The Marmara Park Avenue, a 128-key artisanal boutique hotel in the heart of Manhattan, is one of the latest projects by Joe Ginsberg Design. By seamlessly blending nature with the pulse of New York, we were able to achieve the client’s goal, which was to create a cosmopolitan oasis for the hotel.
From the intricate facets of the bronze entry door to the hand blown wine vessels, each custom detail within The Marmara Hotel weaves an intriguing tale. Bespoke applications and artisanal details have created a look exclusive to the Marmara brand. From the architectural components to the sculptural focal points, Ginsberg has amassed influences from the past and present to convey the essence of a timeless metropolis.

EXTERIORThe exterior of The Marmara Park Avenue is clad in black riveted iron, accented with silt cove sconces molded into the building’s façade. The main lobby is accessed through the blackened steel atrium featuring prismatic faceted glass and a tumbled paved walkway, bringing a sense of the outside in.

ENTRANCEThe vestibule is lit by a cast bronze hand blown glass pendant. A polished bronze diamond patterned door opens into the grand artisanal hotel lobby, showcasing a reclaimed parquet wood ceiling and seamless limestone walls.

CONCIERGEUpon arrival, the hotel guests are greeted by two sculptural limestone concierge desks and a majestic hand woven tapestry inspired by an original Joe Ginsberg mixed media work. A seamless poured concrete floor is punctuated by an inlaid brass king and queen pattern throughout the lobby.
MAIN LOBBYA sculptural mirrored stainless steel fireplace takes center stage dividing the lounge and bar, along with the hand carved aviary abacus. The carved wooden birds were aged in soil creating character and a natural patina, complementary to the interior.

LOBBY FURNISHINGSGem-toned accents and rich textures add tactile contrast against a neutral palette in the lobby. Neoclassical inspired sofas line the front wall in a refined yet relaxed aesthetic. Embroidered quilted details and hand-beaded linen drapes combine artisanal techniques with sophisticated grandeur. A stone water feature functions as a central accent table, while a custom geometric mobile hovers above the west side lounge of the grand lobby.

WINE BARHand-blown glass vessels line the illuminated platinum glass walls at the wine bar, conveying Mediterranean charm as guests enjoy wine from Marmara’s own vineyard. The custom brass ribbon pendant over the bar spans up to 10 feet in length and hangs as an architectural halo over the waxed walnut counter slab.

LIBRARYThe rich walnut library provides a quiet corner housing books and handmade accessories, adjacent to the angled fireplace in a seamless limestone finish

PRE-FUNCTION ROOMThe business center on the ground level features monochromatic lacquer panels, concealed storage, an organic wood slab table, artisan roll back chairs, a geometric hide rug, and custom brass sliding doors with bronze glass. Four distinctive jewel toned glass restrooms are concealed behind French inspired lacquered closet panels. Antique mirrored ceilings create height and illusion throughout the passageways, elevator foyer and business center.

GUEST SUITE LIVING ROOMSArtisanal details are the focal points in the guestroom. A photograph of the Third Avenue Bridge became an intricate wallpaper graphic to style the entry foyers. Selected works from Joe Ginsberg’s fine art collection are featured in all suites. “Take the Bus” is an overscale collage showcasing a few years’ worth of Joe’s own NYC parking tickets and is seen in most guest suite living rooms. A hand tufted rug inspired by an original Joe Ginsberg watercolor accents the hard oak floors. The room number signs are illuminated laser-cut steel with a customized font created by the designer.

GUEST SUITE LIVING ROOMSThe custom millwork throughout the hotel includes media units, wine bars, banquets and built-in dressers in a variety of sizes to accommodate each room. All interior fittings were carefully selected by the design team at Joe Ginsberg, including furnishings and lighting from his line, Tempo Luxury Home. Hand-blown glass pendants in different shapes and colors signed by the artist bring variety to the guest suite dining areas.

LUXURY PENTHOUSEA luxurious palette of grays and neutrals bring understated elegance into the penthouse quarters with modern furnishings, traditional accents and contemporary fine art by Joe Ginsberg. Glass front Italian kitchens with seamless Calcutta gold marble, uniquely designed stone baths, travertine floors in living rooms and terraces with sweeping city views make the penthouses at The Marmara Park Avenue a heavenly place to be.
POOLA Mediterranean style wellness center invites guests to retreat to a sub ground sanctuary. A bronze glass separates the fitness facility from the adjoining pool. A vaulted teak ceiling shelters the pool area, with a custom mural by Joe Ginsberg on the back wall. The pool floor consists of iridescent mosaics tile inspired by his Skan-9 series photography.
