PRENDERGAST SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE DAY With summer fast approaching, below are some ideas for ways to help your son or daughter continue to learn over the sum-mer.

Take a visit to the library - The Anso-nia Library has a variety of activities planned for the summer, arts and crafts, story hour, and a magic show are just some of the events that are be-ing planned. Contact the library at 203-734-6275 for more info.

Play games - Board and dice games are an excellent way to practice math skills over the summer months. Games like Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Dominoes are a great way to practice math during a summer rain storm.

Have students keep a journal - By hav-ing students write about what they did every few days reinforces good writing habits. If your son or daughter doesn’t like writing, have them draw pictures and write a word to describe it.

Take a family field trip to the Ansonia Nature Center- The Nature Center of-fers many free or low cost activities such as Guided Hikes, Creature Fea-tures, Fishing activities and much more. Contact the Nature Center at 203-736-1053 for more info.

Let your child be the chef - Pick up a cook book and have your son or daughter choose the recipe for the evening. Have them go through the ad-vertisements to find items on sale and take a trip to the grocery store. Have students use the recipe to determine quantities. This reinforces literacy and math skills.

Lastly, have your child read daily. Daily reading is an integral key to prevent a backslide over the summer.

New Uniform Policy for Next Year

The BOE voted last month to change the dress code policy to a more strict uniform policy. The uniform will consist of a polo shirt in

navy, white, or carolina blue with the An-sonia Charger logo embroidered on the left chest.

Pants will be “Dockers” style in either navy or khaki.

Shorts, skorts and capris will also be al-lowed in navy or khaki.

The shirts will be available from On Time Printing located on Rt. 34 and online. The chil-dren’s embroidered polo shirts will cost only $7.00. More information will follow, but we wanted to alert parents so that they did not purchase clothes for next year yet.

Freddy Hubbard, brother of Catherine Hubbard was honorary foreman for the playground construction.
