Welcome to the first issue of Joint Heirs Gospel Magazine (JHGM). I am Erica H. Jones the CEO/Founder of JHGM. I speak for everyone involved in writing or producing this magazine when I say thank you to Jesus for allowing us to bring this vision

to fruition. I also say thank you to you readers for supporting us in our work.

It was seven years ago when the vision was brought before me by the Holy Spirit, that we three sisters should do the will of our father in heaven and to accomplish his work by starting JHGM. Joint Heirs came from the book of Romans 8:17 “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.’ This is the name that the Lord gave me when he brought the vision before me.

My life has been a journey leading to this destination. Prior to founding this magazine, I worked in the Real Estate Market for six years since 2009 before placing my license in inactive status. Before that, I was a Hair Stylist for over sixteen years, owning my very first salon at the age of twenty-two. I worked in the Dental field briefly as a Dental Assistant. I am a licensed ordained Minister- Proph-etess, and have been spreading the Gospel since the age of 19. Ministry is my passion, and calling

it gives me such a Joy! That joy is expressed in two ways, through Joint Heirs Gospel Magazine, and my family. I have a beautiful Daughter Jerrica, and an equally beautiful granddaughter named Madisyn four

years old.

What makes us different? Souls are our ultimate goal and our concern. Because we believe and know that GOD is not in a box, and that He’s not just in one particular area, state, nation, city, or country. JHGM will feature gifts, talents, and callings from inside and outside of the walls of the church building. We will tell the stories of ministers, pastors, musicians, athletes, actors and people from all walks of life.

How does publishing JHGM make me feel? No words can express how it makes me feel to not only Publish my very first Gospel Magazine, but to also be a African American - Black female and to accomplish something that only GOD could have allowed me to do, and to God be All the glory. It makes me feel like Great inside but yet with humbleness all at the same time, and I can say this (speak) on behalf of my sister Kimberly Williams as well.

… Gospel Music is a Ministry as well. We also believe that It’s another platform that God uses to minister into the lives of His people. We all have our own individual testimonies. We’ve all made mistakes, but we serve an amazing God. He is loving and forgiving. With the Joint Heirs Gospel Magazine, let us celebrate all the good things that God’s people are doing. For by being brought together, we are much stronger than when we are apart in the Body of Christ. As is said in Philippians 1:6 “Being confi-dent of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. I desire to con-tinue on working in the vineyard. He begun a good work in each of us and He promised us that He will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Join the Joint Heirs in our mission and please share your ideas with our team.

This magazine is for all of us.

...GOD CAN CHANGE THEIR LIVES AROUND EVEN IF IT IS THROUGH THE GIFT

OF MUSIC.

Anchored in the Baptist church; San began singing at the early age of 2. She followed her quartet-singing,

preaching father everywhere he went and garnered his love for the microphone and people.

She began leading songs as far back as she can remember, but began her professional career in the city of Chicago in 1985. San first recorded with the renowned rev. Clay Evans & the Fellowship Missionary Baptist church as a teenager.

She then began doing background sessions for various artists in the city as well as becoming a prominent lead vocalist. She recorded with the award winning Chicago Mass Choir on their 1st live recording, which pushed her further toward her love for live recording and performance. She embarked upon acting in gospel theatre and off-Broadway shows, which led to her

relocation in 1990 to the San Francisco Bay area. San partnered with the late bishop Walter Hawkins & the love center church where in 1993; she accepted her call to the preached word ministry as an evangelist. She quickly became a sought after soloist and session singer in the region.

She recorded with several artists such as Edwin Hawkins Music & Arts seminar, Tony, Toni, Tone’, Union Apostolic, Lawrence Matthews, Kelli Williams, GMWA women’s choir and the Grammy-nominated album, Love Alive V in 1997. It was this recording that gained her greater notoriety and helped build a bridge to a new and younger “Hawkins” following. During this season she also began traveling internationally, singing and performing jingles for Japanese television. She also toured extensively with various gospel artist including Bishop Walter Hawkins,

Daryl Coley, Tremaine Hawkins and many others as vocal director.

She began emceeing various national events and saw a greater demand for solo ministry. Even though still apart of love center she began leaping in faith and stepping out in full-time ministry on her own. San’s voice was undeniably different and soon became recognized as that girl who sang “Nick of Time” with Bishop Hawkins. It has been 14yrs since that recording, but when people hear her, they quickly know her association to the great gospel legend.

Since entering the industry in 1986, San has been featured on over 25 recordings as lead vocalist with such names as William Becton, Vashawn Mitchell Bishop Paul Morton, Shirley Caesar, Crystal Rucker, GMWA, Chicago Mass, Love Alive V, Edwin Hawkins, Kevin Lemons & HC...

