Congratulations goes out to the boys’ track team for winning the white division at the GMC Relays. Within the contest, the 4x4 team broke a John F. Kennedy Memorial High School record that stood for 48 years. In 1968 Steve Ricciardi, Charlie Carroll, Gary Albersten, and Jim
Cimaglia recorded a time of 3:23.2 in the 1600m relay. This season, Anthony Del Popolo, Thambu Jisnu, Nate Brown, and AJ Moore lowered the mark to an impressive 3:22.86 which places them with two other Kennedy relay teams to qualify for the New Balance Nationals in North Carolina. Congratulations on making history boys!

As the school year comes to a close, we would like to commend the teachers and staff of John F. Kennedy Memorial High School, who have continued to demonstrate their commitment to excellence during the second semester. We consistently examined our instructional practices and school procedures with a focus on impacting student achievement and creating a school climate based on tolerance and acceptance. It’s a time of great excitement for many students as they move to the next grade, or move on to the next chapter in their lives. We would like to congratulate our students, faculty, administrators, parents, and the JFK Memorial High School community for their support and contributions to the following community fund raising projects during the school year:
It is truly an outstanding accomplishment by the JFK community to raise funds for these worthy projects. Once again we have shown the Woodbridge Township Community that we are one of the Best high schools in the State of New Jersey. Both students and faculty are to be commended for their hard work and commitment towards improving our community. Our staff and students are to be congratulated for being recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a “Silver Medal” school, for the 5
th year in a row,
one of only 1962 from among over 21,000 high schools across the United States! John F. Kennedy Memorial High School was ranked #58 out of 444 high schools in New Jersey. Our athletic teams have all performed well during the spring season. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Boys’ Track team on winning the GMC Division Championships. Congratulations also goes out to our Show Choir and Women’s Choir on their 1
st Place Honors in the Parks Music
Festival at Kutztown University. We congratulate all of our students for their hard work in the classroom and beyond. All of their efforts have made this year truly successful. To the graduating Class of 2016, good luck on the path you have chosen after high school. We look forward to learning about all of the wonderful things you will accomplish in future years.

By Mrs. Acuna-Francisco
The JFK Art Show took place on May 5th, over 500 works of art decorated the walls of our school, which included paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures, architectural drawings, and mixed media from Mrs. Ritger’s, Mrs. Madden’s, Mr. Bergin, & Mrs. A’s classes. The Senior AP Art
Studio students displayed the phenomenal work they have been creating all year. Each artist had their own space to create a concept for and display their concentration.
On May 24th, Mrs. Acuna-Francisco’s AP Studio & Art Major students had a full ART excursion in NYC. Students visited the School of Visual Arts, a number of galleries in the Chelsea district,
enjoyed the sculpture gardens of the High Line and ended the day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Students had a wonderful time and were inspired by all the masters and contemporary artists.
Good luck to our Art
Seniors and your future
endeavors, you will be missed
at the Room 134 studio!

National Honor Society Keeps Busy This Spring
By: Mariah Simpson, Secretary It has been a busy but exciting past few months for the members of JFK High School’s National Honor Society! On March 23, 2016 the annual Induction Ceremony occurred where 26 junior members were inducted into their chapter. These 26 members (pictured right) showed exemplary participation in the four pillars of the National Honor Society: leadership, scholarship, service, and character. The ceremony additionally honored the 30 graduating senior members – with members going to colleges including Rutgers University, The University of Southern California, and Duke University.
On April 17, 2016 JFK High School’s National Honor Society junior and senior members attended the annual MS Walk at Oak Ridge Park (pictured above). This three mile walk helped raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. On their own, the National Honor Society raised over $300 to go to the National MS Society of New Jersey. We are very proud of the fundraising that the students did!
On May 23, 2016 the junior and senior members of JFK High School’s National Honor Society visited veterans at the Menlo Park Memorial Home in Edison, NJ (pictured below). The NHS members helped veterans paint rocks to put outside in their garden which was a fun time for all. In addition, the NHS members were educated about the veteran’s experiences through conversation. JFK Sophomore Jarred Tolley skillfully played piano at the Memorial Home for the veterans to enjoy. We will miss our graduating seniors but are
very excited for what is in store for the Class of
2017 chapter of JFK’s National Honor Society!

