THE MISSION: The mission of the Illinois Gaming Board is to regulate the riverboat gambling and video gaming industry in Illinois thoroughly and effectively. The Board’s staff conducts audit, legal, enforcement, investigative, operational and financial analysis activities to ensure the integrity of riverboat and video gambling in Illinois as mandated by the Acts. The Board ensures the integrity of the gambling operations through the regulatory oversight and the licensing of gaming operations and personnel. In 1990 the Riverboat Gambling Act was enacted and the Illinois Gaming Board was formed. The first riverboat opened in Alton, Illinois in September, 1991. There are currently 10 riverboats operating in the State of Illinois. In 2009, the Video Gaming Act was enacted and gave the Board authority over video gaming in bars, truck stops, fraternal and veterans organizations. Video gaming is currently live in over 5700 licensed locations throughout the State.
