Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Community, ASSEMBLY Congratulations to Kiara who was awarded the Beverley Whitfield award at the assembly on Monday, a prestigious award recognising Kiara‘s swimming achievements. Kiara was presented this award by our local Mayor, Cr Marianne Saliba, in honour of Beverley Whitfield a famous Olympic swimmer who grew up in Shellharbour. LEARNING CONVERSATIONS It’s not too late to book in for a learning conversation with your child and their teacher. Parent/Teacher/Student Learning Conversations will be held throughout the next 2 weeks, from Monday 26 August until Friday 6 th September. Learning conversations will be held in your child’s classroom and include the parents/carer, teacher and student. This opportunity empowers students to share their learning, as well as promote a shared responsibility of parents, teachers and students working together. The Learning Conferences are strictly 20 minutes and spaces are limited. If you require more time with a particular teacher, please arrange a separate meeting by contacting the teacher or telephoning the school on 4296 6266. In addition, if the times scheduled are not suitable, please phone the office so alternate arrangements can be discussed. Go to www.schoolinterviews.com.au and enter the code e94gs MORNING ASSEMBLY & KISS & DROP Last year we introduced an initiative for students in Kindergarten to Year 2 called Drop and Kiss initiative and encourage parent to use the same strategy. This will enable students to build confidence and independence and support all students to get into their classroom quickly and straight into learning. We ask that when the bell goes that parents kiss their children and encourage them to move to their lines, and therefore into their classrooms independently. We still encourage you to stay for assembly and wave your children off as they head to their classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with your child’s teacher. All parents are welcome to stay for our morning assembly and hear the messages provided to our students. We ask that parents remain to the side or the back of the assembly and refrain from walking through to their child or in front of the speaker and to hold their conversations until the end. This allows our students to listen and concentrate on the messages being provided. If you are needing to speak with your child’s teacher we ask that you seek them out prior to assembly by visiting the office or by making an appointment. DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Congratulations to Teileigha and Georgia for making it to the next level for athletics. We wish them the very best of luck and feel proud they are representing our school. P&C MEETING Our next P&C meeting will be held on Monday 2 September at 1.30pm in the Community Room. We encourage everyone to come along to learn more about our school and the role of the P&C. BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS Thank you to the many parents and family members who joined us for our Book Week celebrations. As always we are overwhelmed by the amazing costumes and enthusiasm for books at our Book Week Parade. The book fair continues to be running throughout this week. We encourage all family to head to the library, as books are on sale from $1.50. Thank you to some of our P&C members for their support in setting up the Book Fair and to Mrs Marold for her organisation and contagious passion for books. FATHER’S DAY STALL The Father’s Day stall, organised by our P&C, will take place this week, Thursday 29th August. Students are encouraged to bring $5 to purchase their dad or special person a gift. Thank you in advance to the P&C members who have volunteered their time to organise gifts, the raffle and will also support the stall on the day. Our school is so lucky to have such a dedicated group of member. If you’ve not been able to volunteer previously, it’s not too late. The P&C will also have gifts available for purchase on Friday if you missed out. SASS RECOGNITION WEEK This week we also recognise the hard work and dedication of our School Administration and Support Staff. Our SAS staff consists of administration staff, library assistants, SLSOs, general assistants, a school chaplain and community liaison officer. Our school wouldn’t be the same without this amazing group of people who are dedicated to our school, students and families. I encourage our whole school community to show your appreciation to our SAS staff by thanking them for ensuring are students are known, valued and cared for. 2020 KINDERGARTEN AND PRESCHOOL ENROLMENTS We are currently accepting enrolments for students starting Kindergarten in 2020 and also for parents wishing for their child to attend our preschool in 2020. If you or anyone you know is seeking enrolment for 2020, please call into the school office to collect an enrolment form. It’s important for us to have this information by the end of this term, so children can participate in transition activities and parents can receive vital information. LAKE LEARNING COMMUNITY PUBLIC SPEAKING Mount Warrigal Public School will once again participate in our Community of Schools Public Speaking Competition. This will run the same as last year, culminating with the stage winner competing at Lake Illawarra High School, alongside representatives from Lake Illawarra South PS, Warilla North PS, Primbee PS and Windang PS. All students will be encouraged to present a speech within their class, as part of the English syllabus, and the top speaker from each class will then present at stage finals to determine who will go on to represent our school on the 17th September (Week 9). WEARING A HELMET Cyclists of all ages are required by law to wear a correctly fitted and fastened helmet that meets the Australian Standard. It is also recommended by Transport for NSW that riders of scooters and skateboards wear an approved helmet. This is supported by the Department of Education as well as a part of the behaviour code and school expectations. Parents and carers are asked to support the school and the department by complying with this law. Schools may advise parents or carers if a student is not wearing a helmet and may request the student not bring their bike onto school grounds. Kind regards, Jodi Niedermayer

‘Ouch! That stings!

Duckworth starts to puff up (He’s allergic to cactus)

He gets bigger and bigger and bigger ………………………………

Oh No! He’s broken through the roof!

Daisy unicorn appears

Kapow. Her Magical powers Zap Duckworth

He zooms everywhere like a deflating balloon PHTTTTTTT………

Oh No ………………I’m the size of an ant “ sighs Duckworth

I just want to be me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He cries

The unicorn blows her magic breath over the hapless duck.

Duckworth goes back to his normal size and floats onto the unicorn’s back.

TA DAH!
