Ask God to speak to you as you read and reflect. Come, O thou Traveler unknown, Whom still I hold, but cannot see! My company before is gone, And I am left alone with Thee; With Thee all night I mean to stay, And wrestle till the break of day. I need not tell Thee who I am, My misery and sin declare; Thyself hast called me by my name, Look on Thy hands, and read it there; But who, I ask Thee, who art Thou? Tell me Thy name, and tell me now. In vain Thou strugglest to get free, I never will unloose my hold! Art Thou the Man that died for me? The secret of Thy love unfold; Wrestling, I will not let Thee go, Till I Thy name, Thy nature know. Wilt Thou not yet to me reveal Thy new, unutterable Name? Tell me, I still beseech Thee, tell; To know it now resolved I am; Wrestling, I will not let Thee go, Till I Thy Name, Thy nature know. ’Tis all in vain to hold Thy tongue Or touch the hollow of my thigh; Though every sinew be unstrung, Out of my arms Thou shalt not fly; Wrestling I will not let Thee go Till I Thy name, Thy nature know. What though my shrinking flesh complain, And murmur to contend so long? I rise superior to my pain, When I am weak, then I am strong And when my all of strength shall fail, I shall with the God-man prevail. My strength is gone, my nature dies, I sink beneath Thy weighty hand, Faint to revive, and fall to rise; I fall, and yet by faith I stand; I stand and will not let Thee go Till I Thy Name, Thy nature know. Yield to me now, for I am weak, But confident in self-despair; Speak to my heart, in blessings speak, Be conquered by my instant prayer; Speak, or Thou never hence shalt move, And tell me if Thy Name is Love. ’Tis Love! ’tis Love! Thou diedst for me! I hear Thy whisper in my heart; The morning breaks, the shadows flee, Pure, universal love Thou art; To me, to all, Thy bowels move; Thy nature and Thy Name is Love. My prayer hath power with God; the grace Unspeakable I now receive; Through faith I see Thee face to face, I see Thee face to face, and live! In vain I have not wept and strove; Thy nature and Thy Name is Love. I know Thee, Savior, who Thou art. Jesus, the feeble sinner’s friend; Nor wilt Thou with the night depart. But stay and love me to the end, Thy mercies never shall remove; Thy nature and Thy Name is Love. The Sun of righteousness on me Hath rose with healing in His wings, Withered my nature’s strength; from Thee Pastor’s article cont. page 2

Here we are, the first newsletter of 2018! We

are off to a great start! The kids have begun a year long

journey through the Bible. They are seeing the Bible

through hands-on experiments, games, and song. Three

fifth graders finished up a Worship study; 2 of them

travelled to Tulia to visit Kenneth Wyatt’s Art Studio, and

hymnals were given in recognition of their hard work. We

have recognized our acolytes. Goodbyes and thanks

were said to our retiring acolytes, congrats and thanks

were said to our returning acolytes, and welcome to the

team were said to our new acolytes. Third graders

received Bibles and will begin Bible class tonight to learn

how to use their new Bibles, and how God speaks to us

through its pages. Confirmation is in full swing, God is

beginning great things in our young people.

As we look forward, the kids in our ministry

have many exciting activities and lessons waiting for

them. Here are dates you need to put on your calendar

Youth News—Charlie Keys, Youth Minister—FUMC Canyon Hello Church Family,

I am very excited to share with you that The

Uprising Youth Ministry will be returning to Service

Over Self in Memphis, TN for the third year in a row

this summer. If you do not know Service Over Self

(SOS) is a fantastic mission organization that was

launched 30 years ago by Christ United Methodist

Church in Memphis. SOS primarily focuses on helping

make homes safer, dryer, and warmer in underserved

neighborhoods around the city. But what I love about

SOS is that the organization not only focusing on the

condition of the person’s home, they are equally if not

more focused on the person’s salvation and life. SOS

does a wonderful job building relationships/friendships

with the homeowners. These friendships give the SOS

staff and our teams the opportunity to share the gospel

as well as biblical truths for life with the homeowners.

SOS also does a wonderful job training our students to

have a “potluck attitude”, which means they come to

SOS expecting to receive just as much as they give.

This year we will be taking four teams to SOS, which is

the largest group we’ve ever had. Our group will

consist of 16 students and 8 adult leaders. Below are a

few ways you can help support our mission trip to

Memphis, TN.

Pray for our team and our trip. You can find out more

about SOS and the work we will be doing at

www.sosmemphis.org.

Support our team financially. The trip will cost each

student/adult leader $465. We will be hosting two

fundraisers to help with expenses.

Envelope Wall Fundraiser – This fundraiser will take

place the entire month of February and will help with

mission expenses such as van rentals, gas, and

scholarships. We will have envelope walls with varying

dollar amounts in the narthex and fellowship hall. If you

would like to participate, you simply pick the envelope

with the dollar amount you would like to provide, place

your cash or check inside, and return the envelope to

the youth office.

Breakfast Burrito Fundraiser Sunday April 15 – This

is by far our most popular and successful fundraiser.

Our students will be selling burritos by donation only

before and after all three services on April 15. Plan on

coming to church hungry!

Thank You Notes My soul its life and succor brings; My help is all laid up above;

Thy nature and Thy Name is Love.

Contented now upon my thigh I halt, till life’s short journey end; All helplessness, all weakness I On Thee alone for strength depend; Nor have I power from Thee to move:

Thy nature, and Thy name is Love.

Lame as I am, I take the prey, Hell, earth, and sin, with ease o’ercome; I leap for joy, pursue my way, And as a bounding hart fly home, Through all eternity to prove

Thy nature and Thy Name is Love.

Creation Care Moment by Becky Harp Hey Church, do you know we have a KB cardboard recycling bin at our church? It is at the west end of the property next to the white maintenance building. You can't miss it, it is the BIG GREEN

BIN. Flatten your clean cardboard boxes and slide them in. We all can do our part in recycling and taking

care of the earth. God thanks you.

Running low on those great pecans? UMW still has pecans for you to buy. They are heart healthy! Contact Becky Harp or any UMW Leadership

Team member.

Missionary Conferences

of the United Methodist Church

United Methodist Women

2018 Geographical Study

Please join us for a “Saturday School”

presentation of the Missionary Conferences study.

Did you know there are three conferences designated

as Missionary Conference in the United Methodist

Church? Red Bird Missionary Conference in

Kentucky, the Oklahoma Indian Missionary

Conference, and the Alaska Conference of the

United Methodist Church each have exciting and

unique histories and areas of mission. Learning more

about these conferences gives us a better

understanding of “mission” through United Methodist

Women, as well as informing us about the many

ministries that are enabled through our pledges and

Mission Giving. Contact Becky Harp for more

information concerning registration or any questions

you might have—Becky Harp (Canyon Unit President)

The WT Wesley Foundation is getting ready for

the Wild Wesley Hoedown once again. This is

one of our biggest annual fundraisers and we

would love for you to join us for a night of fun- live

music by Young Country and great food- followed

by lots of dancing. Tickets are $25 each or $150

for a table of 8 (this saves them $50). This year

the Wild Wesley Hoedown will be in the WTAMU

Virgil Henson Activity Center Ballroom, Saturday

March 3rd, 2018 at 7pm. Tickets will be on sale

starting February 11th. If you have any questions

please email [email protected] or call 806-655
