JACQUES DEMOLAY

My Brethren,

Last month, we had a great turnout for the DDGM, in addition to, two fraternal visits - one from Dale City and the other from our northern most lodge in the district, Mount Vernon. Thank you so much to our visiting brethren as well as our own members for attending. I am sure the DDGM felt very welcome at our lodge.

We also had three visiting seated masters, and I had the pleasure to receive the travelling gavel from Worshipful Brother Al. It was a real honor that he considered us for its receipt. It’s definitely an impressive gavel indeed, and checks off one of the things I wanted to accomplish this year - get The Gavel.

My talk on the shot tower was short and sweet; and even with a slight sound technical difficulty, it seemed to keep people’s interest. If you want to actually listen to the video that was played here is the link https://youtu.be/2qybStWdYcs.

As the weather starts to warm up, I am starting to plan some extracurricular activities with our local brethren and their families. Pay attention to Facebook, our website and/or your email for further information. A group outing to a baseball game, fishing trip, dinner theatre and possible bus trip to the Inner Harbor are being tossed around right now. If you have a preference for things you would like to attend, please feel free to email me.

I attended the installation of officers of Calvin A. Lodge Chapter of the Eastern Star. Their Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron also expressed an interest in doing things outside the lodge with our Masonic family. Although the fellowship at the lodge is a special time, there is no reason why we can’t continue that in a more relaxed setting as friends (as well as brothers/sisters).

RW Jim Newcomer has been working hard to find someone to replace the HVAC system of the lodge. I think it may be as old as myself.... but even that seems really old. We have three estimates ranging from $14,700 to $16,900 to replace everything. While we already have $9,000 pledged towards the

replacement from anonymous donors, we still need to come up with the rest before we can proceed with the replacement. If you are able to donate toward the replacement, any amount is appreciated. Trust me when I say that every little bit adds up. Just tag your donation as HVAC so that it goes to the right place. You can remain anonymous or let me sing your praise. Either way, thank you in advance!

Next month we have the pleasure of having the young men of the Demolay coming to our lodge to put on a presentation. All Master Masons are welcome. The presentation will be a play which represents the tragic climax in the career of Jacques DeMolay, the hero and martyr who is the exemplar of the Order.

History has placed upon Philip the Fair of France the brand of Cain for the murder of DeMolay and thousands of brave members of the Order of the Temple, of which DeMolay was the last Grand Master. These events occurred more than seven centuries ago.

Jacques DeMolay and three of his preceptors were subjected to several trials and tortures before the Inquisition. We have been compelled to condense all this into one scene, historically the final hearing before a Commission in its Council Chamber. So much has been crowded into this scene, it is logical to assume that it took place at one or another of the hearings which preceded it.

DeMolay, Geoffrey de Charnay, Godfrey de Goneville and Hughes de Peralde, were condemned to life imprisonment. But so incensed was the king at the noble defiance and defense of DeMolay and Geoffrey

de Charnay, that he overrode the Commission’s verdict and hurried DeMolay and Charnay to the stake on an island near the Cathedral, where they were barbarously burned.

Respectfully and fraternally yours,Jim Solomon

DeMolay1

DeMolay is a youth organization building young men of character and dedicated to making young men better people and leaders. Providing a program based on timeless principles and practical experience,

DeMolay strives to not only create the extraordinary leader, but a leader of character. DeMolays hold themselves to a higher moral standard, striving to constantly improve and be better each and every day.

DeMolay is a youth-led, adult-advised organization in which young men learn to plan, organize, and facilitate their own programs. DeMolays take part in a wide-range of activities, from athletic competitions, to public speaking tournaments, to community service events. All activities are guided by the interests of the local chapter. If you can dream it, you can do it in DeMolay.

DeMolay provides endless fun and friendships that last a lifetime, even with such a serious mission. When he joins DeMolay, he instantly gains over four million brothers across the globe.

A Mason’s WifeFrom active Masons, resolute,

Our wives and families we salute; We surely know the price you pay, Who sit alone while we’re away.

No high degrees on you conferred, In Lodge, your name is seldom heard;

You serve our cause though out of sight, While sitting home alone tonight.

Masonic papers list our names, Awards are given, fit to frame;

But yours is absent...you who strive, To keep our fortitude alive.

You’re part of every helpful deed, On your encouragement we feed;

Without your blessings, how could we, Continue acts of charity?

And so, this poem, we dedicate, To every Master Mason’s mate;

And offer our undying love, Rewards await in Heaven above.

THE CRAFT

Dues Alert Just a few words from the secretary. Please look

at your Dues card. Do you see 2018 on it, if not you probably owe your 2018 dues. I have sent out the second notice to 24 members who owe from 4 years ($440.00) to the current one year ($110.00) this is an incredible amount of dues owed and the Lodge needs these funds to operate. Please take a minute and check to see if you have a current Dues card. Thanking you in advance.

Sincerely and fraternally, Rex Rockhill

Secretary, John A. Lejeiune 350

CommitteesBrethren, we value your opinions, so please let the Worshipful

Master know if you would like to head up a committee or start a new one. Do you see something missing in what we as a lodge are accomplishing? Do you want to see us more visible in the community and know of a great way to accomplish this? We are open for suggestions. Several of our committees are transient and change from year to year. Many of these would benefit from a stable person heading up the committee year after year. If you have some time and would like to make a difference, let us know.

Do you have e-mail? If so please let the secretary, Rex Rockhill know. You can add

your email on the Lodge contact page, that way it goes to both Rex and Jim for receiving the Trestleboard. Also, If you have noticed that you do not receive the Trestleboard any more, please check the email you sent us. If we get an address kicked back to us more than three times, we will delete it.

E-mail will give us the ability to send to you short notices, effective and timely communications, including reminders of meetings and activities. Please remember that failure to let the secretary know of address changes costs the lodge money and it delays any correspondence we would like to send out.

Volunteers neededLawn: If you have the time and don’t mind sweating a little bit,

there are times that the lawn needs to be mowed. We do not pay anyone to mow it. It is just usually a member or two who takes the time to keep our grounds looking groomed. The mower, rake and gas are at the lodge, we just need the manpower to get it done as needed.

Mentors: Many of you remember spending lots of quality time working on the catechism with a coach or mentor whether at the lodge or in a more personal setting. Well it’s time to pay it forward. We are always in need of some dedicated Brothers to teach our up and coming Brothers the finer arts of the catechism. If you need a refresher, WB Jim Solomon or WB Jason Newcomer would be more than willing to go over it with you. No matter where you live or work, there is always a possibility that a new Mason may be in your area and open to meet with you more frequently than once a week.
