It was a wonderful February at Valladolid. On the second we served some very important people on clergy night. To see so many who have given their lives to Christ in our hall was a very special honor. Thank you to PGK Brian Magrane chairman of the event and PGK Michael Phelps head chef for the event. It was a wonderful evening. All the servers were so gracious and very happy to be there, I was lucky to be one of them. The Icon of Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians was also present and brought awareness of how blessed we are to have our freedom of religion. I could never imagine not being allowed to attend mass or pray freely. The Patriots games at the council were attended well all year long here at the lower hall. Will Phelps does such a great job working the games. He and everyone who attended the Super Bowl party were happy to see the Patriots win their 6th title. The championship evening was so well done just like the food prepared that evening. The Phelps family worked so hard and I would like to thank them and all the members who contributed for a great evening win or no win the council should have won a trophy Seeing the hard work preparing for the Beach
party I see how our council is so special and how humbled I am to be the Grand Knight . All the fun of the evening I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Thank you to everyone who made this a successful event. We hosted the Icon for Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians for 2 weeks. I was at Clergy Night and 5 masses were celebrated at St. Pius. St. Joseph’s and Holy Family parish. Thank you also to our Chancellor Matt Harrington for taking it to Sacred Heart School in Kingston,Ma. It was visited by over 1550 persons. Thank you all for helping. As we look forward to March we also look forward to the Lenten Season. This a time of fasting, Prayer and to give alms. I ask all brothers to pray for persecuted Christians and those children who lost their lives to abortion during the season. We will Praying a Rosary every Friday night at the council conference room on the Fridays of Lent at 7pm. I invite all brothers to this special event lead by PGK Larry Donahue. Please join us during bingo. Just 1 hour of your time will aid this most charitable program. Vivat Jesus! Fraternally yours, Fausto H. Cabrera Jr.

The Chatterbox - MARCH 2019 Irish heritage, culture, and history will be celebrated on March 17th. Irish or not we all wear the green, and remember, the most important part of St. Patrick’s Day is not just the stout but the fun of listening to music, doing a little thumping, and having some reeling moments throughout the day. St. Pat’s Day is not only one day of celebrating, but it is for 31 days of pure enjoyment to bring March in and to see March leave. Therefore, the night before March 17 will be Valladolid Council #70 annual Irish Night on Saturday of March 16. This festive event will have the traditional Irish Step Dancers entertainment. A delicious popular Irish meal will be presented with Irish Soda Bread, Corned Beef and Cabbage along with Potatoes and Carrots plus dessert. Tickets are on sale from either PGK Salvy Tavernese or PGK William Magarian. Master of Ceremony PGK Charlie Rowe will welcome all and will announce the 2019 Irish Man/Couple of the Year. Last year this function was sold out. Don’t delay to order your ticket or book a table. Frist annual Corn Hole Tournament will start off on March 2. Early sign-ups will be available at $40.00 a team. Day of the tournament registration will be $50.00 per team beginning at 3:00 PM at the door. The games will begin exactly at 5:00 PM. Chancellor Matt Harrington expects a large turnout which will indicate some competitive matches. A cash bar and kitchen will be open. Many thanks to PGK Michael Phelps and his committee that included his wife Peggy, his daughter Teri Thompson, and his son Will Phelps, along with Peter Chasse, Rick Chasse, and GK Fausto Cabrera for a terrific job organizing a great Super Bowl Sunday Party. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. This was a great Super Bowl Party for all who came to watch the game and to enjoy a delicious grilled steak meal, appetizers, and other servings. This was definitely the place for “Quality Quantity, and Price”. Our beloved New England Patriots won Super Bowl in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017, and now in 2019. They appeared in nine Super Bowls in the last 18 seasons. The Pat’s won 33 percent of the Super Bowls since 2001. What a run, and can this continue for a while more? It is premature to think about the 2020 Super Bowl. With Brady ready to play for another season along with Gronk, Edelmann and the rest of the players, we could have another shot at it. What a year and what a great Valladolid Super Bowl Party. “We are still here” on every Thursday at Bingo. This is an opportunity to interact with Brother Knights and with the Beano players. The GK welcomes any member to join the Knights of Charity. The annual Free Throw Basketball Tournament was on January 26 at the Lynn Boys & Girls Club. Chairman DGK Robert MacIsaac organized
the program along with GK Fausto Cabrera and with assistance from Sarah MacIsaac, Peter MacIsaac, FS Michael Scarlata, PGK Charlie Rowe, Chris Rowe, Tom Donato, and PGK Salvy Tavernese. This was a fun tournament. Many youngsters enjoyed the time shooting basketballs and each received a “Participation Certificate”. The event winner in each division moved onto the Districts level competing against other state Council winners. The winners will then move into the state and national contest. This was a terrific event as Brother Knights developed a community spirit for the children of Lynn. Clergy Night was also successful function. Chairman PGK Brian Magrane organized this event as he welcomed local parish Priests, Deacons, and Nuns who perform their religious duties regularly each day serving the Lynn community. The kitchen crew included PGK Michael Phelps, Peggy Phelps, and PGK Chris Kennedy. The butler team members were PGK Larry Donahue, DGK Robert MacIsaac, FS Michael Scarlata, PGK Salvy Tavernese, and our GK Fausto Cabrera. March Madness games begin on March 19th. Plenty of basketball is on tab in March before the Red Sox start the season in Seattle on March 28th, and the home opener is on April 9th against Toronto. Boston will travel to London Stadium on June 29th and 30th to play the Yankees. That could be called the Donnybrook Games over the pond. The All-Star Game is on July 9 in Progressive Field in Cleveland. Trivia – What Red Sox player thought Cleveland was on the ocean? Spotted doing some outside chores at Valladolid was Chancellor Matt Harrington and GK Fausto Cabrera on Super Bowl Sunday. Attending the Holy Hour “Novena for Life” MASS at Sacred Heart Church were FDD/PGK Donald Collins, Paul Feilteau, DGK Robert MacIsaac, PGK Larry Donahue, Patrice Machado, Council Chaplain Godfrey Musabe, Fr. Brian Flynn, Deacon Richard Field and Pro-Life Chairman Michael Ford along with the Fourth Degree Honor Guard that included GK Fausto Cabrera, Faithful Navigator Mark Natti, and PFN/PGK Thomas Weisner. Also attending was the Lynn Catholic Collaborative. The Spot Light Review: Nice to see a good compliment of Board of Directors recently elected. Being on the Board requires a diligent effort to keep the facility and grounds updated. Each Board of Director will have a commitment with the VBA while maintaining a faithful bond with Council #70. This is a dual relationship. Being elected to the VBA is not a political move, but a more responsible move as well as a more responsible move toward Council 70. In other words, VBA Board members now have a responsible trust – attending VBA obligations and supporting the Council’s exciting functions. As Brother Knights we at times face challenges. They may vary. Our unique abilities to work together can overcome the challenges, so we can remain the same as Brother Knights and move forward. Next month’s function will be Luau Night on April 27. So begin to get ready to do some fancy swaying and dancing. “May You Have Love That Never Ends, Lots of Money and Lots of Friends. May Health be Yours in Whatever You do and Life’s Many Blessing onto You.” Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