I want to show the love of God and extend it as it has been extended to me. I want to be of relevance to my audience. I purposely intend to bring your attention to my God.” Her album is a combination of churchy, contemporary and just plain ole’ good mu-sic. It is slated for a 2015 release and has

One of Gospel Music’s most prominent figure and behind the scenes motivating force is found in the person

of Mrs. Esther Wooten. She was a wife to the late Mr. Roy Wooten, and the mother of three beautiful children, Miioka, Royriquez and Hadassah Wooten, she is the grandmother to MiKayla, McKenzie and Josiah Wooten. Her name is etched and marked as a leader in this industry. She personifies brilliance, grace, style and gives no less than one hundred percent (100%).

Esther Wooten is listed as one of the 10 most influential names in the music industry. She has the experience and ability to help nurture those that commission her services and has been given by God knowledge to place you in the area that will help you succeed in your calling. If you ask most artists in the gospel music industry, they will tell you that Esther Wooten is someone to know. Esther, being a native of Mississippi, was brought up knowing the power of the message through gospel music and as time progressed, she began to listen and allow God to move through her in His own way. Realizing that He had already laid out His plan, He sent her and equally devoted partner to help her in the growth of her calling in the gospel music industry. It was during the tenure of Roy with Malaco Records and Esther’s work with a home grown Booking Agency, God’s plan was made plain to them. As time passed, God gave a vision to The Late

“Mr. Malaco” Wooten, to establish an Annual Gospel Music Showcase Extravaganza in the Mississippi area. This event is held every year during the first weekend of March – Thursday through Saturday. It has provided spiritual conditioning as well as artist development and performances, for the past 13 years. This three day convention caters to a crowd of over 10, 000 attendees annually. Not only do they attend to showcase their talents, but many come to enhance and perfect their art. For many artist connections are made with record companies, promoters and radio announcers from across the world.

Each night, this event features a New Artist Showcase, which allows new artists to showcase their talents. Trophies are awarded nightly in the first, second and third prize categories; with the grand prize awarded on the last evening of the event (Saturday). Trophies are also awarded to music industry icons who have served in the music arena during the past year. Two (2) scholarships are given to students pursing studies in Music & The Arts. The highlight of the convention is the Exclesisa Enterprises Saturday morning Annual FREE Picnic for all in attendance.

ESTHER WOOTEN IS LISTED AS ONE OF THE 10 MOST

INFLUENTIAL NAMES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

Every once in a while exceptional talent im-pacts the gospel industry leaving an indelible impression! Notably, the “highly-anointed”

Williams Singers have done just that! What su-persized gifts and talents the Lord has given to the gospel music industry! The group emerges as a dynamic component and a super remarkable talent for the 21st century. The group simply pro-pels their uncompromising vocal talent to an un-precedented level of artistic achievement on this project. Essentially, their gifts and talents continue to revolutionize the gospel music industry. Their recent project “Destined” featuring the awesome hit single “Been Good” provides indisputable proof of their extraordinary talent and an even greater future.

The group was organized by Reverend Charles D. Williams (preacher, quartet singer, sensational songwriter and musician) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Reverend Williams was born in Louisiana with a keen intrinsic melodic distinctive steeped in the roots of traditional gospel. However, this is not sur-prising because he is the cousin of the late great legendary recording preacher Leo Daniels. As a result, the tradition continues with three Williams’ brothers, Darnell, Dezrale, and Dezmien who are talented musical virtuosos.

A NEW GENERATION OF QUARTET MUSICMINISTRY

THE WILLIAMS SINGERSReverend Williams’ commitment to God

and the spirit of excellence enabled him to weather the tumultuous storms of

the gospel music industry. The Sacred Text of the Bible became clear to him when he seriously thought of the Scripture which reads to “Train up a child in the way he should go . . .” Accordingly, because he was blessed by God with a musically gifted family, he organized a singing group, the Christian Cavaliers, with his sons who named the group. Subsequently, the name of the group was changed to The Williams Family Singers!

“Destined” by God with their own recording label (Deznell Music Group) the brothers wanted to honor their father who had never recorded by recording a live tribute showcasing the songs he had written for them. Unfortunately, their father had to be admitted to the hospital just before the time to record. Nevertheless, the enormous success of the project coupled with the restored joy of singing quartet music together greatly impacted the brothers and the gospel community in Indianapolis!

Not only are the Williams Singers skillful professional vocalists, they are all accomplished musicians. Their talents transcend various creative art forms as they take their music in a new direction. They simultaneously project their uncompromising vocal and musical talents and gifts to an unprecedented level of

creative achievement -- a rare, yet liberating talent which is uniquely theirs! However, the gifts just keep flowing they are all writers and arrangers of songs. Two of the brothers are ordained preachers. Yes, God has significantly blessed these men and they are giving back to the community. They have been “Destined” and God has “Been Good.”

A quick glance at their repertoire of performances is quite impressive and validates their authenticity. They have traveled throughout the United States sharing the stage with great legendary artists namely, Lee Williams & The Spiritual QCs, The Canton Spirituals, Vicki Winans, Deitrick Hadden and many others.

