A Brief Introduction to Quantum Mechanics
John Blair Wells
Physics is a discipline of human thought that focuses on the interactions betweenproperties within the natural universe, as well as their composition. In physics
today, there are two subsets of mechanics that encompass the behavior of how
everything interacts. The first of these mechanics is the classical one, which explains
using mathematics and theories with a startling degree of accuracy, the behavior of
macroscopic bodies. Quantum mechanics, by comparison, is a fundamental branch
of mechanics that describes the physical properties and phenomena that occurs
when extremely small-scaled interactions occur. The quantum realm is one that is
comprised of atomic and subatomic particles. This infinitesimal scale completely
changes its behavior when concerning the more classical and contemporary studies
of how physical objects, energy, and force exerted all interact with each other

Quantum mechanics is an intriguing and rather new discipline of study for man.
What makes it so remarkable is that much of the behavior that takes place there, is
so distinctly different from the real and observable world that we are so used to.
However, despite being different than what we expect or are used to, quantum
mechanics continues to provide a remarkably accurate description of howelectrons, photons, neutrons, and subatomic particles interact with each other.
Quantum mechanics originally got its name when it was observed that some
physical properties exist, and interact in a probalistic manner, rather than a
deterministic one. This means that they interact based on the probability of a
phenomenon occurring, rather than it happening certainly, which is what we are
used to. Classical mechanics say when we drop a bowling ball, it hits the floor every
time. Quantum mechanics says when we drop the ball, it instantaneously transportsthree-million miles away.
