Camera Operator
(Studio/Outside
Broadcast)
The camera man is in charge of recording and
getting a ll of the action shots and high angle and
low angle shots. The key is to get a good variety.
A good sense of visual composition,
perspective and movement, combining
creativity with technical skills.
Precise attention to detail combined with
effective communication skills.
Script Supervisor
A script supervisor is a member of a film crew
responsible for getting the motion picture's
internal continuity and for recording the
production (which is a daily process)
You don’t need a formal qualification to
become a Script Supervisor. However, some
fi lm schools and training courses offer a good
bas ic grounding in the skills and knowledge
you’l l need.
Make-Up and Hair
Artist - Film & TV
The hair and makeup artist is the person that
works on the actors to make them look perfect in
the fi lming process.
You would normally start in your career by
ga ining at least a Level 2 qualification in
media make-up or an equivalent
qualification. There are a wide range of
courses available through colleges and
private tra ining providers.
Director
The responsibility of being a film director is giving
di rect orders to the crew in the last minutes
decisions.
They make people realise a vision of
what the future film will look l ike or end
up.
Researcher
As a media researcher you would support
producers by finding the information, people and
places needed for television or radio programmes.
There are no set entry requirements to
become a media researcher. The
industry i s very competitive and it i s
becoming more common for new
researchers to have a degree or
equivalent qualification.
Gaffer
Gaffer in the motion picture industry and on a
television crew is the head electrician, responsible
for the execution (and sometimes the design) of
the l ighting plan for a production.
You must be a fully-qualified electrician to be
a Gaffer, with relevant Ci ty & Guilds or
electrical engineering qualifications at HND.
You wi ll need to keep your skills up to date
with further training as television l ighting
technology and techniques are constantly
changing.
Boom Operator
A boom operator is an assistant of the production
sound mixer.
You won’t need a qualification to be a TV
Boom Operator. However it i s vital to be able
to show a s trong interest in sound and an
understanding of its physical properties.
