Hourly rates – this is the amount you are paid each hour. Piece work – this is when you are working at a set time for a specific project e.g. editing for a music video. Financial Executive Producer- work on a fixed term basis. If you want to be an execu- tive producer you will have to take re- posibilities of the product, this mean that you have to overlook the production working intail with the other producers, also you have to make sure that the pro- duction stays within budget, time sched- ule and is to the correct standard. On av- erage executive producers earn around £70,000. Organisational Casting Director casting directors work office hours. A casting directors mainresponsibilties is to organise the ac- tors, while woring in conjunction with the producer and director. A casting director average wage isaround £55,000. Administrative Trainee trainees work shift work. As a trainee the responsibilities you will be in- tailing wiould be helping the department you work for, filing, photcopying, working in conjunction with roles within the de- partment. As a trainee you usually don’t get paid but sometimes you can the av- erage wage for media trainee is £4.50- £7.50

Editorial

Script editor – a script editor does piece

work which means they work for a certain

amount of time on a specific project. As a

script writer you will be reporting to the de-

velopment producer, while working with the

executive producers and writers to make

sure the script to up to the standard. The

average wage you would be earning being

a script writer would be around £42,000.

Technical

Set runner – set runners work on an hourly/

daily rate. Some of the things you will be

doings would be; collecting and delivering

equipment, crossing messages between de-

partments, filing, driving vehicles, keeping

sets clean and tidy, making tea and coffee.

A set-runners hourly rate is averagely be-

tween £6.50-£8.80 per hr.

Research

Researcher – researchers work irregular

patterns, while on a freelance contract, the

main responsibilities a researcher has is to

discuss programme and film ideas, check-

ing information sourced from the internet

writing brief for presenters, looking for loca-

tions, keeping detailed records. If you were

to become a researcher you could get paid

around £415 per week if you were a junior

research the more experienced researcher

earn around £650 per week.

Management

Production manager – production

managers usually have irregular work

patterns but they can also have free-

lance contracts. Some of things you

would be doing is; Meet the producer

and senior production staff to examine

scripts or programme ideas, draw up a

production schedule and budget based

on the logistics, timings and estimated

costs, negotiate costs with suppliers,

hire the crew and contractors. If you

were to become a production manager

you would be earning within the region

of £40,000-£60,000.

Creative

Director – a directors working hours are

irregular because they work long hours

and also work on the weekends. Some

of things you would be doing is; meeting

producers, commissioning a script or an

idea for a documentary, interpreting

scripts and developing storyboards, de-

ciding on how the production should

look and where it should be filmed, plan-

ning the shooting schedule and logis-

tics, hiring the cast and crew, guiding

the technical crew, directing the actors,

supervising the editing to produce the

final 'cut'. The average wage for a direc-

tor is between £50,000-£70,000.
