    In Class Assignment #1

Leaving the sports industry to become a teacher may sound insane to most, but for David

Vinturella, it was a priority to help students find their path into his industry.

You have to start preparing for the real world, and the sooner you do that, the more

successful you will be, Vinturella said.

Vinturella, a doctoral student at the University of Alabama, is using his vast experience to

help students gain theirs. A graduate from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. Vinturella

received his masters degree at Georgia State in Atlanta. Following his career, Vinturella spent

15 years with major sports agencies to realize the industry didnt meet his long-term

    expectations.

With his new career, Vinturella wants to help students with dreams and aspirations

similar to his get jobs. In his short time at the University of Alabama, Vinturella noticed that the

university wasnt proactive enough when it comes to helping its students get jobs.

Theres a discrepancy between the management and the customers of what the end

result needs to be, Vinturella said. Whats your end result: to learn or get a job?

Vinturella looks at college with the mindset that the university is the manager, and the

student is the customer. With that mindset, Vinturella came to find out that the universities arent

helping the students acquire jobs, as they should.

  • There are people that are there, they want to help you and they want to engage, but the

just arent asked to, Vinturella said.
