From the Pastor’s Desk: Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. This Feast helps us come face to face with the inner mystery of God as a family of persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In this relationship there’s com-plete harmony, unconditional love and total peace. This mystery of the Trinity may seem to “remote” for us to understand, but Scripture tells us very simply: we are children of God the Father who cares for us, in Jesus we have a brother who died for us and in the Holy Spirit we have a friend who strengthens and protects us when we are in danger.

The Holy Trinity is an invitation to discover and deepen our relationship with God. All of us have been created in God’s image and likeness and within the depth of our soul there’s a longing to be like Him; weather we realize it or not. Our goal in life should be to attain Heaven and see God as He really is. We do that by trying our best to imitate Him while on this earth.

However, to come to an awareness of our true dignity as children of God demands a great deal of work and effort. Holiness of life doesn’t come easy, especially in the world of today. Holiness requires us to let go of eve-rything that binds us to this world. We need to be very careful we don’t fall into the lure of false gods of mon-ey, power, prestige, selfishness and greed. The generosi-ty of the Father in sending His only Son into the world as our Lord and Savior is in direct contrast with all forms of human selfishness and greed.

God is the deepest mystery of our lives and is infi-nitely more expansive than our human minds are capa-ble of understanding completely. If we had been left on our own at birth to understand God we would never have known He’s a God of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger and rich in mercy. Without the help of Jesus, through the Sacraments and the Church, how would we have ever known we are linked as brothers and sisters to God our Father?

Because God loves us and wants us to return that love, He offers us a share in His own life; He offers us His only Son, the Risen Christ, to make a home within our hearts. If we let Christ into our hearts then certainly we will mirror the life of the Holy Trinity. From the mo-ment we were Baptized in the name of the three persons of the Holy Trinity, we pledged to live our lives under their protection and guidance and to do everything in their name so, when life is over, we shall go to meet them and live in their company forever.

But for all this to happen we need to listen to the Spirit inspiring us and drawing us forward in search of the truth. We need to listen to God’s call and do our best to be like Him in every situation. Let us pray God will grant us understanding to realize how much He loves us through the Holy Trinity. God Bless, Fr. Carusi

8 Ways to Honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus in June at Home

Each of the 12 months of the year has a Catholic devotional theme. It’s a great way to bring special traditions, symbols, colors and even foods to enrich our faith life at home. During this time so many of us are self-quarantined and face restrictions in public places, including our churches, the rich traditions and treasures of our faith provide spe-cial and reassuring blessings.

June is the month of the Sacred Heart. Here are 8 ways you can make your home come alive with love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus. START YOUR MORNING WITH THE SON: For the entire month, do the morning offering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Leave it near your bedside, pasted on your bathroom mirror, or at the breakfast table so you remember to say it first thing in the morning: O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in un-ion with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in repa-ration for my sins, for the intentions of all our associates, and in par-ticular for the intentions of our Holy Father for this month.

DECORATE YOUR TABLE: Set the table or a prominent place in your home with an image of the Sacred Heart and a candle or bouquet of flowers as a constant visual reminder of devotion. PUT YOUR HEART INTO IT: Do a Sacred Heart craft with your kids. Here’s an easy one: get a grapevine wreath resembling the crown of thorns and place in the center of your kitchen or dining table. Make a large heart out of construction paper to place in the middle of the wreath. Upon the heart, each member of the fami-ly writes a prayer intention and/or a work of mercy they will offer to the Sacred Heart all month. You can also just write your prayer intentions or offerings on a paper heart and place before your image of the Sacred Heart. COOK FOR THE KING: Make food in honor of the Sacred Heart. Here’s an easy one: prepare or purchase cupcakes and then top with strawberries cut in the shape of a heart. To make the recipe even more devoted to the Sacred Heart, try making them red velvet cupcakes. OFFER SPECIAL PRAYERS TO THE SACRED HEART: Pray one of the many beautiful Sacred Heart prayers. As part of grace before meals you might try adding a brief but beautiful prayer such as Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus or pray a Novena to the Sacred Heart before sleep. PARTICIPATE IN EUCHARISTIC ADORATION ONLINE: Participate in a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Ado-ration online or on television as a way to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus as present in the Eucharist. This is a great way to increase not only faith, hope and love … but also peace, freedom from anxiety, and comfort in your own heart. SET YOUR ALARM FOR 3 P.M.: That’s the hour of Divine Mercy, a devotion inexorably linked to the Sa-cred Heart of Jesus, as it reminds us of the outpourings of Jesus’ heart, with these words, “O blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in you.” Purpose to pray the Di-vine Mercy chaplet every day this month at 3:00 PM, the hour Jesus died for us. It’s such a beautiful devotion that it will likely remain a favorite of yours long after June is over. MAKE A SACRED HEART GARDEN: This is a wonderful activity for the whole family. In front of an out-door statue of the Sacred Heart, a garden sculpture of a heart, or even a homemade stepping stone with a heart traced in the concrete, plant flowers that honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Flowers for a Sacred Heart garden could include a display of any blooms in red and orange tones. Dicentra, commonly known as “Bleeding Heart,” has a string of heart-shaped blooms that are a symbolic image of sacrificial love. Roses symbolize love and the crown of thorns, so they would be a great choice. Other beautiful choices to honor Jesus include the “Star of Bethlehem” flower and Caladium, also known as “heart of Jesus.”

