the Legend of Luke KellyWritten by Seamus O’Rourke

Directed by Charles McGuinness

Funny and tender, this latest show by Seamus O’Rourke, follows the life of Padraig Potts McKeirnan, who has a habit of just eating whatever is on his plate...Metaphorically that is...from growing up near the tiny rural village of Drumnamee, County Leitrim in the 70’s and 80’s to falling in love with Silvia Lang, a perfect protestant girl...to marrying Mary Tague, the priests housekeeper, who he never really liked...to getting rid of Mary Tague and her mother, who he claims invented vinegar...and eventually to the realisation that the world isn’t as big as he first thought.

the stag (John Butler, Ireland 2013, 94 mins, 15A)

Starring: Hugh O’Conor, Andrew Scott, Brian Gleeson, Peter McDonald, Amy Huberman

Not your average groom, Fionán (Hugh O’Conor) has little interest in a stag party. He would much rather stay at home and make seating plans with his fiancée Ruth (Amy Huberman), but when his micromanagement of the wedding begins to get out of hand, Ruth decides that he needs a nudge in the right direction. Enlisting the help of best man Davin, a stag weekend is planned: nothing crazy, just five friends on a simple camping trip in the country. That is, until Ruth insists that her brother (nicknamed ‘The Machine’) is invited along too. Hilarious debut feature from John Butler.

This ever popular tribute show to the iconic Luke Kelly of The Dubliners, returns to Virginia for what promises to be another memorable performance. Featuring the acclaimed vocals of arguably Ireland’s finest ballad voice of today, Chris Kavanagh, this performance will take the audience on a journey through the numerous hit songs and music of the legendary Luke Kelly. Accompanied by excellent musicians, lead singer Chris Kavanagh captures the depth and passion of this folk legend. Chris toured with The Dubliners on their final European Tour and received rave reviews across Europe.

The Nualas are jetting in for one night only with their shiniest show ever. Expect shine, expect glitz, expect (knee) cleavage. With acrobatic vocals, original self-penned numbers and provocative chat about current stuff, you will laugh, you will cry, you will probably need to go to the toilet at some point.

Starring: Ciarán Hinds, Charlotte Rampling, Natascha McElhone, Rufus Sewell, Sinéad Cusack

Grieving after the death of his wife, Max Morden returns to the seaside resort where he spent summers as a child. He lodges at a boarding house run by frosty proprietor Miss Vavasour. Before long, and despite protestations from his daughter Clare, Max revisits the ghosts of his past. A faithful adaptation of John Banville’s moving novel about memory, longing and loss.

the Lunchboxthe Cripple of Inishmaan

Calvary(Ritesh Batra, India 2013, 104 mins, PG)

Starring: Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, Nawazuddin Siddique, Denzil Smith

In Mumbai, home to over 18 million people, more than 5,000 famously efficient dabbawallas - lunchbox couriers - navigate chaotic streets to deliver lunches, lovingly-prepared by housewives, to working men across the city. Ila is a housewife living in a middle-class neighbourhood with a husband who ignores her. Saajan is a beaten-down widower about to retire from his number-crunching job. After Ila realizes that Saajan is receiving the meals meant for her husband, the two begin sending each other letters through the lunchbox.

By Martin McDonagh Directed by Conor Shaffrey

The play is set against the backdrop of the filming of Robert Flaherty’s Man of Aran. “Cripple” Billy Claven, dreams of making it in Hollywood, and leaves the island and its ‘small minded’ inhabitants behind. Every aspect of Irish life is examined and held up for inspection. Darkly comic in its critique of “authentic” irishness and what it means to be Irish.

(John Michael McDonagh, Ireland 2013, 100 mins, 15A). Starring: Brendan Gleeson, Kelly Reilly, Domhnall Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd, Dylan Moran, Aidan Gillen

Father James Lavelle is a priest in a small Sligo parish. One day, while hearing confession, he is told that he is going to be murdered... in a week’s time. As the day draws nearer, Father James struggles to understand his death sentence, searching for hope and faith amongst his motley collection of parishioners - a community of lost souls and, it seems, potential murder suspects.

