The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research invites you to a special presentation about the processes that can lead families to the Janeway’s Autism Clinic, starting with perinatal assessment. Phil Murphy is a Data Consultant/Analyst with the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Perinatal Program (NLPPP) and a Professional Associate (Memorial University) providing support services to the staff and students of the Disciplines of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics. For the past eight years, he has been responsible for the Provincial Perinatal Surveillance Program (Delivery and Newborn Database) and the Follow-Up Clinic Database (for high risk babies) providing clinical decision and research support to perinatal health stakeholders. Phil is the co-chair of the Perinatal Information Management Committee (PIMC) and recently resigned his position of co-chair of the Canadian Perinatal Database Committee (CPDC) where he served five years. He also served as facilitator to implement a Newfoundland and Labrador Congenital Anomalies Surveillance System (NLCASS) as supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). Phil recently was invited to be the province’s representative on PHAC’s Canadian Perinatal Surveillance System (CPSS)-Expert Advisory Committee. Phil’s talk is open to the public and will be of particular interest to people with autism and their families/ caregivers as well as to the research community. NLCAHR’s Research Exchange Group on Autism meets monthly to discuss research, review funding opportunities and collaborate on research projects. The group also provides a forum where students, researchers, policy makers and the general public can meet to discuss issues related to autism. Attendance is free and all are welcome. The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research (NLCAHR) invites you to a special presentation taking place at 10:30am on January 18 2013 at the Elaine Dobbin Centre. Christina Dove has a BSc (psychology), MSc in Medicine (Neuroscience), Masters in Art Therapy and currently working on a PhD in Community Medicine. She is a neurodevelopmental researcher at Memorial conducting research in the areas of vision, attention, learning and memory. She is also a sensory art therapist and has created the sensory art therapy program, offered at the Autism Society of NL, which combines neurodevelopmental research, visual therapy and expressive art therapy. She will be speaking about her research as it relates to autism spectrum disorders. This event is open to the public and will be of particular interest to people with autism and their families/ caregivers as well as to the research community.
