WIN Job Centers are located throughout the state and provide employment and training services for both job seeker and businesses.

COMPUTER TRAINING

Basics of Computers This course provides an introduction to computers and computing. Topics will include purchasing a computer, using hardware/software applications (including word processors and the Internet) and replacing basic components of a computer

Microsoft Excel (Beginning) Learn to make and use spreadsheets that can help organize information and save time. Spreadsheets can help organize information, like alphabetizing a list of names or other text. Also use a spreadsheet for calculating, such as totaling a column of numbers or generating a more sophisticated formula to calculate average or interest on a loan.

Microsoft Word (Beginning) Learn to create impressive looking documents. Become skilled at selecting text, using templates, adjusting margins, changing fonts, using the spell and grammar checker, saving documents and printing documents

Microsoft Excel (Advanced)This class is a varied collection of Excel skills. Topics include, but are not limited to, naming cells, logical functions and lookup functions, linking workbooks, data validation, protection and helpful keyboard shortcuts. Prerequisite: Excel experience

Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft PowerPoint provides users with an interface to design multimedia slides to be displayed on a projection system or personal computer. Use PowerPoint to incorporate graphics, images, sounds, videos, text and charts into your presentation that will impress your audience.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRAINING

Foundations of Computer and Digital LiteracyParticipants will identify different types of electronic communication/collaboration and how they work, be able to use word-processing tools to automate processes such as document review, security and collaboration, and be able to sort data, manipulate data using formulas and functions to create simple charts. Participants will work towards an IC3 certification.

CompTIA CertificationsSystem Maintenance This class teaches how to fix and troubleshoot computers, smart phones, tablets and small networks to obtain the CompTIA A+ certification. Prerequisites: Preferred IC3 or verified work experience in IT.

CISCO CertificationThe CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum is a gateway to entry-level networking jobs and IT careers. The curriculum consists of four 70-hour courses: Introduction to Networks, Routing and Switching Essentials, Scaling Networks, and Connecting Networks. The first two courses prepare you for the Cisco CCENT certification exam or to study CCNA Security. All four courses are recommended before taking the Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam.

Customer Service Classes This course prepares individuals with the skills needed when providing customer service. Based on ‘The Telephone Doctor’ series, the curriculum was devised and endorsed by local call centers. Attendees must be at least 18 years of age, have a Bronze or higher CRC and GED or HS diploma. Both day and evening classes are available upon request.

ServSafe Food Manager CertificationGain knowledge and training in food safety. Course topics include sanitation and the flow of food through the operation.

The $150 registration fee includes the cost of the textbook and processing the exam. It is important that fees be paid and book received two weeks prior to the seminar. Class size is limited and registration will be taken on a first-come, first-paid basis.

OSHA Construction 10-hour certification

The OSHA Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces in the construction industry. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certification cards. Classes held at the Workforce Development Center Instructor: Stanley Bishop, OSHA Outreach Trainer.

OSHA General Industry 10-hour certification

This course is designed for general industry workers, construction workers, foremen, job supervisors and anyone involved in the general or construction industries. Topics include general safety and health, electrical, fall protection, PPE, etc. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certification cards. Classes held at the Workforce Development Center. Instructor: Stanley Bishop, OSHA Outreach Trainer.

Course for both General Industry and Construction are available. These courses are designed for general industry workers, construction workers, foremen, job supervisors and anyone involved in the general or construction industries. Forklift Operation training programs Developed in conjunction with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) Code of Federal Regulations 1910.178 which applies to Powered Industrial Trucks. The goals are to help reduce potential for lift truck accidents, reduce the potential for damage to the equipment and product and to help companies be in compliance with federal and state regulations. Training includes instruction on basic safety, forklift operation, loading and unloading trailers, fueling forklifts and special units. Students will demonstrate skills learned by driving the forklift and completing a written test before receiving certification.

Commercial Truck DrivingBefore enrolling, participants must have completed an MDOT physical, drug screen test, CDL permit and be 21 years old. The commercial truck driving class will be using the Delmar Tractor-Training Truck Driving Curriculum and covering MDOT compliance procedures, basic safety, hooking/unhooking trailers, pre/post operational equipment checks, maintaining service log, and properly filling out DVIR. At the end of the course, students will receive a JCJC certificate of completion and they will be prepared for the CDL road test. The cost for the non-credit commercial truck driving course is $650.

