Year of birth: 1966 Nationality: British John is one of the UK’s most experienced Demolition Directors having been in this business since leaving school in 1982, qualifying as a Member of The Institution of Demolition, with over 33 years demolition experience, 16 of them at Director level. John has completed two terms of two years each as Chairman of the Northern Region of the NFDC and presently is the Region’s Representative on the National Council of the NFDC. John has delivered every type of project and lead the company to being given the highest accolade of “Demolition Specialist of the Year” in 2014 at the national Construction News’ Awards.

CAREER HISTORY 33 years experience in the following areas, working from Labourer to Managing Director:
33 years’ experience in estimating, pricing and supervising demolition and earthworks contracts.
Experience of surveying sites for asbestos insulation, insulation sample taking, asbestos stripping techniques and all aspects concerned with asbestos removal.
Thompsons of Prudhoe Ltd. Director & Managing Director Duties include the following responsibilities:-
Ensure that the requirements of all applicable legislation are observed and met, and that all other approved codes of practice and guidance notes governing the works of buildings, civil engineering, construction and demolition are observed. Provide adequate resources to meet these legislative requirements
Ensure that responsibilities are properly assigned to all members of the workforce and that these responsibilities are accepted by those concerned. Give all site managers and foremen precise instructions on their responsibilities, ensure that they adhere to the correct working methods, and see that they do not allow operatives to take unnecessary risks.
Directly responsible for putting into effect the company health & safety policy requirements and to publicly support and participate in the Company Safety Policy and recommend amendments as necessary to ensure that all current safety requirements are met.
Manager Duties included the following responsibilities:-
Organised company sites so that work was carried out to the appropriate standard with minimum risk to men, equipment and materials. Demonstrated a sound working knowledge of relevant legislation and approved codes of practice, including company policies and requirements. Ensured that statutory registers and records were correctly maintained, and that all relevant legislation, codes of practice and company rules were complied with.
Demolition Supervisor Duties included the following responsibilities:-
Provided constant supervision, information and instruction to employees, including the induction of new starters and sub-contractors. Ensured that all employees are fully conversant with requirements relevant to health and safety.
Planed and maintained safe, tidy, and effective sites. Ensured that all plant and machinery, including power and hand tools, were maintained and used in a safe manner, and that staff were trained to a suitable level.
Burner operative Duties included the following responsibilities:-
Worked as a Topman level oxy/propane burner operative on various demolition & dismantling contracts, including the safe and controlled hand demolition and pre-weakening of structures.
Worked to health & safety legislation, guidance and company procedures / safe working practices. Labourer on various contracts Duties included the following responsibilities:-
Acquired a sound working knowledge of the demolition industry, with experience in all types of demolition, dismantling, plant removal, decontamination, soft-stripping & service disconnection.
Worked safely and effectively as part of a team of operatives on a variety of contracts.