The Williams Singers project “Destined” featuring the hit release “Been Good” is on the Denzell Music Group label. “This innovative project echoes success! This project is an authentic masterpiece with a smorgasbord of incredible lyrics. The musical story opens magnificently with their powerful voices harmonizing on the single “Been Good,” which continues with “Feel Like Traveling Home,” “Good Time,” “Soul Saver,” “Wretch Like Me,” and “Welldone.” However, the project escalates with “I’m Depending On You,” (featuring Ben Rayford), “Alright,” “Testify,” and ends well with “Be Right There.” For music connoisseurs who want to savor the taste of the best of quartet music with a

traditional blend and snippets of the upbeat contemporary gospel flavor. You are invited to feast on the Williams Singers catalogue; they have recorded five very successful projects and two DVDs.

Most distinguishing, is their vast reservoir of vocal techniques and their overwhelming ability to execute them. Their voices are powerful and loaded with exceptional vocal artistry savored with captivating harmonic blends. Their vocal quality features a rhythmic directness providing the highest degree of intensity. In fact, they effortlessly sing with a personalized melodic/harmonic blend which is of a prolific caliber offering a taste and see response from their audiences. Such profoundness affirms an uplifting and liberating factor for the listening ear. The sheer depth and intensity of their stylistic diversity on this project simply raises the bar of excellence. This authentic masterpiece is a must-have for your music collection.

Remember, the Williams Singers have never disappointed their fans! They vow to continue to bless the gospel industry with great gospel music. So turn your radio on to feast on their current project “Destined” featuring the hit release single “Been Good.”

You will be glad you did!

There is a new artist rising quickly in the blessed world of Gospel music and her name is Jalesa McRae. In many ways she was born to be a Gospel singer, as her mother is Pastor Brenda Verdell. Jalesa started singing at the age of three and hasn’t stopped since.

The twenty-eight year old rising star told JHGM, ‘I’m saved, sanctified and filled with the holy ghost. I’m active in my church Winds of Change Ministry where we have the largest food bank in the Wiregrass area. I’m in the military and i have 2 children Allen

and Rihanna Eutsey. I love doing makeup, exercising, and spending time with my family.’

McRae may be young in the industry but she’s definitely seasoned in the word of the Lord and sings with power and the Anointing. Get the full life Story and more updates on this amazing new Gospel Artist who seems to be taking the Industry by storm in JHGM upcoming issues.

For two decades Darrell McFadden and the Disciples, have been making down home traditional gospel music just like four part

harmonizers make it in southern quartet hubs such as Canton, MS (home of the Canton Spirituals), Jackson, MS (birthplace of The Jackson Southernaires) or Tupelo, MS (the launching pad for Lee Williams & the Spiritual QCs). The only difference is these guys hail from Brooklyn, New York — the northern urban mecca that produced rap legend Notorious B.I.G., boxer Mike Tyson and comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

Darrell McFadden And The Disciples, known as one of the hardest working Groups/Bands in the land (Called “DMD” by their fans) have a fresh but classic sound that stays close to traditional quartet roots while exploring contemporary musical styles. Jazzing up quartet has been in the group’s lifeblood from the start.

DMD has shared the stage with many gospel legends over the last 20 years and share a very special relationship with the veterans and the rising talent within the quartet music genre. Seen as innovators, inspiring many young artists who have taken to their unique urban approach to the traditional style of quartet music.

DMD has performed at many conventions and festivals including: The GMWA, The Jackson Music Awards, The Stellar Awards, The American Gospel Quartet Convention, The New Orleans Jazz Fest, The Chicago Gospel Fest, The Clarksdale Blues and Art Festival, and many more, as well as earning two Stellar Award Nominations.

“We want to take quartet music to a new stage of recognition and popularity. A lot of people have lost touch with it, aren’t even familiar, or

have an inaccurate impression about it. We want to show them that it can still be current, modern and something they can latch onto and enjoy. But our greatest purpose is just to win souls.

There are a lot people who love this music but still don’t know much, if anything about God. We want to be Ambassadors for the Lord, and present the Gospel in a way people can receive it in their hearts…just the same as we want to take Quartet music and put it hand-in-hand with Contemporary, and everybody live together as one.”

Just as a river keeps on flowing year in and year out, a few very special Gospel groups just keep rolling out their legend. Formed in 1945, The Highway Q.C.’s are

just that kind of musical river. As they told JHGM, “We are honored and humbled to be nominated on the first round ballot of the 2016 Stellar Awards for Category 26: Quartet of the Year!”

The Highway Q.C.’s are a legend that has birthed legends, spawning the careers of several secular stars, including Lou Rawls,Johnnie Taylor, and Sam Cooke. The group was founded in 1945 in Chicago by a group of male teenagers who attended Highway Baptist Church, including Sam Cooke, Creadell Copeland, Marvin and Charles Jones, and Jake and Lee Richard. Cooke sang with the group through 1951, when he joined The Soul Stirrers. His replacement could sing more than just a little bit. Lou Rawls was the Highay Q.C.’s lead tenor through 1953. Rawls had previously sung with the Holy Wonders, and eventually all of the other Wonders (Spencer Taylor, James Walker, and Chris Flowers) would also join the Highway Q.C.’s.