Business Honor Society Field Trip: A Visit to the Apple Store and a Business Etiquette Luncheon
By: Mrs. Danielle Salsman, Advisor
On Monday April 18th, the Business Honor
Society took
a field trip for
a day of
education
and
enjoyment.
They began
at the Apple
Store at
Menlo Park
Mall where
they attended Digital Marketing Workshop. The
Apple Store employees opened the store early to
the JFKBHS students and lead a lesson (pictured
above) in creating Public Service Announcements
using
iMovie on
the Mac.
The
students
then had
the
remaining
time to film
and create
their PSAs
(pictured
above) on
topics which
ranged from
shoplifting, to
STEM, to
pollution.
The students
got a flash
drive
wristband on which to download their finished PSAs
to take home. They also got a t-shirt and a certificate
upon completion of the workshop.
Following the workshop, the Business Honor Society students walked to the Macaroni Grill for a private business luncheon hosted by Maria Joyce of The Protocol School of New Jersey. Maria engaged the students discussing proper dining etiquette in a business setting (pictured above). She covered topics ranging from greetings and place settings to continental dining and appropriate conversation. The students were able to learn a lot from Ms. Joyce and enjoyed a delicious meal as well! Overall the students had a great day, and the time with the Apple Store and The Protocol School of New Jersey was a great learning experience.

JFK Juniors Elected To Prestigious Boys State 2016
By: Mrs. Alison Kirk, Guidance Congratulations to Umang Patel, Mohmoadsani Manjara, and Alexandar Moore on being selected as delegates of the 2016 American Legion Jersey Boys State and Girls State Program. The boys were selected by Post 471 through a rigorous review of their community activism, academic record, and interview. Candidates must display principles of leadership, character, patriotism and service. This year marks the American Legion’s 71
th annual session of Boys
State, a selective and fast-paced mock government and youth leadership conference. Beginning at Rider University on June 19th, American Legion Boys State is a prestigious program in which students will have the opportunity to govern and interact with some of the top New Jersey high school juniors and run their own mythical state. The delegates will learn about real-life issues affecting our society today and brainstorm
solutions with their peers. They will also hear from a variety of guest speakers such as councilmen, mayors, freeholders, county executives, assemblymen, senators, and governors. Our high-achieving juniors were selected to attend the 2016 Boys State conference for their combination of extracurricular leadership, academic aptitude, and genuine interest in political science. Congratulations to these JFK stars on this spectacular achievement!

Senior a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program
By: Mrs. Alison Kirk, Guidance
The John F. Kennedy Guidance Department
is proud to announce that senior David Tian has
been honored as a Finalist in the 2015 National
Merit Scholarship Program. The National
Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic
competition for recognition and scholarships
that began in 1955. High school students enter
the National Merit Program by taking the
Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar ship
Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)—a test which
serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5
million entrants each year–and by meeting
published program entry/participation
requirements. It is no surprise David has come
so far in this elite competition. David’s stellar
transcript reflects success in the most
challenging courses available at our high
school, and will have completed 16 AP courses
by his June graduation.
A National AP Scholar, David’s competitive
resume includes participation In Governor’s
School for Engineering and Technology at Rider
University and an array of leadership activities.
More specifically, he leads our Senior Class and
Math Team as president. His resume also
includes the office of Treasurer of National
Honors Society and a member of both Spanish
and Science Honors Societies. David has
displayed athletic talents both in the pool as a
member of our varsity swim team for several
consecutive seasons and has participated on
our volleyball team.
There seems to be no limit to David’s
accomplishments and potential for collegiate
success. We wish him all the best for continued
success as he majors in computer science at
Rutgers University this fall.

JFK Choirs Have a Busy and Successful Spring
By: Ms. Christine Scott, Director Thank you to everyone that came to our Spring Concert on Thursday, May 19 - it was night full of excellent performances, including a beautiful send-off for our seniors. Congrats to all singers involved and thanks to student accompanists Nate Brown and Angel Sanchez Pena. The JFK Chorus gave a joint performance with the Iselin Middle School Choir at their Spring Concert on
Thursday, May 12. Their performance of the South African folk song “Siyahamba” was powerful, with nearly 200 singers performing! Thanks to Mr. Tamashausky and the IMS Choir for inviting us. The JFK Concert Choir’s annual Egg Hunt took place on Saturday, March 19. Fun was had by all! Nearly 500 families from the community came to take part in the festivities. This years’ Bagel Thursday sales have also been a success, thanks to our regular customers and our new partnership with Knot Just Bagels. Sales have ended for the year. The Concert Choir will be using funds acquired for a trip to NYC on Saturday, June 11 - itinerary includes a sightseeing lunch cruise, Madame Tussaud’s
Wax Museum, Ellen’s Stardust Diner (with singing waitstaff) and tickets to see
Aladdin on Broadway. The JFK Chamber Choir, JFK’s most elite singing group, performed at Woodbridge Township Education Foundation’s Excellence in Education Dinner alongside the IMS Select Choir on March 16. They also performed at the Middlesex County Education Association’s Black Tie Gala on