300 Club Final Drawing &
Banquet It’s hard to believe another year
has gone by. Preparations are under way for our final drawing of this season. As a show of appreciation for making this year a great success Grand Knight Tito Cabrera would like to invite you to attend the evening of Monday May 7, 2018 at 6:00 PM, for dinner at the council home, 177 Lynnfield St. with the drawing to follow immediately after.
Fraternally, PGK Mike Phelps 300 Club Chairman
Continued from page 2 . Why is this ritual we are called upon to perform so important? First and foremost, it is an act of reverence and respect for a creature of God, for it is He who made us all. It is a fulfillment for us, the deceased member’s broth-er knights, of our commitment to our religious dictum to Love one another as He has loved us. This is so because each and every one of us are made in the image and likeness of the Lord. And through His teachings, His Son, Jesus instructed us to remember that He loves every one of us equally and without exception, and we are similarly instructed to do so. Is this a difficult concept for all of us to get our heads around? Maybe. It certainly is easy to understand the words and instructions of love that Christ has given us, but there also is no doubt that sometimes it is hard for we so -imperfect individuals to complete in action. But we must try, for we are instructed by Him to do so. As such, each of us deserves to be sent onward, we trust, to the next life with the Lord with dignity, recognition, respect and affection. We trust it helps the departed brother. We trust it helps heal the family’s loss. We hope it helps us – and builds us, too.
Respectfully, PGK Brian P. Magrane

ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED
VALLADOLID COUNCIL SERVES AT MY BROTHERS TABLE Once again, members of Valladolid Council No. 70, Knights of Columbus had the privilege to continue our commitment of help-ing those of our brethren who are in daily need of assistance in so many different ways. On Monday, April 16, led by Grand Knight Tito Cabrera, our council invested itself in an evening of service at my Brothers Table in downtown Lynn. So, while so many people give lip service only to helping the least of our Lord’s children, members of the Valladolid family and their friends stepped forward to serve a hot meal to some of the city’s most needy citizens. These good people were there to offer a word of comfort and friendship, to clean the tables and wash the dishes and pass out smiles by the dozens. And, importantly, each month our council makes a modest monthly donation to help support the Table’s continuing efforts in that regard. Charity, it is often said, begins at home. And it also is often said that we knights know a thing or two about charity: we know it starts with our Valladolid members and families and friends, some of whom are noted below. Those who came to serve at My Brothers Table on April 16:
Tuesday, May 22 will be our next evening of service at My Brothers Table. Contact Brian Magrane for more info and how to sign up to help. He can be reached at: [email protected] or by call or text at 781-864-8924. Please Remember: My Brothers Table receives no financial assistance from any city, state or federal source. They are entirely dependent on generous contributions from friends and supporters like the Knights of Columbus. And in addition to the six times a year that your council organizes people-power to serve at The Table, we also donate over a thousand dollars each year to support their efforts. That’s what our Grand Knight Tito calls “Good Work doing Good Works”, brother knights! Respectfully, PGK Brian Magrane