After Rawls’s departure in 1953, Johnnie Taylor joined the group, and in 1955 they made their first recordings for Vee-Jay Records. In 1957 Taylor left the group, replacing Sam Cooke in the Soul Stirrers as Cooke pursued a career as a

solo artist. Spencer Taylor, who had joined in 1956 and was not related to Johnnie Taylor, became the group’s leader after Johnnie’s departure and remained so for over forty years, leading the group well into the 1990s. They would record for Savoy Records and A&M Records, among others.

We will have more updates on theStellar Awards, and the Legendary Spencer Taylor - The Highway Q.C.’s in JHGM’s next 2016 edition.

Dr. Andrew Cheairs represents the hand of God through his five point ministry of Pastoring, Preaching, Performance, Production and Promotion. Commanded by the gospel in word and deed, as an arm for God, Dr. Cheairs is respected for his gift of rejuvenating those in his ministry, regardless of their spiritual station. Dr. Cheairs has been the shepherd of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, located in Byhalia, MS, since 1989. Under his leadership, the congregation has increased forty five members to an estimated eight hundred, and St. Paul was able to purchase twelve acres of land where the new sanctuary now stands. Dr. Cheairs’ commitment modeling of the practice of tithes and offering, the church was able to dissolve a fifteen year mortgage within nine years. Two years later, Dr. Cheairs was given yet another vision, which eventuated in, the building of the St. Paul Church Outreach Center. DR. ANDREW CHEAIRSMINISTRY

Da’Quan Bowers story is much more than that of a professional football player who had a career cut short by injury. Football is a game he learned, but Gospel music was bred into his soul.

Joint Heirs Team sat down with Da’Quan Bowers recently at the Esther Wooten Gospel Quartet Convention in Memphis, Tenn. We were moved as you will be by the story of his life. Da’Quan’s father Dennis Bowers was a singer with the Legendary Singing Stars for thirty-three years until the Lord called Dennis home at the age of 51 in 2010. Da’Quan at that time was a star defensive end at Clemson University and was a projected number one pick in the 2011 NFL draft. Knee injuries dropped him to the second round and later a torn achilles tendon ended his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he was a late cut in September of 2015.

Over the past thirty years, the Stellar Awards has become the premier Gospel event that recognizes and honors African-American artists. This one of a kind award show has showcased top Gospel artists and many television and film stars. Nominated for the 2016 Stellar Awards is the hard-driving East St. Louis group, Shawn Brown & Da Boyz.

The Lord gave a vision to Deacon Shawn Brown to organize a group called Shawn Brown & The Boyz in 2008. The Lord has blessed their ministry to spread His word all over the country. Group members consist of Shawn Brown Sr., Dewayne Hamiel, Tyrone Jennings Jr., Carl Wiley, TraIvy, Danny Buchanan, and Shawn Brown Jr.

God blessed their group’s mission when Shawn Brown & The Boy were to signed by Malaco Records/Four Winds label. Their first nationally-released record A LICENSE TO DRIVE came out in 2015. On tour, the group has had a privilege to share the stage with the best ofquartet singing such as Lee Williams, The Canton Spirituals, Doc McKenzie, Mighty Clouds of Joy, and Spenser Taylor, just to name a few.

Shawn Brown would like the readers of JHGM to know, ‘Our goal is to continue to spread God’s word through songs all of over the country, just letting men and women know that he still heals and he still saves souls. God has blessed us with a group of strong and determined young brothers from East St. Louis, IL. We want to share our God and his blessings all over the world. GOD BLESS YOU!’JHGM will be reporting on the results of the 2016 Stellar Awards in our next issue.

“DR. CHEAIRS HAS GRACED THE STAGE WITH SUCH ARTISTS AS DOTTIE PEOPLES, RANCE ALLEN, THE CANTON SPIRITUALS,

MARVIN WINANS...”

Da’Quan took the end of that career to return to his roots. He now has a place in his late father’s old group, as the bass player for the Legendary Singing Stars. As he said in our interview, Da’Quan Bowers has made mistakes in his life, however ‘I enjoy traveling and playing my guitar with the Group who my father sang with for many years and also was a legend.’

Late Breaking News: Da’Quan was resigned by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 15, 2015.Look for the full story of this wonderful young man in the next issue of Joint Heirs Gospel Magazine.

HE IS A CHRISTIAN, LOVES GOSPEL MUSIC AND ALSO LOVES TO SING. “HE’S ACTUALLY A GOOD SINGER.

The Memphis-based quartet of Lisa Knowles & The Brown Singers is one of the most exciting and thrilling vocal

groups on the modern gospel scene. In an era that has all but forgotten gospel music’s gritty quartet roots, Knowles and her talented family of singers are shining a spotlight on the genre and making it popular for a new generation of enthusiastic fans. Over the years, the group has enjoyed radio hits such as “Work On Me,” “I Need You Lord Jesus” and “Zion.” In 2014, the group released their most recent project, ‘The Evolution Continues’, which debuted at #6 on the Billboard Gospel Chart.

