Dear Parents/ Caregivers Tēnā koutou katoa, ni hao, konnichiwa, good afternoon OUR TOWN PRODUCTION I wish to commend Mrs Gabrielle Thurston and her team on a magnificent season of 'Our Town’. It won high praise from those who attended. The reviews in the papers were also highly complementary: a flawless performance by the cast, outstanding costumes and a fantastic message for the audiences. PUNCTUALITY Being punctual to school is not only in the best interests of your child’s learning, it is an important life discipline. Employers won’t accept lateness. Turning up late to official functions and social occasions is perceived as rude and a sign of being disorganised. Many of our students are late to school without a reasonable excuse which frustrates teachers and disadvantages your child’s progress. We would appreciate you talking to your child about the importance of punctuality and supporting staff who may need to speak to your children when they are not punctual. Part of our success story comes from the very close cooperation between parents and teachers. Well done JPC – Gabrielle Thurston HoD Drama Congratulations to ex JPC student, Sam Osborne, who recently won the Xterra Pan Am Mexico off-road triathlon men’s event. It's the 12th career XTERRA World Tour win for Sam and his fifth this season out of six races, "I couldn’t be happier," said Osborne, who increased his lead in the Tour standings with the win. "I had a half decent swim, but everyone is a good swimmer here, so I needed to ride as hard as possible." The event was the 8th of 10 stops on the XTERRA Pan American Tour, and an important gold race that helped shape the leaderboard heading into the final two stops at XTERRA Dominican Republic before the finale in Utah on September 7.

What a weekend of rugby, the return of the Mitre 10 Cup, the All Blacks faltering to the Wallabies and JPC 1st XV making the final for the BOPSS 1st Division Competition for successive years. Last year they went on to win the competition and this weekend they will travel to Rugby Park in Whakatane to play Trident for the title. It is there for the taking again and they will be up for the challenge!

The U14’s were up against RBHS to firm up there place in the finals of the Championship Division. Down on players they had to rejig their roster which meant a few boys played in unfamiliar positions. They played well and hung in for most of the game however RBHS finished well, beating JPC 32 -17. They will have a semi-final this weekend against opponents TBC. With the return of a two key players the semi-final is there for the taking and the boys are looking forward to the challenge.

The 1st XV played Tauhara in their semi-final and like the previous two games this season were separated by 1 point. The JPC boys were hammered in the opening 15 minutes with Tauhara throwing everything at the JPC team. JPC held strong and managed to turn the tables, opening with a well taken try in the corner to Kyle August. The game was being played at a frenetic pace and both teams were looking for opportunities. JPC gained the next points, scoring another try to take a 10 nil lead into half time. Both halftime talks were frank and to the point, this was going to be the last 35 minutes of the 2019 season for one team. Tauhara came out fizzing again and were back to their old tricks of throwing everything at JPC. Again JPC held strong and scored another try to go out to 15 – nil lead. Tauhara then managed to score a converted try and get their tails up. Tauhara had a player red carded after a scuffle under their posts. This gave Tauhara more incentive and they managed to make JPC nervous with scoring another two tries. JPC had converted a couple of penalties and were 21 – 12 up with 3 minutes to play. Some resolute defence by JPC could not hold out the Tauhara team with them scoring another try in the last play of the game. JPC taking the 21 – 19 result to book their place in the final next weekend.

JPC Rugby would like to thank the JPC community and the Board of Trustees for their support this season.
