Barbados is undertaking an amendment to its Physical Development Plan (PDP). The draft PDP Amendment addresses major issues and opportunities including land scarcity for agriculture and future large-scale residential subdivisions, transport challenges, preparing for climate change, transitioning to a green economy and protecting cultural heritage. The draft PDP Amendment is available for review and comment at www.townplanning.gov.bb/pdp and at the Town and Country Development Planning Office, Block C, The Garrison, St. Michael Tel. 535-3000.

Re: Draft White Paper
The general theme of the White Paper which focuses on the scarcity of land, water and food represents the level of challenges which face Barbados today. If these challenges are addressed through relevant policies, then the path to sustainability will be more secure. It is also agreed that the amendment to the Physical Development Plan (PDP) will be both transformational and foundational. The amendment is also coming at a time when some of the themes from the Habitat III conference may be adopted. The Emerging Sustainable Cities Initiative has also provided us with a large body of current data and information. The White Paper provides very good information on the unsustainable practice of subdividing land over the last thirty (30) years and the impact it has had on arable agricultural land. Urban Strategies Inc. may proceed with the finalisation of the “White Paper”.
Yours faithfully,
Mark Cummins Chief Town Planner