In spite of Lisa Knowles’ youth, the Brown Singers have been around since the late 1970s when Knowles’ grandmother, Willie Mae Richmond (whose maiden name is Brown), first formed the group. They performed together for almost a decade before Knowles joined during the 5th grade when she was nine years old. By the time she was 12, she had been established as the ensemble’s lead singer. “I had a drive,” she laughs. “I love doing this and

the way it makes me feel.” Knowles’ electrifying enthusiasm and passionate vocal expression have helped distinguish the Brown Singers from other vocal groups because they infuse contemporary flourishes into their down home sound. The songs on The Evolution Continues range from modern grooves like “Use Me” and “What He’s Done For Me” to the hit radio single - “God Do It” a ferocious quartet stomper that was written by Knowles’ grandfather, a pastor. The album is rounded out with the jazzy “This Too Shall Pass” and an alluring remake of LaShun Pace’s retro groove “He’s Able.” To see them perform these songs live is an experience. “These women are the hardest working gospel singers that I have ever seen,” Connie Fitch, who booked them on the 2014 New Orleans Jazz Festival Gospel Tent, once told The New Orleans Advocate newspaper.

In recent years, Knowles’ dramatic talent has not gone unnoticed. She has done guest shots on hit albums by the likes of John P. Kee, The Williams Brothers, Earnest Pugh, J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise and James Fortune & FIYA.

In March 2015, Lisa Knowles & The Brown Singers won two Stellar Awards for Traditional Duo/Group of the Year and Quartet of the Year. Knowles is currently working on her first solo album but will still retain her role with The Brown Singers.

“I love doing this and the way it makes me feel.”

DEONTAY WILDEROn January 17, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada the thirty-one year old Deontay Wilder became the first American to hold the WBC title as world

heavyweight boxing champion by defeating Bermane Stiverne in a unanimous decision. Five months later, Wilder successfully defended the title in a ninth round knockout over Eric Molina before a packed Bartow Arena crowd in Wilder’s home state of Alabama. Then in September, still

fighting in Birmingham, Deontay Wilder took his professional record to 35-0 with 34 knockouts by defeating Johann Duhaupas of France in an eleventh round TKO. His next title defence is scheduled for January 16, 2016 in Brooklyn NY where Wilder will face Poland’s Artur Szpilka.

Four championship fights within a year in boxing’s most dangerous division is a frequency of activity not seen since the heyday of the great Joe Louis’ career in the 1930s and 40s. The present echoes the past, given that Deontay Wilder was given the nickname The Bronze Bomber in tribute to Louis’ The Brown Bomber after Wilder returned with a bronze medal in boxing from the 2008 Peking Olympics. However, it is not just as a boxer that Deontay Wilder leads a champion’s life. For among the managers, trainers, cutmen and sparring partners that form a professional boxer’s entourage the most important advisor in Wilder’s life is Jesus.Wilder grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as a dedicated and gifted young athlete. Indeed, his boyhood dream was to some day wear the uniform of Alabama’s Crimson Tide in football as a wide receiver or in basketball where his 6’7 frame was ideally suited to a forward position. However when his eldest daughter Naieya was diagnosed with spina bifida at birth, Wilder’s grades suffered and instead of the University of Alabama, he had to complete his education at nearby Shelton State Community College. In order to pay for his education and Naieya’s rehabilitation, Deontay Wilder entered the boxing arena. When Wilder won the title against Stiverne, his

first words in the ring touched the heart of JHGM’s CEO Erica Jones. She says, ‘I and my family sat and watched the entire fight. Hearing what Deontay Wilder had to say about God meant a lot. He acknowledged God before the world and wanted the world to know just how good God is to him. It was that very same night that I said, I would like for Joint Heirs to do a article on him. I thank God for faith and favor. He opened the doors and allowed us to make direct contact starting with Wilder’s coach and manager, Jay Deas.’Deas opened up to JHGM about his pupil and friend. The business of talking trash before a fight is just that – a part of the business of boxing required to build an audience. The real Deontay Wilder is a Christian, loves Gospel music and also loves to sing. He’s actually a good singer.”

JHGM will keep you updated on Deontay Wilder’s career and we will sit down with him for an extended interview soon. Look for all the news in Joint Heirs.

MUSIC

DIVINE NATUREAfter years of working in the national and local gospel field, these young

men decided to come together and form a group with a special sound. They merged all that they learned in the traditional and contemporary

gospel arena to create a new sound. They were quickly accepted in the “tradition-ary” market because they have a sound that is received by all. The original core consisted of Tussant, Avery, Robbie and Reggie. After Reggie left to work more in the spoken ministry the group sung for a while as a trio. Soon the added Kendall to fill out their sound. A new project is due to be released soon. It is refreshing to see a group of young men with so much experience come across as humble as they do. If you get a chance to see them in service in your area, I strongly reccommend that you go out and see them.

