Songs of the Children
The 5th & 6th Grade students are continuing on their campaign
against violence and social injustice with a March and meeting with
Philadelphia’s new police commissioner Ramsey and Mayor Kenney
on March 18. Approximately 200 students are expected to partici-
pate and walk in silence with drums from
the Art Museum to City Hall. The silent
march was inspired by the 1917 silent pro-
test led by W.E. B. Dubois and the NAACP
against lynching and anti-black violence.
Beginning February 10, the students will
start visiting schools to talk about their
campaign and encourage other students to join their movement by
participating in their march or writing poetry. They are also planning
a poetry event May 6 and will be launching a website:
songsofthechildren.com that will feature student’s poetry and
writings that support their movement.
Green Schools Program
Jubilee’s recycling project was selected to participate in the Recy-clebank Green Schools Program. This year, we chose to beautify the front of the school and garden area by repairing the front wall and walkway with the help students at the Workshop School. So far we’ve raised $500 you can help us raise even more by visiting Recy-clebank.com/greenschools and do-nating points to our project. We’ll get $1 for every 250 points we receive.