Prayers to make a Spiritual Communion?

Prayer of St. Alphonsus Liguori: My Jesus, I believe that Thou art present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love Thee above all things and I desire Thee in my soul. Since I cannot now re-ceive Thee sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though Thou wert already there, I embrace Thee and unite myself wholly to Thee; permit not that I should ever be sepa-rated from Thee. Amen.

Spiritual Communion Prayer: As I cannot this day enjoy the happiness of assisting at the holy Mysteries, O my God! I transport myself in spirit at the foot of Thine altar; I unite with the Church, which by the hands of the priest, offers Thee Thine adorable Son in the Holy Sac-rifice; I offer myself with Him, by Him, and in His Name. I adore, I praise, and thank Thee, imploring Thy mercy, invoking Thine assistance, and presenting Thee the homage I owe Thee as my Creator, the love due to Thee as my Savior. Apply to my soul, I beseech Thee, O merci-ful Jesus, Thine infinite merits; apply them also to those for whom I particularly wish to pray. I desire to communicate spiritually, that Thy Blood may purify, Thy Flesh strengthen, and Thy

Spirit sanctify me. May I never forget that Thou, my divine Redeemer, hast died for me; may I die to all that is not Thee, that hereafter I may live eternally with Thee. Amen

Prayer to the Most Holy Redeemer (Anima Christi): Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, embolden me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me. Within thy wounds hide me. Never permit me to be parted from you. From the evil Enemy defend me. In the hour of my death call me. And bid me come to thee, that with your saints I may praise thee for age upon age. Amen.

Prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ Crucified: Behold, O good and loving Jesus, that I cast myself on my knees before you and, with the greatest fervor of spirit, I pray and beseech you to instill into my heart ardent sentiments of faith, hope and charity, with true repentance for my sins and a most firm purpose of amendment. With deep affection and sorrow I ponder intimately and contemplate in my mind your five wounds, having before my eyes what the prophet David had already put in your mouth about yourself, O good Jesus: They have pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered all my bones (Ps. 21: 17-18).

St. Anthony of Padua Feast Day: June 13th

St. Anthony of Padua is one of the Catholic Church’s most popular saints. St. Anthony, patron saint of lost and stolen articles, was a powerful Franciscan preacher and teacher. He’s typically portrayed holding the child Jesus—or a lily—or a book—or all three—in his arms. Many people give alms to St. Antho-ny Bread in thanksgiving to God for blessings received through the prayers of St. Anthony.

St. Anthony of Padua’s life is what every Christian’s life is meant to be; a steady courage to face the ups and downs of life, the call to love and forgive, to be concerned for the needs of others, to deal with crisis great and small, and to have our feet solidly on the ground of total trusting love and dependence on God.

St Anthony is beloved throughout the world and is responsive to all people and all needs. His intercessory powers before our God are awesome.

Prayer of St. Anthony

“Sweet Jesus, is there anything sweeter than you? To remember you is more delightful than everything else. Your name is joy; it is the true gate of our salvation. What else are you, Jesus, if not our Savior? Be our Re-deemer. Give us the virtues of hope and love, just as you have given us faith, our primary joy. Give us the words that we need to praise you always. With the help and through the prayers of your mother. You who are blessed throughout the ages. Amen.”

Mass for St. Anthony will be at 8:00 AM on Saturday, June 13th.

Novena Prayers and Litany in Honor of St. Anthony immediately following Mass.