Heavy Equipment Operator TrainingThis course will include lecture, simulator training and hands-on training. Trainees will learn the basic operation of excavators and dozers from the ground up with a strong emphasis on safety. Upon successful completion of this course students will receive a certificate from Workforce Development and a National Center for Construction Education and Research transcript.

Basic Welding This 40-hour course will focus on the basic fundamentals of welding safety and the basics of stick and flux core arc welding and cutting technology. This class will not qualify the student to become a certified welder, but it is the first step and will prepare the student to begin a career in the welding field. All students will receive a certificate of completion after they have completed the course.

Pipefitting The Pipefitting Technology program is designed to prepare students for entry–level positions within the commercial/industrial manufacturing industry. The Pipefitting program will prepare Students for a career in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of piping systems. Upon completion students will possess the entry-level skills necessary to enter the workforce based upon the National Center for Construction Education and Research competencies.

General Residential ConstructionThe General Residential Construction classes use the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum. Courses offered include: NCCER Core Curriculum which is a prerequisite to all other Level 1 craft curriculum, Carpentry-Level 1, Electrical-Level 1 and Plumbing-Level 1. Learn basic safety, tools, terminology, and skills that will prepare you for an entry level career in the construction industry. Students who successfully complete the courses will receive a nationally recognized NCCER Core card and transcript with all craft modules completed.

MillwrightSince its humble beginnings in the construction of wood mills, the Millwright trade has expanded to include work in metal and machinery of ever-increasing technology and precision. Millwrights install, align, and troubleshoot machinery in factories, power plants (particularly the precision machinery required in nuclear power plants), and other industrial sites. They install conveyor systems, connect machinery to power supplies and piping, direct hoisting and setting of machines, and adjust the moving and stationary parts of machines to certain specifications. Millwrights must be extremely skilled at mathematics and interpreting blueprints and specifications to set machines at perfect measurements, sometimes working with clearances no bigger than thousandths of an inch. The class will include NCCER Core and Level 1, which includes:

This course is designed to provide safe, qualified entry-level millwrights and maintenance personnel for the companies in the JCJC District.

Manufacturing Skills Basic TrainingThe Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification (MSBC) program is designed to prepare students desiring to have a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful. Through this program, students use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge, and receive nationally recognized credentials.This 96-hour class was developed to respond to core knowledge for the current and emerging industry sectors located within the Jones County Junior College District and through the State of Mississippi. The program includes three national credentials - 10-hour OSHA, the American Heart Association’s CPR and the Career Readiness Certificate.Additional modules include basic computer, employability skills, blue print reading, precision measurement, basic math, metric, forklift operation, lean manufacturing, 5S, value stream mapping and Statistical Process Control.

Lean ManufacturingThe Lean Manufacturing Course at Jones County Junior College helps companies simplify and organize its working environment so that waste can be reduced and its employees, equipment and workspace is responsive to the things that are needed right now. According to the Mississippi Extension Process Lean Network, Lean Manufacturing is a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste (non-value-added activities) through continuous improvement by flowing the product at the pull of the customer in pursuit of perfection. With a combination of classroom lecture and simulation using the Tube Factory individuals can see how improving the work process can help companies improve the bottom line.

Operation Jumpstart: First StepEntrepreneurs have the opportunity to realize their dreams of small business ownership with the help of Jones County Junior College’s, “Operation JumpStart.” This is a 6-week nationally-recognized, highly successful training model delivered to individuals who want to start or expand a small business. The Operation JumpStart: First Step curriculum teaches participants essential small business planning and preparation

skills with practical hands-on training from experts in the field. “By offering hands-on training and business advice from our business sponsors and business leaders, participants can be more successful. They get to see how the process works instead of us telling them what they need to do to start a business.” said Deborah Smith, JCJC Operation Jumpstart Instructor.

