Spiritual Directions Update
Coach’s Report
June 17, 2014
A lot is happening behind the scenes as I work with you toward accomplishing the five recommendations.
Redevelopment Task Force Actions
Recommendation # 3 is the charge for the redevelopment task force. It states:
Begin immediately to re-develop all ministries, facilities, programs, and a “blended” worship style to be more
welcoming and that can potentially attract unchurched, de-churched individuals, as well as families with chil-
dren.
With this in mind, the Task Force recommended to the church council in June that the children move from their cur-
rent location up to the main floor and that a “children’s area” be created. The church council agreed and currently
details are being worked out.
New Children’s Area
The purpose of the new children’s area is to create more attractive and more functional space for children’s ministry.
Recently a Lifeway church consultant was brought in to discuss the possibilities for the area. The meeting was very
productive and out of it ideas to make these renovations at a much reduced cost were agreed upon. It is exciting to
anticipate the potential of these new changes.
These renovations will begin as soon as possible and, in concert with Recommendation #5 from the Spiritual Direc-
tions Weekend, individuals who participate in the Homecoming Offering, may designate all or part of their offering
toward these improvements.
Children’s Church: Interest Meeting
Some people have expressed an interest in a children’s church and with that in mind, an interest meeting was held
on June 15. One of the purposes of the addition of a children’s church is to provide a worship experience for chil-
dren that they will LOVE to attend. The goal is to make this ministry one of the most impactful ministries of Second
Branch.
Outreach
The Outreach Committee has discovered breakdowns in communication regarding visitors and will be working with
staff and other leaders to strengthen and better coordinate the outreach efforts to enhance visitor retention. Addi-
tionally, the Welcome center ministry is also expanding.
Operation InAsMuch, a significant outreach event that will rally the church to minister in the community this
fall, is now being planned. More details to follow.
Hospitality Training
Most churches can greatly improve the Sunday morning experience for visitors. For this reason, Rev. Dennis Green
of Ironbridge Baptist Church who has taught hospitality training for churches, will meet with ushers, welcome center
personnel, deacons, and others for a training on June 29, “Creating an Irresistible Visitor Experience”
Personal Conversations
In an attempt to listen to the concerns and dreams of Second Branch, I continue to meet with interested individuals
and talk with them on the phone. I look forward to being at the church on Sunday June 29 to meet with any of you
during Sunday School and to give an update during the worship service.
Thanks for the opportunity to partner with you,
Jim Hamacher

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Music Ministry
Wow! It is hard to believe it is July already. I hope everyone is enjoying some
special time with family and friends during this outdoors season (when it’s not too
HOT). Things are certainly heating up in the music ministries at SBBC thanks to the
wonderful talent from our children to our adult choristers.
Leading worship brings glory to Jesus and inspires us to grow deeper in relationship
with Him. My prayer is that you expect the unexpected each time we come together. Some exciting things
are in the planning stages for the months ahead. Be prepared for a special announcement in next month’s
newsletter. Until then…may the peace, love, and grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you al-
ways as we seek Him always.
Expecting the unexpected through Christ,
Daniel Steiger

Children’s Ministry
Summer is in full swing, and we are planning a July full of fun with SBBC Kids! Beginning July 2nd and running for four weeks on Wednesday nights, we will offer a B.O.L.D. summer mini-session, using a water park theme to bring the Bible to kids! Dates are July 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd, running from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and we will meet in the youth building. Bring a friend and let's all learn more about how to Become an Out-Loud Disciple of Jesus! Vacation Bible School begins Sunday July 27th! We are anticipating the best VBS ever, as Agency D3 takes over SBBC, and we need lots of Special Agents to help us investigate and discover facts about the life of Je-sus. Be sure to register your Special Agent at www.secondbranch.org! I want to thank all of those who joined us in June to begin a conversation about creating a children's church team. As we move forward with ideas and thoughts, if you would like to be a part of the conversation please contact me at [email protected] and I will keep you informed of future meetings. We are eagerly anticipating God's direction as we continue to build this vision for our church and His kingdom. Enjoy this wonderful time of year, and I pray it is full of God's blessings. Serving with you in Him, Dawn Turner
Wouldn’t you like to see this happen? Well, you can help make it so by contributing to the Bus Fund! Make sure any donations are clearly marked “BUS FUND”
Buckets of Love
Thank you to all that have continued to support BUCKETS OF LOVE. Your efforts have enabled the lo-cal food bank to feed four families week-ly. Please remember this ongoing ministry each time you shop. Just a few items from each person can go a long way in helping stop hunger in our area. Proverbs 22:9 states; "A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the
poor."
Did You Know?
We are the hands and feet of Jesus! We’re also his face! You are the Jesus people see every day and you carry with you the most important message they will ever hear. We spent more time telling people about the weather, than we do about the gospel. The main reason I believe this is so, is we feel discour-aged and unworthy. Thanks be to Christ, our salvation isn’t based on feeling, but on the wonderful deed He did at Calvary! Revival time for our church is fast approaching. This time of the year is very important to us as Christians, as well as to people who haven’t confessed Christ as Lord. When we attend the services,
our spirits get revived and yes, once again we feel like new creatures, God’s children!
Do you want the people in your area, to have that same feeling of being saved? Do you want your family and loved ones to know Jesus Christ and walk with Him? Do you want the Spirit of Revival to come upon this area? Then we must get the word out to everyone we know, or we meet. Most people will not come to church unless they are invited. Jesus did most of his teaching on the street and in houses. That’s where we must begin also! Remember it’s eternal life and where it will be spent that we’re talking about. It’s that important! God wants to work through you and me to reach out to the lost. This might be the most powerful
revival ever at our church. Let’s say yes to Jesus and invite someone to revival!
Answer to last month's question; Aaron's rod that budded, mana, and the ten commandments
This month's question; where did Jesus say the wide road led?
God bless and I'll see you at revival!

Recycling
Recycling is a great thing to
do! Proceeds from our big red
recycling bin go towards the Youth Ministry
Opportunities Fund. These funds help cover
some of the costs for youth with camps, re-
treats, transportation, and equipment. Bring
your newspapers to us when you come to
church! Please note on the bin what can and
cannot be recycled!