community performances from this group in the future! The JFK Show Choir performed in the Music in the Parks festival at Dorney Park on Saturday, May 14 with stunning results - the group earned 1
st place in its division, earning
a superior rating, the “Best Overall Choir” award and a perfect score of 100. The Show Choir has not earned a superior rating in nearly 6 years and, according to the emcee of the competition, no group has ever achieved a perfect score of 100 in the history of the
competition itself. We are very proud of the Show Choir’s achievements! This group also recently performed at the Evergreen Senior Center for the Senior Center Volunteer Luncheon on May 25. The JFK Women’s Choir, JFK’s newest ensemble, also performed in the Music in the Parks festival on Saturday, May 14. This group rehearsed a total of 5 times prior to the competition. In this group’s first public performance, they scored 1
st place in their
division, with a superior rating and a score of 95.5. We can expect great things from this ensemble next year!

French Honor Society Has a “Fun-Filled Year”
By: Sydney MCGowan, President It's been a fun-filled year for the 2015-2016 chapter of the French Honor Society. Advised by Mrs. McCann with help from seniors: Laila Abbas, and Priyanka Bansal, as well as juniors Sydney McGowan, and Uzma Mohammed, the FHS succeeded in creating multiple cultural appreciation events for the community of Woodbridge. Most commendable are the visit to The Golden Circle Seniors group in Avenel, the crafts students prepared for Easter celebration for staff and for the children at Our Lady of Peace church, and the upcoming French Fair at Iselin Middle School. The visit with the senior citizens took place in February, 2016. The students of the FHS put together different stations in order to educate the seniors on various aspects of French culture. Two crowd favorites were the dance station, where members taught the senior citizens a short dance to a song by the popular French singer Stromae, and the bingo station, where players sought to guess the meaning of various French words based on similarities between English and French. At the end of the visit, when members and seniors sat down to sample an assortment of French foods, the consensus was that the FHS members
would definitely be welcomed back anytime. The seniors even wished them "au revoir" as they left to show off their newly learned French skills! Our organization’s last big event for the year is happening at Iselin Middle School on June 2nd. The French Fair has been a tradition for several years now, and is always the highlight of the year for the students enrolled in the French program. Many current members of FHS actually experienced the French Fair during their middle school years, and now are working hard to ensure the current 8
th graders receive the same
experience they did. With stations ranging from French skits to art in francophone countries, to crêpe-making, the students at the middle school are truly in for a treat.
It is clear that because the undeterred efforts of everyone involved in our group, from our advisor: Mrs. McCann to our hard-working members, Kennedy's French Honor Society has succeeded in spreading French culture throughout Woodbridge Township. As the school year winds down, already plans for next year's members have cropped up. One thing is for
sure: the FHS will continue on its path of cultural appreciation and education to all members of our community.