Certified Volunteer FirefighterThe Fire Service classes that are presented are approved courses for certification through the Mississippi State Fire Academy and meet or exceed the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association. The classes currently offered are Mississippi Certified Volunteer Firefighter I Module 1&2 Mississippi Certified Volunteer Firefighter II Module 1&2,, Hazardous Materials NFPA 472 Awareness/Operations Module 1&2 (both IFSAC and non IFSAC), Mississippi Volunteer Fire Officer I & II. From the entry level firefighter you will experience the training and education necessary to become a proficient volunteer firefighter that often leads an individual to become a career firefighter. Students successfully completing the classes will be awarded certifications through the Mississippi State Fire Academy.Modern Multi-Skill Manufacturing (M3) CredentialThe Modern Multi-Skill Manufacturing (M3) Credential provides a series of training modules designed to help individuals gain knowledge and skills needed for basic manufacturing jobs. The M3 credential was developed with industrial workers in mind. It is delivered in several formats. The primary delivery technique is e-learning developed by Amatrol with a hands-on lab component assessed by qualified personnel. The assessment can be done by an assigned instructor or supervisor. Some modules are designed for traditional classroom and lab training that can be delivered locally if desired. Modules include basic safety, computer fundamentals, measurement tools, hand and power tools, blueprint reading and quality.

Life Support Certification CoursesHeartsaver® First Aid CPR AEDA video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrive. Skills covered in this course include first aid; choking relief in adults, children, and infants; and sudden cardiac arrest management in adults, children, and infants. 5 Contact Hours.

BLS – Healthcare ProviderThe BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam. 4 Contact Hours.

ACLSThis advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Students work with an AHA ACLS Instructor to complete BLS and ALS skills and testing. Students also complete a written exam. 16 Contact Hours for New Certification, 8 Contact Hours for Renewal.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)This course uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. Students

work with an AHA PALS instructor to complete BLS and ALS skills and testing in pediatric emergencies. Students also complete a written exam. 16 Contact Hours for New Certification, 8 Contact Hours for Renewal.

Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)16 hour course for emergency medical responders, EMTs, Paramedics, nurses, physician assistants and physicians. This course is offered at Basic, Advanced or Combined provider levels. Students will study and manage traumatic emergencies related to all age ranges of patients through working with an NAEMT certified instructor. Students will also complete a written exam. 16 Contact Hours for Initial Certification, 8 Hours for Renewal. The PHTLS refresher course is only available for providers that have completed a PHTLS course in the last four years.

Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)The course emphasizes the use of scene size-up, history, interactive group discussion on potential treatment strategies, and physical exam to systematically rule out and consider possibilities and probabilities in treating patients’ medical crises. The course offers an initial assessment-based approach that progresses to a diagnostic-based approach to quickly develop the best treatment plan. AMLS is a sixteen-hour, two-day program that consists of interactive lectures, teaching and evaluation stations. The interactive/case based lectures include the following topics: altered mental status and neurologic disorders, respiratory dysfunction, shock, chest discomfort, endocrine, metabolic and environmental disorders, abdominal discomfort, infectious disease, and toxicologic emergencies, hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction. 16 Contact Hours.

Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC)This course focuses on the care of sick and injured children, addressing a full spectrum of

emergency illnesses, injuries and scenarios that an EMS practitioner might encounter. The course provides an in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of the most common pediatric emergency issues, and stresses critical thinking skills to help practitioners make the best decisions for their patients. Topics include: understanding kids; airway, breathing and oxygenation; cardiac emergencies; child abuse and neglect; common medical emergencies; the importance of family; hypo perfusion and shock; newborn resuscitation; pediatric trauma; and special health care needs. 16 Contact Hours.

Advanced Stroke Life SupportThe Advanced Stroke Life Support Course was developed by experts in stroke, emergency medicine, prehospital care, and nursing education. This course provides a unique neurologic assessment tool-the MEND exam-ideal for both prehospital and hospital use and satisfies the educational requirements for Joint Commission-certified stroke centers. Under the guidance of a certified instructor, students will learn about the most current treatment modalities in acute stroke care. 8 Contact Hours.

MS EMS Refresher CourseThe Mississippi EMS refresher course was developed to fulfill the mandatory core content of the NCCP recertification model currently used by National Registry. It is currently the only state refresher course recognized by NREMT to fulfill these mandatory requirements in a single course. This new format allows all levels of providers to interact in a comprehensive four day format. All levels attend day one and day two, EMTs and Paramedics attend day three, and paramedics attend day four. Any non-required days may be used as additional CEU’s. The course is set up in the format 9-9.5 hour days. All days are taught by Nationally Registered Paramedic Instructors.
