John Blair Wells – Love For Learning

John Blair Wells is an avid student of physics. He loves learning about applied physics as well as the history of physics. He is going back to school to become a petroleum engineer, and is looking forward to his future physics classes. Physics is an essential aspect of the mathematical world.

Physics date back to the Ancient World. Ancient Greek intellectuals were the first ones to coin the word physics, and generated some of the earliest writings on the subject. The field of physics was drawn from optics, astronomy, mechanics, and geometry. Hellenistic writers, such as Archimedes and Ptolemy, wrote extensively on these mathematic fields and helped develop the study of physics. Physics were also studied in ancient China and India. Muslin scientists were also developing a study of physics beginning in the 5th century CE.

These early theories and studies are referred to as Classical Physics. These theories obey Galilean relativity, and in terms of quantum mechanics, do not use the quantization paradigm. The branches of theory within Classical Physics include classical mechanics, Newton’s laws of motion, classical Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms, Maxwell’s equations, classical thermodynamics, classical chaos theory, and more.

Modern physics refers to the currently accepted theories and created a major paradigm shift when it was introduced. It is an effort to scientifically understand the underlying processes of the various interactions between matter. These efforts are accomplished by utilizing the tools of engineering and scientific methodologies. Modern physics were developed in the late 19th century and involve quantum mechanics and Einsteinian relativity. These are the theories that John Blair Wells will be studying as he works towards becoming a petroleum engineer.
