Joan Morrow Kuniken, daughter of the late Bernice McQuay- Cornish and Sylvester Tucker, was born on December 4, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this world on April 13, 2020. Joan was educated within the Baltimore City Public School System, where she earned her high school diploma. She had two previous marriages and six children prior to meeting her soul mate, Charles W. Kuniken. They married in 1964 and their union lasted until his death in 1977. Joan and Charles shared six children, bringing her total to twelve, six boys and six girls. Joan’s calling in life was to help people. One morning while going to get her cup of coffee, she saw an elderly lady sleeping in a box in the snow and took her home with her. That act of kindness started her on her path of purchasing homes to provide shelter and care for elderly and mentally challenged individuals. Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family. Her favorite pastime was to go fishing. She also enjoyed cooking, trips to Atlantic City, music, dancing and playing cards. At 4 foot 11 inches, she would say she walked 6 feet tall. She had a mouth of a giant and was never afraid to speak her mind. Preceding her in death are her husband, Charles; parents, Bernice and Sylvester; two sons, Carl and Darryl; two daughters, Maxine and Bernadette; three grandsons, Donte, Damien and Jeremiah; granddaughter, Gussie; four great grandchildren, Dashiera, Doniece, Amira and Jasmine; three sons-in-law, Lamarr, Vernon and William; and two daughters-in-law, Joanne and Delores. Joan leaves to mourn: four sons, Nathaniel, Elwood, Jesse and Charles; four daughters, Brenda, Gloria, Belinda and Tonya; son-in-law, Tony; a huge host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Dear Grandma Today and tomorrow, my whole life through

I will always love and cherish you There was magic in your touch and sunshine in your smile

There was love in everything you did to make our lives worthwhile We found both hope and courage just by looking in your eyes

Your laughter was a source of joy, your words, warm and wise There was a kindness and compassion found within your embrace

While shining down from heaven above We will see the glow of your shadow

To remind us all that you still walk within our hearts. I love you Grams

    Love, Daisy