An Eventful Year for the JFK American Cancer Club
By: Mrs. Nichole Lesniak, Advisor
The 2015-2016 school year was an eventful one for the Kennedy American Cancer Society Club! Along with our usual bake sales, we held a few fantastic fundraisers to raise awareness and some funds to pass on to the American Cancer Society. In the fall, the club ran a “Guess How Many Kisses” contest. For just $1, students could guess how many Hershey kisses were in a jar. The winner, senior Shivani Desai, won all the kisses, as well as an Amazon gift card. Then, just in time for Christmas, we sold porcelain an-gel-wing ornaments for $2 each. They were the perfect way to honor the memory of those we have lost to cancer. And finally, in honor of Val-entine’s Day, we sold tins of mini-mints. All-in-all, the club managed to raise nearly $800. We are incredibly thankful to the students and faculty here at JFK for their generosity and continued support. We would not be nearly so successful without all of you!
I would also like to take this time to thank and bid a fond farewell to our club officers, Ash-ley Conroy, Nabihah Amatullah, Harshil Patel (pictured left) and Claudia Valverde (not pic-tured). This club would not exist without the four of you, and it was your hard work and inspiration that has made us what we are. Additionally, I want to thank all of the seniors who helped out this year (pictured above), but most of all Zia Bedi, Connor Freeman and Stephanie Hutton – you were instrumental in all of our successes. We will miss you next year, but wish all of you nothing but the best in the future. Remember that great things come from humble beginnings.
Looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year, next year’s group has some big shoes to fill! Taking over as President and Vice President will be Ranjeeka Sharma and Anna Akbar, re-spectively. We will hold elections in the fall to fill the positions of Treasurer and Secretary. Hope-fully, we will have continued success in raising money to combat the plague that is Cancer.

Boys’ Varsity Tennis Has “Rebuilding” Season
By: Coach Sharon DiLonardo The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team entered the 2016 season knowing that it would be considered a rebuilding year. Kennedy finished the 2015 season with a record of 8 wins – 13 losses and graduated 3 seniors from the starting line-up. The Mustangs were now faced with an entire new line-up, but were prepared to meet the upcoming challenges. A week before the season try-out began, returning Varsity singles player, Junior Siddhant Pathare, suffered a knee dislocation injury in Physical Education class. The injury sidelined Sidd for essentially the entire season as Sidd attended physical therapy with the hopes of returning to the line-up. The main goal of this season for the Mustangs was focused on player development and improvement. Faced with developing a solid singles line-up, many players stepped up and battled for the top three singles positions. The Mustangs were led by Senior Mathujan Yogarajah, moving up to the 1st singles position and compiling an individual season record of 4 wins – 15 losses. Junior Veer Kachhiapatel broke into the Varsity line-up earning the 2nd singles position posting a record of 10 wins – 9 losses. Junior Sameer Ahmad moved up from last year’s 2nd doubles position to fill the 3rd singles spot and set a mark of 9 wins – 8 losses. Returning Varsity player Senior Kunal Vanjani combined with new Varsity player junior Darshal Shah at 1st doubles to post a record of 8 wins – 9 losses. The 2nd doubles duo of Juniors Kedar Jani and newcomer Thamarat Singcharoenchai rounded out the line-up and set the best individual record for the team with 11 wins – 5 losses. Also seeing Varsity action was Senior transfer Prem Patel along with Sophomores Savan Patel and Brian Rose. The Mustangs were very happy to see Sidd work hard in his recovery and play in the last Varsity match of the season. The Mustangs started the season strong with wins over St. Joe’s and Colonia. By the end of the first two weeks of the season, the Mustangs had an even mark of 3 wins – 3 losses. It took a few matches for the line-up to gel and get on the winning track. The boys went on to win the next 7 matches in a row.
The Mustangs were competitive in every match, but hit a couple bumps in the road and suffered some disappointing losses to strong teams as the season came to a close. Despite the frustration of those matches, the Mustangs remained positive and determined throughout the season. The Mustangs were able to demonstrate a total team effort en route to four team wins recorded as 5-0 shut-out victories. Kennedy concluded the 2016 season with a GMC White Division record of 8 wins – 8 losses and a winning season record of 10 wins – 9 losses. The winning tradition continues! The season was a positive learning experience with many new players breaking into the starting line-up and several players learning the skills and
challenges of a new position. Our focus now is taking the lessons learned this season as we look towards the future to build our program. With six players returning in the line-up for next season, the future is bright for the Mustangs. Losing two seniors from the Varsity line-up, the Mustangs have a talented group of underclassmen ready to compete for a

