• Juan Manuel Márquez Méndez (born August 23, 1973 in Mexico City) is a Mexican professional boxer.1 is a free agent as his contract with Oscar de la Hoya expired in early 2011 and has its promoter Marquez Boxing Promotions.

• He made his professional boxing debut at age 19 on May 29, 1993 , and lost his first bout via disqualification to Javier Duran. Márquez remained undefeated for six years as a record of 29-1 that included a win against future champion Agapito Sanchez, and former champions in July Gervacio , and Alfred Kotey . In 1997 , Márquez won the NABO Featherweight title (North American Boxing Organization) , which he defended seven times. During this time , it was known as the best fighter " without a world title " . Mandatory challenger Marquez was the WBO featherweight Naseem Hamed for 22 consecutive months, however, the WBO allowed Hamed to schedule other fights instead of facing Marquez.

• Márquez earned his first bout for a world title on September 11, 1999 , when he lost a controversial decision to then-unbeaten WBA featherweight Freddie Norwood . Marquez was the aggressor for most of the fight, but was knocked down in the second assault . In the eighth, Norwood glove touched the canvas after an exchange , however , was not available for Marquez. In the ninth, Marquez knocked him down after an exchange of blows. HBO said that Norwood had connected 73 of 290 punches thrown , Marquez 89 of 444 .

• The November 20, 1999 , Márquez faced with Remigio Molina , and defeated him in eight rounds. In 2000 , he defeated former champion Daniel Jimenez , and five fights later, he defeated future champion Robbie Peden in ten rounds , earning the title NABF featherweight (North American Boxing Federation) .

• Juan Manuel " Dinamita" Márquez received his second bout for a world title on January 2, 2003 , when he defeated five-time featherweight champion Manuel Medina , and won the vacant IBF featherweight . In the second assault , Marquez connected with a three-punch combination that floored Medina . The fight was stopped in the seventh assault after Marquez knocked Medina for the second time .

Background• Juan Manuel Marquez was born in Iztacalco, in Mexico City. He is the son of

Rafael Marquez Enriquez (professional boxer) and Maria de la Luz Mendez. It has 7 brothers, [citation needed] his brother Rafael Marquez is also a professional boxer and former world champion at bantamweight and featherweight. At the age of 8 years Juan Manuel connected with the sport of fists after his father's teachings. His first battles were with his older sister Carmen, who most of the time he won.

• At 17 he made his debut against Javier Duran in Mexico, fight in which he lost by disqualification. "Dynamite" managed to find a balance between study and sport: in addition to his career as an athlete, he graduated as a technician in Accounting. He is married to Erika, who has three sons: Aldo Manuel, Juan Emilio and Alison Natalia.
