This year the Jostens North Texas Summer Journalism Workshop is going virtual! Our format might be changing, but our goals are still the same. We want everyone to leave our workshop prepared to create their best book yet This workshop will make sure you are on track to start the 2021 school year out with a strong theme in place and a plan to make a meaningful book for all students.

The workshop will be split into a series

of online sessions taught by the best

yearbook instructors in the country. We will

send out a detailed schedule in advance

so that you and your staff members

can choose the sessions you would

like to attend. We will leave plenty of

time for you to work and collaborate as

well. Each school attending will

have an instructor assigned to them

that will be available for meetings and to provide crucial

feedback.

Staff members in the YEARBOOK TRACK will work together virtually as a team to brainstorm the theme, coverage and content with hands-on time to implement those ideas and receive feedback. Emphasis will be placed on creating a meaningful book for the student body, as well as getting everything in place for an easier start to the school year. They will leave with cover, endsheets, title/parting pages, opening/closing spreads, dividers and graphics to strengthen the theme’s verbal-visual impact and capture the year.

The YEARBOOK ADVISER TRACK covers the presentations in yearbook sessions but without hands-on work time. The class will look at a range of topics from deadline management to staff motivation, as well as Jostens new products and services. The track runs concurrently to other classes, and is perfect for advisers attending without students. Those wishing to work directly with their staffs on the concept and creation of their book should enroll in the same yearbook track as their staff, not the Adviser Track.

Participants in the NEWSPAPER TRACK will develop reporting, interviewing and writing skills in news, features, editorials and sports. Advanced staffers will refine journalistic skills, develop leadership and editing skills and establish the coverage for next year's paper.

The DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY TRACK develops photographers’ artistic and technical skills through lectures and shooting assignments for hands-on experience. Photos will be shared with instructors for immediate critique.

Please be on time, there are a limited number of sessions, and missed appointments will be rescheduled only as time allows.