One of four boys, I, Jason Davis was born March 1, 1978 to humble beginnings of a factory worker and a mother in pursuit of her accounting degree while working as a pharmacy

technician. Immediately hard work was exemplified in our household by not only both parents, but also by both sets of grandparents. Our home was a home cultivated with strong faith in Jesus Christ, high family values, and strong work ethic. Growing up on a farm I learned to work until the completion of a job rather than the proverbial sound of a “shift-ending” whistle. It was also the agrarian culture that taught me the importance of quality versus quantity. This lesson my grandfather taught me by assuring me the job would be repeated if the quality wasn’t acceptable.

My entrepreneurial spirit began at an early age of 8. I created a tree farm and designed an irrigation system to supply it. Falling seeds from trees in my parent’s yard led to the transplantation of trees from my farm to neighbors’ lawns.

Not only did the time with my grandfather spur the inception of excellence in me, but it also birthed the desire to lead others to a healthier life. I then realized my affinity to medicine. He suffered from heart disease and experienced many myocardial infarctions during my life. My take away from experiencing the numerous heart attacks and attending physician visits with him was that I wanted to make a

difference in others’ lives that also dealt with heart disease. I set my sights on becoming a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

I completed an advanced high school curriculum with honors while also lettering four years in football. I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I pursued my love of football while at UAB as well. It wasn’t too long after being there that I realized the life of a Cardiothoracic surgeon was not conducive to my core belief of being present in the lives of my family. Still holding true to the desire to help those afflicted with cardiovascular disease, I decided to enroll in UAB’s School of Nursing. Carrying a national ranking of fifteen while connected to one of the leading cardiovascular institutes in all the world provided an exceptional classroom and clinical experience to undergird my passion for the field. I proceeded to graduate in the top 10 of my class at UAB and work in their Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. I gained a great deal of knowledge while serving beside a surgeon that led, and still does, with the most heart surgeries ever done and also another surgeon who was the son of one of the founders of Cardiothoracic surgery.

It was during my time at UAB that God granted me favor and presented to me the love of my life. It was at first sight that I uttered what God placed in my spirit, “that’s my wife”. Twenty-one months later God’s words spoken to me were manifested before man.

Minister Jason DavisThirdly, dream big! Really BIG!!! Remember, you are a child of

THE KING!

MY DESIRE IS TO LIVE A LIFE

“POURED OUT”!

Short of the salvation Jesus afforded me, my wife is the best thing that ever happened to me. Three beautiful anointed children later, we now close in on our thirteenth marriage anniversary, glory to God!

Two years into our our marriage I, then, accepted my calling into the ministry of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This was not a new calling from God, as He had called me six years prior at the age of eighteen. I exuberantly announce that my wife has since joined me in preaching the Word of God. We currently proclaim the Gospel at North Courtland P.B. Church in Courtland, AL.

My love for building extended beyond people. I moved by faith as my entrepreneurial ventures continued to grow as I began a construction company. We specialize in designing and building energy efficient, custom homes and small commercial projects. Over the past 11 years we have created projects of excellence, distinction, and elegance. We continue to push ourselves to offer our clients exceeding and abundantly above all that they may ask or think.

As I sought to better the temple that God has given me, I partnered with an amazing company. We are on a mission to eradicate obesity globally! We, by way of The Project 10 Challenge, help, encourage, and support life transformations. Not only do we do this at

an adult level, but we also help our future, our children. A healthy lifestyle is one that is far more beneficial if began early in life.

Despite my efforts, I have always felt there was more for me to do. I was recently invited to join our city’s Minority Development Association. I was blessed and humbled to receive that invitation. We are focusing on solutions to issues that plague our African American community at both the youth and adult level.

My desire is to live a life “poured out”! I don’t want to arrive in Heaven not having diligently tended and cultivated the garden of gifts that God placed in me. As a husband, father, and minister of the Gospel, I am also indirectly responsible for fertilizing the gardens close to me.

If there were some words of wisdom that I would pass on it would be keep God first, of course. Remember, we work, but it is He that giveth the increase and promotion. And it is after we seek Him first that all things are added to us!

Secondly, I would say be intentional. Be very intentional! We are given 86,400 seconds a day that we can’t get back or carry over to the next day. It requires intentionality to make sure that each of those seconds are utilized to grow you in every area that God has

you operating in. To do this you must find a mentor, surround yourself with great people, and read.

Thirdly, dream big! Really BIG!!! Remember, you are a child of THE KING! He affectionately tells us that nothing is impossible with Him (Luke 1:37). You must believe in you! Don’t for once think that you don’t deserve to live your dreams. His Grace says you are deserving and your place in His family says it’s your re-birth right! Keep the faith! “Anything is possible if a person believes.” (Mark 9:23) Allow yourself to be cognizant of the most forgotten ingredient of the faith recipe; perseverance. The race isn’t given to the swift, but to the one that endures to the end.

DON’T EVER GIVE UP!

God Bless You!

The Gaston’s gospel singers (formerly the Gaston 5) was formed April 1971, at the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada under the leadership of the late Pastor Frank

Davis, by Pastor Almary Gaston and the late Lash Melton of the Church Rocking Meltonettes.

