Definition of Job letterA Job letter is a letter that accompanies your resume and introduces you and your qualifications to a potential employer. It is also known as a “Cover Letter”. In the cover letter, you should state which position you are applying for and why you are qualified for the job.

requirements• You should also use your cover letter to highlight your most

relevant skills and experience, while making sure that you keep it concise and to the point.

• Your cover letter should be representing you as a professional person.

Purpose of The Job Letter

The purpose of the cover letter is to introduce yourself to an organization, demonstrate your interest in the company or a specific vacancy, draw attention to your resume and motivate the reader to interview you. Often this letter is the first contact you have with a prospective employer. A neat, concise, well-written letter can entice the employer to read your resume with greater interest and will improve your chances of getting an interview.

The Job letter typically consists of three parts: introduction, body, and closing. Within these three parts you must include:

Types of Job Letter

• Solicited Job Letters: If a job is advertised are available, the person sends a solicited application letter. Solicited job application is written by the job seeker in response to an advertised vacancy provided by the employer.

• Unsolicited Job Letter: If the job was not announced, the person sends an unsolicited letter hoping there might be an open position within the company. It is written by the job seeker in response to an advertised vacancy provided by the employer.

Date: The date is written at the top with the left margin in the Job Application. Inside Address: The name and Address of the employer is usually placed at the left hand corner two spaces below the level of date.Subject Line: it is indicated the position that an applicant want to apply.Salutation: Usually “Dear Sir/Dear Sirs” are used in application letters addressed to business organizations, but for a govt. job “sir” is preferable when addressing a Govt. Officer.
