Stewardship

A Way of Life

This Week’s Readings

The US Bishops’ pastoral on stewardship reinforces today’s reading from 1 Cornithians: “Because its individual members do collectively make up the Body of Christ, that body’s health and well-being are the responsibility of the members—the personal responsibility of each of us. We are all stewards of the Church.

In Living Stewardship

We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who invite a new family in town to supper, actively celebrating a corporal work of mercy as they provide welcome to a stranger.

5 THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Principal’s

Announcements

Almighty Father, You sent forth your Son for all people. As

Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the importance of education. As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength. Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who have dedicated their lives in service to St. Agnes Cathedral School. Thank you for the teachers who sustain our school today. Thank you for the parents who have given support and witness to the importance of Catholic education in their daily lives. Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education. Bless St. Agnes Cathedral School and the many people who advance our mission. May our building be a home for those who seek to grow in faith, knowledge, and service of others. May our community always support one another and exhibit hospitality to newcomers. Amen The national weeklong celebration of Catholic Schools begins today. This year our theme is St. Agnes Cathedral School: Putting Our Faith Into Action. St. Agnes Cathedral School has educated thousands of children in the Catholic faith and academics for over 100 years! Below please find the schedule of events for the week. Sunday, Jan. 27th - Opening Mass at 9:30 a.m. All Students to attend in uniform. Mrs. Cecilia St. John Principal

From the Rector—

Dear Parishioners:

January 27th is the start of Catholic Schools

Week. This week’s bulletin contains information about the school’s Open House, registration for the school and other events that will be taking place during this special week. Further information about the school is also available on the school website. (A link on the parish website [stagnescathedral.org] can take you there in seconds.)

I especially encourage parents of elementary

school children to consider St. Agnes as an option for your children. The opportunity that St. Agnes provides for a superior education is attested to by the results of standardized testing as well as the number of scholarships that are given to our graduates for Catholic high school. For example, the scholarships offered to our 2019 graduating class (including a full scholarship to Marymount Academy and Regis High School in Manhattan) are over $640,000.

Beyond the “reading, writing and arithmetic”

as well as the technology, science and art, however, are the faith and values that our school imparts to our students. I am particularly conscious of the culture that surrounds us today. I am continually struck how today, in our post-modern age, Catholic schools help a child to have values and beliefs that allow them to be in the world today but not “of” the world with its values and beliefs.

This is truly what sets St. Agnes apart from

other schools. Faith and values are not subjects that are covered in one or two periods of the day, but permeate who we are as a school and provide a foundation that will last a lifetime.

Please feel free to speak with me should you

have any questions or call the school and speak to our Principal, Mrs. Cecilia St John.

May God bless our school has we celebrate the

past 100 years and begin our second 100 years.

In the Peace and Love of Christ,

Father Bill
