RPM Agenda Introduction Review JISD and Departmental Visions Review RPM Protocol State Departmental goals Create a Rubric for Evaluating Journals RPM Protocol Instructional Walk Closure

IntroductionAt the start of each RPM each group was provide with PSAT statistics:

Using PSAT scores as a measure of college readiness (50 Critical Reading / 50 Math)

This information was used to provide our teachers with a point of reference of where our students are in their preparation for college.

Introduction Cont. Each group was asked to reflect on the college readiness stats throughout the RPM process.

A review of the JISD Vision was done by each of the Department Assistant Principals.

Goal 1 “To meet or exceed Texas Education Agency

standards on STAAR, improve from previous year, and prepare students for higher education and workforce readiness.”

The conclusion from each group was that Judson High School is not meeting the JISD Goals for College Readiness.

Journal Evaluation Rubric

After reviewing the Departmental Vision Statements, each RPM created a rubric to evaluate their student journals.

The focus of each group was to analyze their student’s work for evidence that the department vision and goals are being achieved.

Journal Rubric Cont. Mathematics ELA

Journal Evaluations

Journal EvaluationUsing the rubric each RPM group developed a list of Glows and Grows that were placed on Anchor Charts.

Glows & Grows Charts

Gallery WalkEach group within the RPM conducted a gallery walk of the Glows and Grows. While on the walk groups wrote down two clarifying questions that were then asked of each group.

Socratic SeminarAfter the gallery walk each group brought their anchor chart to the front and answered clarifying questions that were generated during the gallery walk.

After each round of questions the presenters were offered an opportunity to share anything that they felt was relevant to the group.

Socratic Style

Creating a Smart Goal After teachers reflected on their students’ work and reflected on their participation in the Socratic seminar, they created a departmental smart goal.

Science Smart Goal“Teachers will ask students at least 3 higher order thinking questions, and provide feedback, each unit through starters, exits, quizzes, and other assessments; in order to prepare students for college readiness.”

Social Studies Smart Goal

“The students will be able to complete a written assessment efficiently, as assessed by a rubric, within 45-50 minutes every unit; using historical facts, specific examples, and academic vocabulary to support their argument.”

Mathematics Smart Goal

“Students will reflect on 2-3 essential questions inserted at the start and end of each unit.”

ELAR Smart Goal“Teachers will provide feedback to students at least twice before March 30th, 2015.”
