Dear Parents, I am looking forward to working with you and your child to coordinate a
successful year in 6th grade World Cultures. Below is a list of classroom procedures, policies and curriculum, as well as contact information for reaching me.

CurriculumCourse Description
Human Geography & Cultures is a yearlong course that focuses on the distribution process and effects of human populations on the planet. Through the course of the year we will study population migration, culture, religion, language, political geography, economic development, industry, agriculture, and urban geography. Through the use of case studies and other real world examples, students will develop an understanding of how geography is important and what causes people to move from one place to another.

Classroom PoliciesGrading:
Tests/Major Projects = 40%Quizzes/Daily Grades = 50%Homework = 10%
Late/Make-up Work: If schoolwork is not turned in during class on the due date, a missing grade will be entered for the student. A missing assignment is the numerical equivalent of a 0. The student has 3 days to make-up work. There is a 10 point deduction per day for late work. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements (within 3 days) to make arrangements to attend tutoring to complete any missing assignments.
Tutoring is mandatory for any concept or missing assignment to be re-taught. An alternate assignment may be issued at the teacher’s discretion.
TutorialsTuesday 3:35-4:30 (Students must have a tutoring pass)
Please initial by each policy verifying that you read and have discussed with your child. Return this portion by Friday. (This signed slip will count as a homework grade)

Cell Phone Policy1. Cell phones must be OFF and PUT AWAY unless
given permission by teachers. 2. Cell phones will be confiscated if they are on and/or
out during class. Administration office will return phone, to parents, for a $15 fee. (Student Handbook pg. 35)
No Spinners Spinners WILL BE CONFISCATED and can be
collected by parent before school 7:30-7:55 or after school 3:35-4:00. (Spinners will be TRASHED after 5 days)