The group consisted of five members at that time, Jesse Jr. and Ronnie Gaston, the uncles of John, Edward, and Michael Gaston. The group traveled around the city to various churches singing praises unto the Lord, and in 1975 The Gaston Five had their first opportunity to open for the world reknown Jackson Southernaires of Jackson Mississippi and this is where their career in quartet gospel singing started.

In 1979 three more members were added to the group, Pastor Charlie Banks Jr., Calvin Clark, and Billy Clark. Pastor Banks, and Calvin Clark are still active in the group today. In 1981 two more members served a short stint with the Gaston Five, Travis Dean, and the late Andre Woods.

The Gaston’s have sang all over the United States in various cities, and has been appearing at the world famous Sunday Gospel Brunch at the House Of Blues since March 1999.

In August 1998, John A. Gaston Sr, one of the original Gaston Five went on to his heavenly home, to live with the lord.

On January 1, 2000 The Gaston Five changed their name to The Gas-ton’s Gospel Singers of Las Vegas, Nevada in honor of the passing of their brother.

The Gaston Five Members consist of: Jesse Jr., Edward Sr, Edward Jr,

Michael and Ronnie Gaston, Pastor Charlie Banks Jr., Calvin Clark, Rev. Leslie Jackson, Elder Bobby Kelly, Elder Garland Washington and Elijah Pullens.

In April of 2007 they completed their first full CD titled ‘Remember Me’. This project was produced by Pastor Michael A Lowery of Berean Fel-lowship. We had also performed at the House of Blues doing the Gospel Brunch for 15 years. During this era we opened for Al Green, and had numerous others perform with us. This list includes Freddy Jackson,Roz of Amen, Faith Evans and many more. We have had the honor of per-forming in many cities across the United States.

Then as most groups we suffered the loss of two of our members, Leslie Jackson on 6/29/08 and Michael Gaston 8/5/09. This was hard but we endured.

We are now have a project called Until My Change Come which we are excited about. So continue to look and listen for the Gastons.

THE ORR SISTERSGospelcdreviews.com Song of the Year Contest! 2014 Winners

MINISTRY

The Orr Sisters are a group that once consisted of six biological sisters. They were born to, nurtured, and raised by Mr. Nelson and Mrs. Lorna Orr.

These sisters were inspired by their parents to sing. Both parents have been and or are currently a member of a gospel group from this Tennessee Valley area for the past 40 years.

They are somewhat musically self-taught. Growing up they made up songs by listening and singing along with commercials, looking at their surroundings, and gathering in front of the mirror almost daily harmonizing songs.

For almost three decades they have been performing in churches, schools, picnics, banquets, plays, etc… They have performed in the world famous W.C. Handy Festival for more than 12 years now.

They along with their brother they started performing before the public between the ages of 5 & 8. Min. Stephen Black, founder of Min. Stephen Black and The Levites, was commissioned by God in November of 2012, to form a praise & worship ensemble. Stephen immediately

did as God said, and informed others that he was forming a praise & worship ministering ensemble. He asked those who were interested in joining, to meet at Harvesme Fellowship Church in the city of Crawfordsville, AR.

The Levites inially started with 9 members and over the course of a few months that number dwindled to 6. Yet remaining faithful to God, I yet hear His voice saying to me “I called for a remnant.

The group consists of members as shown pictured from left to right; Tabitha Boykins, Samon Miller, Tedra Hayes-Black, leader/founder Min. Stephen Black, Sarah Black, Lynn Black-Peterson, and Corey Crume. The majority of the group is from Crawfordsville, AR, other members are from Turrell, AR, and Marion, AR. We are group of young people that love God and the people of God.

We have ministered in various cies across Arkansas, and have also had the opportunity to minister in Illinois, Missouri, and Tennessee. The Lord

blessed us to release our first CD on August 8, 2015.

The Levite’s mission is to transform the lives of the people of God through the ministry of music. As being the Levites we were called to be “shiers” for our me. Our main goal is to minister to God first and He will take what we have given to Him and transform it to meet each individuals need. We are not a ministry that makes singing our priority, but it is truly the will of God and whatever He wants to do through us at any given me.

Lastly, we would like for everyone to know that we will connue to uphold the banner of Holiness and Righteousness through Godly living, so that our Holy God will be pleased by what we are offering to Him. Our God reigns.

YOUNG PEOPLE THAT LOVE GOD

Over fifty years ago, in Grand Junction,TN, The Songbirds (formerly The Seven Star Juniors) began as a family based quartet group. Infused in faith and committed to ministering to all souls, The Songbirds live in praise and service of God. Their music provides avenues for future generations to learn what it really means to serve our Savior in the highest magnitude, with add-

ed attention to mentorship. The Songbirds have touched congregants in Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, and Ohio with music that “meets them in their seat” - just as Christ would. The Songbirds have been blessed to share in ministry with Dottie Peoples, Rance Allen, The Canton Spirituals, Marvin Winans, Walter & Edwin Hawkins, Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’s, The Williams Brothers, and Pastor Shirley Caeser.

