John Blair Wells: World of Physics

John Blair Wells is a landman and mineral manager operating out of

Texas who has also developed quite a love and interest for the discipline

and science of physics. One of the most prominent figures of ancient

philosophy and physics is a man by the name of Hipparchus. He was a

Greek scientist and mathematician that would focus primarily on

astronomy and the behavior of large celestial bodies. Hipparchus would

use sophisticated and profound geometrical methods in order to help

map the movement of the planets and the stars. His measurements were

so accurate, that he could even correctly predict when a solar eclipse

would occur. He had many other famous calculations, such as calculating

the distance of the Moon and the Sun from Earth, something based on

more refined measuring instruments of the time.

Another prominent Greek physicist was a man by the name of Ptolemy.

He was a prominent scientist during the time of the Roman Empire. Over

the years, Ptolemy would become the author of many works, ones that

would find great relevance in later European and Islamic science. One of

his works, known as the Almagest, was an astronomy work that

described the nature and motions of celestial bodies. The next was the

Geography, which did precisely what it sounds like it did, cover the

extent of geographical knowledge of the Roman world.

Hipparchus and Ptolemy were just two scientists of ancient Greece that

had a powerful impact on the way we view the world of physics today.

John Blair Wells is a petroleum engineer with an insatiable curiosity for

science and physics.
