STATUS IN THE NORDIC REGION SHIPPING INDUSTRI Combating Emissions and Fuel Consumption

Through Modern Science.

Visualize the possible savings offuel in the Nordic Region wherethousands of ships using from 20tons of fuel per day up to 250 tonsof fuel per day are operating. These ships are operating 320 to340 days a year.

At Marorka, we look at the annual

Shipping industry in the EU-27 member states*(total fleet controlled):

Number of enterprises: 10,150Turnover: €90 billionEmployees: 171 thousandNumber of ships >1000 GT: 10.550 shipsTotal deadweight tons (dwt): 368 millionTotal estimated fuel oil consumption 100 million tons/year savings potential in the Nordic

Region as being a minimum of 3million tons of fuel and 9 milliontons of CO2 by using the mostadvanced technology availabletoday;

the Marorka Maren energymanagement system and MarorkaPortal fleet management system.

tons/year

The largest ship owning countries (fleet under control) in Europe are:

Greece (3,041 ships) Germany (2,942 ships) Norway (1,424 ships) Denmark (684 ships) UK (652 ships) Netherlands (620 ships)

STATUS IN THE NORDIC REGIONSHIPPING INDUSTRI Combating Emissions and Fuel Consumption

Through Modern Science.

Owners in Europe are taking the first steps in the direction of more energy efficient ships both regarding design improvements and implementation of energy management systems.

The economic setback has resulted in less global transport of goods which is anticipated to be stagnant for some time.

Demand for industrial products, construction components, raw material and oil has decreased, resulting in deteriorating future outlook for ship owners.

Charter rates and contracts are expected to stay low in the near future.

Extreme fluctuations in oil prices in the last 2

Today some shipping companies are working with overall goals of energy efficiency improvements of 15% as a target for next 3-5 years.

Several internal and external factors are relevant and current today, which are of significance for the industry:

Extreme fluctuations in oil prices in the last 2 years; prices expected to continue to climb after sharp decline late 2008/early 2009.

Concern for supply of crude oil as a limited natural resource, indicating high oil prices in the future.

Emissions from ships may grow 150-250 percent compared with 2007 levels by 2050 according to researchers.

Anticipated environmental legislation following UN Climate Change Conference (COP15).

Tax breaks, public funding and other benefits for ship owners investing in energy efficiency projects (R&D and ship equipment) will increase in the near future.

Current and proposed taxation schemes on carbon dioxide emissions.

The primary objective of Marorka energy management projects is to optimize the use of fuel, that is, to maximize profits and minimize environmental effect by more effective use of fuel.– Marorka energy management program is based on systematic

methods and tools designed to improve the energy efficiency of a ship

methods and tools designed to improve the energy efficiency of a ship or a entire fleet and thereby reduce cost.

– Marorka energy management program helps the shipping industry to comply with expected IMO MEPC 59/INF.10 rules, that requires international and costal shipping, to reduce energy consumption per gross-tonnage by 20 percent, based on 1990 usage, by the year 2015.

– Marorka energy management program will be an integral part of the overall corporate strategy to continually drive down the unit cost of transported cargo.