The Songbirds are under the direction of acclaimed gospel songwriter and producer Dr. Andrew Cheairs, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Byhalia, MS. Through his work, Dr. Cheairs has the opportunity to reach people from various walks of life. He teaches what it is possible when we live in God’s planned purpose for our lives. Over the years, he has hosted revivals throughout the country, allowing God’s word to go forth and increase the family of fortified Christians prepared for spiritual battle.

MINISTRY

If there is one word that defines the heart of the music ministry of Raine that word is “worship”. Her passion for God and her gifting of music collaborate to create a dynamic and unforgettable worship experience. Anyone who has witnessed this anointed vessel give honor to the Lord in

a live setting knows that this woman isn’t about show, form or fashion, but her sole goal is to move the heart of God. That fact is clear on her debut CD entitled Believe Again – The Live Experience. Featuring a treasure trove of uplifting praise and worship tracks, Believe Again – The Live Experi-ence is Raine’s musical mandate to the people of God to take that dream off the shelf and believe God again. Musically, the project is a clever mix of Contemporary Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Jazz, Neo-Soul, Urban, and Praise and Worship music, but lyrically, the songstress delivers one inspirational, God-directed track after another. A Nominee for the Chicago Gospel Music Award for Praise & Worship Artist of the Year and the Winner of the Peculiar Artist Award from Kierra Sheard’s BRL (Bold Right Life) Chicago Chapter, Raine is already setting the Gospel music industry on fire. And that’s just a taste of the gifts that this talented woman of God has been given.A native of Chicago, Illinois, Raine has been called to share God’s message of hope, love, healing, and deliverance with the world through the vehicle of song. Growing up in a home filled with music, her parents recall her humming the theme song to “All In The Family” at the age of 6 months. Both sides of her family were gifted with music, even through multiple generations. As early as the age of 4, Raine begin hitting the airwaves singing on the Isabelle Joseph Johnson radio show on Sunday Mornings at 6 am, as well as being featured at the age of 8 am on the Gatling’s Radio program on WYCA 92.3 FM, both in Chicago. As she grew up, Raine participated in multiple church and community choirs, from childhood all the way to college. Each time she was recognized as a soloist or a lead singer. In college, Raine was given the opportunity to become a member of the University Choir at Grambling State University in Grambling, LA. Being a part of these musical groups afforded her opportunities to tour and travel throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Throughout her musical life, Raine has worked with a number of artists within the Gospel music industry. LeCresia Campbell, Bridget Campbell, Todd Dulaney, Kevin Gray, Maurice Griffin, Ernie Allen, Lonnie Hunter, Cynthia Nunn, Darryl Hallman, and Leon Dubose have all played a part in nurturing her gift, whether in the role of teacher or trainer of music. They are just a few of the people who have blessed her along her musical journey. As she grew up, Psalmist Raine participated in multiple church and community choirs, from childhood all the way to college. Believe Again – The Live Experience contains songs like “God Is In Control”, “Change Me” and “Miracle”. Psalmist Raine says, “The first song that was released from Believe Again – The Live Experience was ‘Miracle’. One of the reasons we chose ‘Miracle’ is because the track fits the theme of the album. The song decrees and declares what God has said. It’s important to me that the people of God not give up on Him and I am asking those who have, to believe Him again.” Not only is “Miracle” an exceptional cut, but songs like the spirited “Your Word” and the liberating “Release” find the psalmist shifting the atmosphere for worship. God lovers will enjoy songs like the reverent “Refuge Revealed” and

the up-tempo “The Anthem”. One of the standouts is the CD’s title tune, the hope-filled “Believe Again”. A personal testimony, Psalmist Raine delivers this memorable song with fervor, as she does with each tune on the 11-track CD. The various testimonies of God’s healing and delivering power through this debut album has presented many opportunities for Psalmist Raine to share her music with the world. Psalmist Raine is currently promoting Believe Again – The Live Experience while prepping her sophomore recording, ReFresh Worship Live.An ordained elder, prophetess and worship arts pastor, Psalmist Raine has not forgotten to serve in her home, being a wife and mother of three, as well as her home church, Life in Christ Family Worship Center, under the leadership of Pastors Royal & Kimberly McClinton. Psalmist Raine takes the time to help mentor, train, and teach others purity in worship through musical worship experiences, the preached word, seminars, and conferences. Psalmist Raine is currently preparing to release her 2nd Live Recording Album entitled ReFresh Worship Live in January of 2016.

She is also working to establish and incorporate The ReFresh Worship Institute, Inc. which is scheduled to launch in 2016. For more information regarding the institute, visit www.berefresh.com .

For Psalmist Raine, it all comes back to worship. Her sole purpose is to creating an atmosphere, a space that is conducive for God to inhabit,” says Psalmist Raine. “When God enters any space, I feel His presence and the power that arrests HIS people. I long to see God’s people refreshed and empowered in the presence of God.” For Bookings & More information about Psalmist Raine & The ReFresh Worship Institute, Inc.