Blue Jasmine(Woody Allen, USA 2013, 98 mins, 15A)

Starring: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins, Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay

Jasmine is blue: that is, she is profoundly depressed. Or it could be a nickname, applying to the tune Jasmine heard playing when she first met her immensely rich husband-to-be: Blue Moon. Once, Jasmine was a Park Avenue princess but something terrible has happened both to Jasmine’s marriage and to her wealth. Penniless and alone, she has come to San Francisco to live with her divorced sister, Ginger, in a cramped apartment. Woody Allen’s latest film is pure movie-going pleasure.

Ilo Ilo

BY JANE AUSTEN

Beautifully romantic, touchingly funny and often unbearably poignant, Austen’s most personal novel is brought to the stage. Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth were once hopelessly in love. Persuaded by her family that he is not of her standing, she ends their engagement and he leaves for the sea. Anne soon realises her mistake and spends the next eight years regretting her decision. The now wealthy Wentworth returns to seek a wife. Treating Anne with cold indifference, she can only watch as he courts another. But will he ever forgive her?

(Anthony Chen, Singapore 2013, 99 mins, 12A)

Starring: Angeli Bayani, Yeo Yann Yann, Chen Tianwen, Koh Jia Ler

Lim Jiale is a very naughty ten-year-old in 1990s Singapore. His parents are struggling middle-class Chinese-speaking Singaporeans who seem on the verge of slipping out of their middle-class status. When his father loses his sales job, (but lacks the courage to tell his family) and the company where his mother works is downsizing, they hire a Filipina maid to help handle Jiale. A compelling and very emotionally-involving family story.

VLADIMIR AND ANTON JABLOKOV

Vladimir is proud to announce his brand new show for 2014. Together with his brother Anton they will perform an all new popular movie / musical and classical programme accompanied by their piano player Adam Kuruc.

Hear music from Johannes Brahms, J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Strauss and themes from movies and musicals including The Godfather, Dr. Zhivago, Fiddler on the Roof as well as many sing-along favourites.

(Joel & Ethan Coen, USA 2013, 105 mins, 15A)

Starring: Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, Justin Timberlake

Llewyn Davis is a cantankerous, self-obsessed folk singer from the outer boroughs. Fellow warbler Jean Berkey - quickly revealed to be pregnant by him - offers up a series of hilariously furious commentaries on his numerous defects. He is, she explains, like some horrible version of King Midas in reverse: everything he touches turns to ordure. The Coen Brothers’ latest film proves them to be the most consistently reliable American film-makers of their generation

As anyone who ever attended a Robert Mizzell show will testify, Robert with his band The Country Kings put on a show filled with energy and color. He is truly the authentic voice of Country music. He is steeped in the tradition of Country and Cajun music since he was a child, growing up in Louisiana.

Defender of the Faith

(Lucas Moodysson, Sweden 2013, 101 mins, 15A)

Starring: Mira Barkhammar, Mira Grosin, Liv LeMoyne, Johan Lijemark, Mattias Wiberg

Smells like Swedish teen spirit. Based on a graphic novel by the director’s wife, this is a buoyant account of three awkward-age girls who form an impromptu punk band. Specific to its 1982 Stockholm setting and yet thematically universal, the film is all the more disarming for its breezy unpretentiousness.

Winner - Grand Prix, Tokyo International Film Festival 2013

(Asghar Farhadi, Iran 2013, 130 mins, 12A)

Starring: Bérénice Bejo, Tahar Rahim, Ali Mosaffa, Pauline Burlet, Elyes Aguis,

A stunning study of modern family life, set on the outskirts of Paris where Ahmad arrives from Tehran to finalise the end of his tempestuous marriage to his estranged wife, Marie. This becomes a gripping, emotional detective story, as curious Ahmad investigates the events of the previous four years, his interest piqued by Marie’s sulky teenage daughter Lucie whose strange contempt for her mother’s new boyfriend Samir sets the story in motion.

Written by Stuart Carolan (LOVE/HATE) Directed by Andrew Flynn

Defender Of The Faith is a brilliant thriller set on a farm in Armagh 1986. The play tells the story of a family, entrenched in paramilitarism and under the constant watch of British forces. When a visitor arrives with the job of rooting out a police informer, paranoia grips the farm. Joe, his son Thomas, and a long-serving farm hand, Barney, all fall under suspicion…The family’s isolated farm becomes the setting for the electrifying exploration of a family tested by loyalty and love. Defender Of The Faith is blackly comic and chillingly real, with an atmosphere taut with tension.

Note: Production contains strong language. Recommended Age 15 upwards.
