels and custom wood windows, was designed to maximize light and views.