Kennedy Boys Track & Field Season Wrap-Up By: Coach Robert Herre
The boys track and field team had a very successful season maintaining the winning tradi-tion established at Kennedy. The white division winner is decided based on the records the teams post in their dual meets. This was a goal for our team and we went out and met it. We opened with an away meet at Perth Amboy where we had impressive marks posted on the track that day by Anthony Del Popolo, Thambu Jisnnu, Nate Brown and AJ Moore. Andrew Roberts led in points in the field events for our team. This close matchup came down to the last event where Deandre Carter cleared 6 feet in the high jump securing the Mustang victory. Next we faced off against Edison high school in a home meet. The boys team, who still have not lost on the new track installed a couple of years ago, had a lot to live up to. Del Popolo posted in-credible performances yet again in his four events, hurdling twice, running the 200m dash, and running as a part of our relay team. The boys walked away with another win in the divi-sion. After that, we hosted North Brunswick in a lob-sided victory, 98-42. This time, Roberts was our leading point getter with a perfect 20-points registered in the events he competed in. He was able to take first place in two jumping events, the 100m dash, and the javelin throw. Moore was second that day in points and we brought home
a great team-win overall. The climax of the divisional chase took place at Monroe where our boys and their boys both entered undefeated. Cristian Cardosa was able to steal a few points in the shot put facing a very strong and deep throwing squad from Monroe. Mamadou Ndome cleared a personal best of 11’6” in the pole vault after running an impres-sive open 400m dash. Our 4x400m relay team was a much-awaited spectacle for the crowd there and won in decisive manner. After a nail-biting evening, Roberts and Carter solidified the Mustang victory in the high jump once again.
The boys track team headed out to the Rock-et Relays in Raritan to start the season. In the pouring rain, many boys ran impressive races including some personal records. Del Popolo, Jissnu, Brown, Harvey Aberin, and Moore all brought home first place medals. The next invitational we went to was the Husky Relays in Ma-tawan. Once again fighting the inclement weather, the Mustangs were able to go in and
win the entire meet. Sam Senatore, Rahual Mahju, Mamadou Ndome, Devlin Sayles, and Danish Mansoori joined the usual suspects in medal winning performances that day. The first place victory, out of seventeen boys’ teams pre-sent, got the rest of the GMC talking. At the East Brunswick invitational Adeesh Bhat and David Wells obtained their first medals of the season while Armani Carrington picked up his second in the long jump. Afterwards, the boys traveled to Colts Neck for their big meet

Kennedy Boys Track & Field (Continued) where we came home with 23 medals in total. Roberts, Moore, and Del Popolo each came home with 4 medals for the 4 events they com-peted in. One of the many highlights of our season came at our second annual Mustang Invitational. The boys set the bar high last year by winning the whole thing and we knew we could not be outdone this year. Eleven different boys med-aled for us that day including a new meet record set by Del Popolo in the 400m intermediate hur-dles. Four medals each once again for Del Popolo and Moore and we were the talk of the town with how well our meet operated.
After, we went out to South Brunswick for the GMC Relays where we were able to win the divi-sional relay plaque. The most important race of the day for us was the 4x400m relay where Del Popolo, Jisnnu, Brown, and Moore broke a 48 year-old school record with a time that qualified them for New Balance Nationals (NBN) in North Carolina. Del Popolo, Moore, Sayles, and Rob-erts had also previously qualified for the 800m sprint medley at NBN as well as Del Popolo, Moore, Brown, and Sayles in the 1600m sprint medley. These accomplishments do not happen very often and is something the entire town should recognize.

Mustang Varsity Golf Shows Improvement
By: Coach Joseph Kirk The Mustang Varsity Golf team finished their season with a 6-14 record. As with any team, the expectation is to see improvement from the beginning to end. That was the case with the 2016 Golf team; their scores lowered as a team and on an individual basis from start to end. Players competing in varsity matches for the team were: Wyatt Emme, Ian Smith, Matt Clark, James Hart, Pritish Nayak, Alex Wolferman, and Russell Van Liew. The highlight of the season was beating rival Woodbridge High School both times we played them. Senior leadership was an integral part of this team. Seniors Wyatt
Emme and Ian Smith were very dedicated and great leaders for a team mostly made up of underclassmen.

Lady Mustangs Softball Shows Improvement
By: Coach Maureen Gallagher
The Lady Mustangs Softball team finished the season 10-14. The coaching staff was very happy to see the improvement over the last 2 seasons. This season brought some ups and downs, as any season does. But some of our high points were very high. The Lady Mustangs defeated ranked
Bishop Ahr 4-2 to start a winning streak that last 2 weeks. The Mustangs then went on to beat cross town rivals the Patriots of Colonia in a thrilling 2-1 game in front of softball alumni from the last 30 years. The team will miss seniors Skylar Keller, Emily Velez and Clare Lewis. Their hard work and determination will help them be successful in all of their future endeavors.
